Bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan!
Break the bacon up into smaller pieces!
Be sure to chop up lots of Onion and saute' them!
Before onions get too cooked at some tatters!
Be sure to chop up your tatters into small chunks!
Begin to smother your taters, stir ocassionally and put a lid on!
Be sure to stir often enough to not burn your taters!
Beans should be added when tatters are soft and almost done!
Beans are stired into the tatters and cook for a while longer fully cooked!
Be sure to season it with salt and pepper and maybe seasoning salt.
May not sound good but try it you just might like it!
Sombody tell Felicity we have a green bean thread!

Sounds like something I might like to try but I'd probably be the only one eating it from my family. They're not very adventurous.

This sounds very good to me, but my husband does not like green beans. I may fix it, and try to convince him to eat it anyway.

Sounds as if it would be a great dish along with that dressing and dumplings.
 "OH" we're not doing that for Christmas this year though, but I am going to fix this dish. If my southern friend MawMaw likes it, i'm sure I will.

I asked my hubby what he thought about us doing like ya'll and just baking a ham and have potato salad and other finger foods on the side. He thought it'd be a good idea too. :)
A preacher friend of ours and his wife will be coming over Christmas Day to fry a turkey....those are so good too.

"Gee" all this food talk is making me hungry. I just had an oats and honey granola bar with my coffee this morning and I feel like it is gone.

Cause I am a denizen of the frozen north and I likes it that way. I can't stand being in most any of the southern states.
Don't like (at all, as in no redeeming features period): Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kentucky, West Virginia. South Carolina
Can tolerate (barely): Tennessee, Texas (Yeah I know, it is home, but I am not the first person not super fond of home), North Carolina, Virginia
Never been (and don't want to go): Alabama, Florida.
So there you have it, not a southerner cause I don't like the south.
Favorite States thus far (not in order):
Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, upstate New York.
Kinda like: Ohio, Indiana. Arizona, California.
Pretty sure I would like if I ever go: Wyoming, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Utah, Alaska.
But notice none of those are considered "southern".
Just wondering

I'll take the south any day over the north. As far as the north, I like to visit but I am sooo glad to get back home.

Ha ha, the only time I will visit TX is between late November and late march.
If anyone in my family dies, they better do it during that time frame if the want me at the funeral :D
If they shuffle off in July, I'll send a nice card and some flowers.

Bro. John, not only are you blunt, but you call it like you see it. For those of us who are from the South could be offended by your directness, if we were easily offended.
But I still like you even though you are direct, 'cause i'm not easily offended. :icecream:

LOL Well I don't have any family in the north so I don't have to go. I lived in Wyoming for several years. Never did get to like the winters. After one winter of temps 40 below and wind chill of 64 below I gave up and got back down to God's country. :yay!:

My brother George lives in Jackson WY, I want to go visit him and do the snowmobile tour through Yellowstone. 40 below is fine with me. My bigest disappointment while in the Navy was that I didn't get selected for Operation DeepFreeze -- a six month winter over in Antarctica... Cold?

LOL It is very pretty up around Jackson, Wyoming. Was up there about 3 years ago. That is the south entrance to Yellowstone. We lived over around Cody a few years back. Cody is the east entrance to Yellowstone. Actually the prettiest way to go to Yellowstone is go to Red Lodge, Montana and go across Beartooth Pass and into the north east entrance. It is very beautiful. As a crow flies we didn't live far from Yellowstone. But of course we can't fly as a crow. LOL

LOL I don't know about where he lives but when we lived in Wyoming the cold was a lot different than in Louisiana. It was a dry cold. You could bundle up and get outside in 0 weather and it wouldn't bother you. I know this may sound a little strange to you but it is true.

Just wondering, I, like you, definately prefer the south over the north. My bro lived in AL, and LA and I FAR predfer the south to the north. Northern People or at least most are very unfriendly. Southern people are the most hospitable folks Ive ever been around. They call all the ladies Miss whomever and the Men Mr whomever. Very respectful poeple. I myself. live in the midwest. The gulf coast is somewhere I really like too.

I have lived in Il. for a brief time, and found the people in that town very friendly and sociable. I live south of ft. lauderdale fl. in a place called pimbroke pines. people from all nationalities. I couldn't even get the check-out girls to engage in a conversation while checking me out. We could not go to a bank and get a payroll check cashed. We had to open an account and wait for the check to clear before writing a check, but whowould take one? We could however go to a check cashing store and get one cashed for a large percentage of the check. Life there was miserable, i'm so thankful the job didn't last but a couple of months.
But still I prefer living in the south compared to anywhere else I have been.

That just means when a northerner stabs you in the back they are honest and up front about the fact they don't like you. Southerners do it with a honeyed smile and sweet words so that you never even feel the knife go in.

I suppose it all depends on what you mean by northerners, New England northerners and Wisconsin northerners aren't the same.
And what you may define as unfriendliness, based upon the laid back mellowness of the South isn't unfriendliness per se, just a state of being busy and not wanting to engage in conversation with strangers.
It is natural in rural towns down south to wave at everybody whether you know them or not.
Up here... different culture. People who wave at everyone are considered touched in the head.
As far as unfriendly, I don't find the Yankee New Englanders unfriendly, just more reserved. New Yorkers can be outright rude, but you try living crammed into a city with 8 million people jostling about in a hurry all the time and see what that does to your temper :D

Several years ago in November, my Husband and Son went to Woodland, Maine to work a shutdown. When they went to the Restaurant to eat, the waitress avoided them. My husband ask her why she treated them so rude? Her answer was....we don't like you people from the South coming up here and taking our men's jobs. Was that a reason to be rude to customers
Hubby said that he told her, well, we don't like people from the North coming to Mississippi and taking our men's jobs either, but if they do, and go out to eat, I promise you they will get first class treatment. And besides, I live within ten miles of a paper mill, and they hire people from other states, and I and my son can not get hired on down there, so we have to come up North in order to have a job. Our people down south appreciate the buisness the outsiders bring to our county.

They tolerate them as tourists along the seacoast and snowmobile trails in winter, but that is about it.
I have run into the same thing in Kentucky and in Pennsylvania. If you aren't from here you are an outsider and you will be even if you live here 40 years.

Yep, I can understand that. Where I live it is the same way. I have lived here for almost 12 years but I am still an outsider. I have made many friends and am accepted by a lot of people but on the whole I am an outsider and will always be an outsider.

I can understand that. But when you come from a very laid back, mellow and friendly bunch of people it is hard to accept someone that will not even just exchange pleasantries with you.
It is natural in rural towns down south to wave at everybody whether you know them or not.

I am an outsider where I live but still people will smile and wave at you. And if you should have car trouble it won't be but just a few minutes till someone will stop and see if they can help you. I had a flat a few months ago. I got out and opened my trunk and started taking out my extra and jack to change the tire. Before I could get all of it out a car stopped. A man stepped out and said I'll do that for you. So he changed the tire and I offered to pay him and he wouldn't take a dime. I like that kind of friendliness.

LOL I can see where that would make a person lose their temper. That is why I don't live there. Don't want to have to put up with all those people. I live close to a tourist town and in the summer I hate having to go to town and deal with all the tourist. I don't think I am the only one that hates dealing with tourist. I saw a sign on back of a truck that said it this is tourist season why can't we shoot them. :D
