I used to post on the CARM Forums a lot. I just checked back in there earlier today. Here is a question that a Trinitarian(Talen) wants answered.

He wants
a Oneness believer to describe the difference between nature and person to me. I have asked this a couple of times and it seems to get brushed under the carpet.

God Bless,
Jonus

Well my thought upon reading what you wrote would be the nature is what causes man to do what he does, and the person is the one acting upon their nature. You know, doing what comes naturally.

I wonder if that isn't the reason that John said what he did in 1st John chapter 3.

I could be wrong, but that would be my answer to the question.

Perhaps you should look into what the words "image" and "likeness" refer to in Gen. 1:26. I think an indepth study in that direction will start you on the rode to a rewarding answer.

God Bless,
JonusHi there, My understanding is a Nature is what makes a Person. For example Heb. 2:16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

One Difinition of Nature is as follows:The essential characteristics and qualities of a person or thing:

Second Dif. The sum of qualities and attributes which make a person or thing what it is, as distinct from others; native character; inherent or essential qualities or attributes; peculiar constitution or quality of being.

Person The composite of characteristics that make up an individual personality; the self.

The above difnitions in no wise explains God. But to understand the meaning of Nature and Person, these Dif. were quoted.

If I am guessing correctly, the question is, what is the distinction of the person of God (Omni present) and the person of Jesus. The distinction is not an eternal one, but, it is because of an incarnational one. The one and only person God, in his unlimited state of being (Nature) became the person Jesus the man (new nature) in the incarnation (manifested in flesh), thus making a distinction, not in Diety, but in the "Nature" of existing.

God came to exist as man (Jesus) while retaining his existence as the omni present, unseen God. The person, Jesus, being the one and only God, but now as a Human being (albeit God), emptied himself of his glory (Divine, unlimited Nature) existing as God (albeit Man), willing as man and limited as man. Philli. 2: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. I hope that wasn't to complicated and I hope what I wrote was helpfull.

God bless
