A lightbulb thought occured to me earlier today. If there is something which is a doctrine that has any affiliations and ties to the Roman Catholic Church, I will have nothing to do with it, or as little as possible. It started off on the wrong grounds, has produced offspring who rebelled, and continues today to be a slap in the face of God, so to speak.
Trinitarianism has its roots not in the Bible, but is an age-old pagan belief. The RCC brought it into the mainstream Church, and applied it to our God. It's ideas have developed over time in the church, from something closer to tritheism to a more unified being...but still 3-in-1.
Same with saint worship. And Mary worship. And Sunday worship (but I will not get into that one at this time). All of them pagan. The RCC now has a zillion gods, with the Trinity and Mary reigning over them, kind of like Zeus or something from old times. We know that the RCC's offspring, the Protestant church, rejected saint worship and Mary worship, and many other heretical doctrines. They were a babe at first, with most running for their lives upon pain of death. They wanted to start over again, with "sola scriptura", and they were right to do so. But their roots and their heritage lingered in different forms, and as I have said before, it is extremely difficult to get OUT of a trinitarian mindset. Saint and Mary worship, sure, easy enough. But this? That's a hard one to get out of the head. So, for most, it stayed. And the continued to teach it to their children, and so on and so forth. Any who did not believe in the trinity continued to be shunned, some even put to death.
This continues today...we who do not believe in any trinity are shunned by the mainstream church. Granted, there are those whose views of oneness truly are not biblical (JWs come to mind...they reject Jesus as God in flesh). Those in the early church who continued on with a oneness view of God were usually labelled heretics by the early RCC and put to death (or condemned to exile). I do not associate my beliefs with the commonly known "early church fathers", because...they were Roman Catholic. And I will have nothing to do with RCC beliefs. I do not acknowledge Constantine nor Augustine as reliable sources. nor any others like them. The early RCC put true Christianity to death, until it was quickly no part of history...they put "heretic" labels on many of them, which was quietly passed down through the centuries, forgotten by most, and the RCC's daughters, the Protestant church, accepted it as such. And when one looks into history, the only evidence left of any "Church" was the Roman Catholic Church. We have very little to no knowledge of those who survived the intense persecutions for 2000 years and never became part of that beast. They were secret, underground, probably, much like the true church in China. China has an official church, too...but they are not allowed to preach Jesus. The "official" churches there know nothing. And without Jesus, the "official" churches do not have believers. The only true believers are hidden, and there has never been any ability to properly count them. And so with true Christians throughout 2 millenia.
With so many of us today, such as me, we have had to "come out" of the RCC and her daughters. We have had to go way back to the TRUE roots of Christianity...Jesus and the apostles...to discern and determine the real doctrine they were trying to teach. Many of us, me included, have a difficult time getting out of our minds what we were taught for so long, but are determined not to pass those things on to our own children. I want my children to believe what is in the Bible, as do most Christians, not on what tradition has stated - which is much harder to do. We have had to take a look at the RCC and the Protestant church and see which of what they teach is true, what is false, and go from there. I imagine there is a rare person - extremely rare - who never had roots in the Protestant church, nor in the Catholic church, nor was an unbeliever. Part of a long history of "underground" believers unscathed. I do not know if such even exists. If someone can correct me, and point to me of any group of people or individuals like this, please, show me! I would be most grateful.
ANyway, I wrote more than I intended. I was never part of the RCC, and have turned my back on the mainstream American Protestant church, and have gotten down to the grassroots of the Bible, and trying to find like-minded believers is difficult. And when I found Oneness believers, I was overjoyed because I did not know any such group existed which believed like me (well, for the most part, anyway), according solely to the Bible.
