leeners has many cool things. I want to get their hotsauce making stuff.

Make some habanero sauce and then kick it to insanity level with extract. Boom.

yes, it didn't turn out so good, I used too much bleach while cleaning the soda bottle. The root beer tasted like clorox.

could you possibly use a canning pot to boil the bottle instead?

I would love to see a "make your own cheese!" kit at Bed Bath and Beyond one of these days. :)

Two Christmas's ago my wife bought me a wine making kit but I have yet to do anything with it -a fact that I get reminded of every month or two. I may pull it out this week in preparation for our big cross-country move early next year. The main thing throughout the whole process is to KEEP THINGS STERILE. Just like making preserves.

Will it be vanilla cinamon rose scented?

Yup, in my root beer experiment the bottles were most definately STERILE!

My Daddy went through a 'make-your-own-root-beer' phase when I was a kid. Turned me right off the stuff. Just the smell of rootbeer makes me nauseous to this day.

If we're in a resturant where you can refill your own drinks, my husband thinks its especially funny to offer to refill mine and come back with a glass of root beer. First time he did it, I gagged and almost humiliated myself in front of the other diners.

Maybe he was just trying to prompt me to not let HIS glass get empty.

Hmmm..

Yael -- I might have to take back some of those things I said about him!!
