Or , what it truly means to be a Deacon.

Redarding Diakonos, Night posted :

"It seems likely that diakonos was the designation for an official leadership position in the Early Church."

Well , lets take a quick surface look !

AV - minister 20, servant 8, deacon 3; 31

GK - 1356 { diavkono" }

1) one who executes the commands of another, esp. of a master, a servant, attendant, minister
1a) the servant of a king
1b) a deacon, one who, by virtue of the office assigned to him by the church, cares for the poor and has charge of and distributes the money collected for their use
1c) a waiter, one who serves food and drink
Enhanced Strong’s Lexicon, (Oak Harbor, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc.) 1995.

Uhh...beg to differ with you , but this position is ALWAYS in the context of one who humbly and i might say , horourably serves ! Being a deacon was very respectable position of one that did basically the core everday hard work in tending to the Church ,the people of God.

Also , i dont know how you can get "pastor" out of this. The fact that this particular entry is translated in the KJV 18 out of 21 times as "minister" gives creedence to the oh so divine saying of the Lord:

"But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; 27And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant"

Minister in this verse is , you guessed it , diakonos.

The greatest and most blessed thing on earth to be is someones minister !!! To truly "serve" one another in Love !

What is the point of this post?
What I am seeing is someone who wants to mock what women do for God and what they did in the New Testament.God does what he wants. We just follow and say Yes Sir!!!!
I am so glad we have the biblical example of Sister Phoebe who
scripturally it was said :

PHOEBE

[FEE bih] (radiant)-- a servant of the church in Cenchrea, the eastern port of Corinth <Rom. 16:1>; (Phebe, KJV). The apostle Paul tells us little about Phoebe, other than "she has been a helper of many and of myself also" <Rom. 16:2>. The Greek words he used to describe her suggest that Phoebe was a wealthy businesswoman. Many scholars believe she delivered Paul's letter to the Romans.
(from Nelson's Illustrated Bible Dictionary)
I hope some day great men of God will say the same about me...
that I have been a helper of many. What a good reputation Phoebe had among the saints.Praise Jesus.lv sis.c

What an offensive and utterly presumptous post ddc . :( The point is a point of view being expressed that has to do with another related thread. Actually , i got alot spiritually out of this subject. I felt the Lord ministering to me in a special way after he gave me that.

What is the point with your disrespectful reply ?:realmad:

Old Preach,

What Pheobe was doing was simply a helper to the apostles. Which is what the pastors and teachers are supposed to be as well for their apostles over their fellowships. So that they do not have to be there to take care of these matters at all times. Which is why Paul sent some to help her in this endeavor, telling them to submit to her and do so. Just as she was obviously submitted to Paul as the head over the fellowship she was serving as deaconness (pastor).

I don't think DDC was out of order at all.

I also get a lot out of this subject as well. Especially in light of the fact that I am also reading a book that pertains to the subject of Church order, and here we are discussing a part of it right here.

Let me ask you a question. Do you not believe that we that abide in Christ and He abides in us, are walking in the kingdom of God that Jesus described in John chapter 3. But instead believe this kingdomis something that is to come in the sweet by and by, so to speak. Because it states clearly that we are in verse 12. And if this is true, then why is it so difficult to believe that we that are in that kingdom are neither male or female as well, which Paul tells us also in the book of Galatians? And if there is neither male or female, then why is their male or female issues within the confines of Church government as well, which deals with kingdom principles?

I honest believe you are steeped in these doctrinal teachings that are ot of God Oldpreach. And that I understand. But I respectfully encourage you to take another look, seeking God about it a little further rather than being closed. Because while everything another has said about this issue may not entirely be on target, there has been some very good points brought out to prove these doctrines to be erroneous. And that the male and female issues are mainly regarding the government of the home, and not the Church at all. Not to mention the spiritual meanings behind them, which completely eliminates what you and others are saying about these. I say that, because I am certain you do not believe that females are saved by birthing babies at all, which is written in the last verse of 1st Tim. 2:15. But we are saved by birthing Christ within us, that is for sure. Not just women, but men as well.

Oldpreach, having "discussed" things with you before I understand Ddc's reaction. "Once bitten, twice shy"

I don't know what you mean oldpreach. What was the point of your contentious reply?
Here is what I see in your first post.
1.you disagree with women pastors.Which is your opinion. But let me add that I doubt it is in the interest of this discussion group to try and prove who does or who doesn't belong in ministry. There are as you can probably agree many opinions concerning this and it is a very contentious subject among ministers and saints alike. With both sides of the argument having their "biblical stance."
2.You seem to be saying that you want to be a servant which is very good.As I can see where Jesus said to his disciples on the last passover together with them to let him who would be the greatest be the servant of them all.So this is good.
3.I apologize if I misunderstood the spirit in which you posted this thread. Please forgive the assumption.lv sis.c
