I love to read. One of my favorite apostolic lady authors is Sis.Nona Freeman. Her easy to read material full of soulwinning just spurs me on to deeper deepths and greater heights in God.
Who is your favorite lady author and which book do you like the best?

I really don't have a favorite Apostolic Author, but I did love the third book by Ruth Rieder which is called "Covenant by Sacrifice"
I have read all of her books, and while I don't agree with everything to the extent she believes, I really enjoyed her last book.
My all time favorite book for women isn't by an Apostolic writer, it is Power of a Praying Wife, by Stormie Omartian. My copy is worn, torn and battered from much reading. It really has wonderful things for every married woman to read.
Through this book I was able to make great changes in my life. I recommend it to everyone.

Hi Ladies........I like LaJoyce Martin.....she writes alot like Janette Oke, yet has the truth. Her first pioneer series was really a good witnessing tool, because she doesn't bring in the true plan of salvation until the 3rd book and she already has the interest of the reader. Also Sis. Joy Haney has some real faith building books.....

Hi Sis. DDC,
You can get the Bodie Thoene books from most christian bookstores, the ones I told you about, probably would be easier to find in the CBD catalog. Their real name is Christian Book Distributors. Their webpage is: http://www.christianbook.com/
She and her husband (Brock) have written alot of books. They really do a good, and readable job...not something you have to be a rocket scientist to understand......:p

Believe it or not my husband is the first one to check out the christian novels. In fact we together have read most of Janet Oke,
Lajoyce Martin,Gilbert Morris...especially because of all the colonial history.I have not read many of this kind of material lately because its what I call leisure books and lately I have been researching so much. But I snicker when I see Bro.Cooper crying about a book....but then he is a romantic type...sis.c

I just recommended that book this week to a sister struggling with consecration issues.Boy that is one book I will never forget.
Anything by Sister Haney is really good.I got to hear her preach at a ladies conference a few years ago.She is very down to earth and her greatest burden is souls. She is as far from a city lady as I ever imagined. She was just a country girl at heard. So refreshing.
I don't know what I was expecting but she sure was a surprise.

I do not have credit cards. I went to the PPH website to purchase the book on Oma and realized that they only take credit cards.
I am in the process of looking for a church in the area that sells Pentecostal books. I called the local Christian bookstores, and they said they could not order Oma for me. I was really shocked.
They said that it wasn't in their databases of available books. I also checked out Word Aflame and other apostolic book websites and did not find Oma.
Sis., you really got me curious about this book, Oma.

DDC,
I have read "Lord Why am I Crying?" IT is absolutely phenominal! I have always had a hard time understanding depression. I never have been there and so...I couldn't really deal with them in an understanding way. Until this book. I feel like I have reached into the mind of someone who has been there and done that, and now I am a more fully equipped Christian because of it.
I would recommend as a companion to it the Fiction work..."when Joy Came to Stay" By Karen Kingsbury. This book tells a fictional tale of a woman dealing with depression, eventually sent to a mental hospital. And then.....chase it with Sis Doty's book. You will never be the same again

Sister Dee,
Did that book by anychance have a story about a Mountain who loved a bird?
I minister using the parable of the sower in a message about breaking up the fallow ground of your heart and the blood of Jesus. In fact one of the brothers wrote a song about this particular message.I always like to tell the story of how faith became planted in the heart of the mountain. It is an awesome epic.lv sis.c

All of Sis. Joy Haney's books are excellent must reads. :)
And if you like true life stories, I recommend Angel At My Shoulder - Sis. Agnes Rich Story. Sis. Rich was a pastor in Nebraska and faced much opposition. Shes been deceased for several years now but I believe her book is still available through the PPH. Years ago, Sis. Rich preached a 3 week revival for my church.
Also, Sis. Watkins book, (I think her first name is Penny), That I May Know Him, is an excellent true life story regarding knowing Him through suffering. Sis. Watkins book is also available through the PPH I believe. Sis. Watkins has been to my church several times to speak to the ladies. Her husband pastors somewhere in Texas.

I'm a long time fan of Sis. Freeman. And Sis. Reider's books freed me from a lifetime of struggling with my hair!
I'd like to recommend some recent reads of mine, altho' some have been around a while...
Modesty, I Will Not Bow and I Live By His Word by Nan Pamer (Great for building up your commitment to standards of holiness.)
A View From My Kitchen Sink by Stephanie Suber (Lots of chuckles and "Boy, have I been there" anecdotes wives and mothers will enjoy.)
These Things We Hold by Staci Wilder (Excellent fiction, but then I may be prejudiced as the author has been a dear friend of mine for over 20 years! She also has another For Such A Time As This that I haven't read yet...it is a sequel, I believe.) She has also launched an online bookstore to spread the Word - www.staciwilder.com (http://www.staciwilder.com)
Also, Nancy Grandquist has a good one -- that touched my heart as a mother of lost/backslidden children -- but I've loaned it out and don't remember the exact title.

Yes, Sis ddc I have read "when ye pray" by Joy Haney. "When ye pray", When ye fast" and "When ye give" all changed my walk with God when I read them years ago.
Joy Haney is one of my absolute favorite authors! I have a collection of just about all her books! The last one I read was "When God doesnt answer on time" Excellent book! I just recently lent it out.
I can also reccommend "Behold thy handmaid" and Broken vessels" by Chris McQuay available at PPH.

I have read most of the books listed in the post and they are all good. I have not read the Bodie Thoene books, but will perhaps evently get there. I have a bookshelf full of unread books. "Under the Shadow of the Almighty" by Deborah Randall is good, and she has two other books, "Being Expert in War" and "The Treasures of Darkness". All are very good. Also, Bro. T. W. Barnes books are great. And Bro. Lee Stoneking's books are also very good. I have a library full of books and I am at work so I am going from memory. But I don't have the time to read as I used to. I love to read. But I am trying to limit my reading to research until I finish writing my books. As a side note, Bro. Barnes last book, many have testified to being healed just from reading his book.

Hi Sister TufLuv,
Are you a reader too? I found this thread and thought to revive it since I enjoy reading. Sometimes I am unsure about an author, and hearing someone's reviews help in selecting new material. Yes, isn't that a strange remark to make about Christian reading material. I have read all kinds before my conversion, and I can attest that that was a very foolish remark about Ponography in these books.

Who is your favorite lady author and which book do you like the best?
Well, I can't say I have a favorite, Apostolic lady author. But I've been reading Focused Light(volume I) by Thetus Tenney and have REALLY been blessed and encouraged by it. She talks about the Word, prayer, fasting. But what has really helped me is her chapter on praise supported by many scripture references.
My dear husband has for years told me that praise is the missing link in my walk with the Lord. She really elaborates and has a long chapter on praise.
So on that note, The LORD is GREAT and GREATLY to be PRAISED and HIS Greatness is Unsearchable! Let EVERYTHING that hath breath, PRAISE THE LORD!
Teach me to praise you Lord.

I have really enjoyed reading "Breaking the Yoke of Spiritual Oppression" by Sis. Dale Anderson from Indianapolis.
This book biblically defines depression and has some great insight on the use of psychotropic drugs for bi-polar, etc... Her insight is invaluable to the Body of Christ. She too had to endure a season of deep depression and out that blossomed this must have book. It has helped many people I know and I can't keep a copy in my home because I keep giving them out!
If someone you are ministering to, someone you know or love suffers from any type of depression this book would certainly help you to help them!

I just got delivered some of the books I ordered from sister Doty's website. I have one called 'Walking in Trust', am reading that at the same time as i am reading 'Gay Conversations'. Very good. Good food to chew on. I am sooo looking forward to reading the others. But I have to finish these two first. One for myself and the other to inform me of how to reach out to the Gay community. I am enjoying it immensely!!! We all have these precious souls in our community, feeling like outcasts with no one to give them the glimmer of hope they soo desperately need to hear. The love Jesus gives is the love we need to show them.
This is a very good book. I will be showing my Pastor this and the others.

welcome to the Forum Pentecostal Sue, Any friend of Sis. Nona Freeman's is a friend of mine. She is such a precious lady of God. She is one of my Hero's in the Faith.
Did you by chance see her when she came to Powell's Grove in XXXXXX, Ms. some months back?

Joy Haney by far! Even my husband enjoys reading her books. He says she is so easy to understand. She is incredibly inspiring. When Ye Fast and When Ye Pray are good beginners.
I agree. Sister Joy Haney's books are very good Faith Builders. She even told a story in one of her books of how God moved a Mountain. ( Literally ) Stories like this help me to see the unseen.

I'm bumping this thread ahead again for some of newer posters may know of some good reading material. I did read several of Sister Doty's books too. I've read lots that's probably slipped my mind over the years.

Any of you ladies like to read Fiction? I'm reading a historical called The Covenant by Hilda Stahl. This is my first book by this author. Is anyone else familiar with her writing?
