I have a question which will most likley be very easy to answer. I have been in the church my whole life, but this verse here really confused me.
Mark 10:17-18,
17'And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
18'And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
Now I will not be swayed on the fact that God is ONE, but.... why does Jesus here say " there is none good but one" Jesus is God....
So I would just like to see what some other people think about this verse.

Jesus the man was talking to a man who saw him as a man. This man was calling another man good and Jesus knew that.
So he spoke to him concerning How that God is good and questioned him about calling another man good.
One reason that so many could not receive the teachings of Jesus was because they could only see him as a man. Sometimes the crowd would see the miracles and ask how can a man do such things?
Even the deciples had a difficult time understanding how a man could calm a storm and bring peace to the waves of the sea. "What manner of man is this...?"
We can look back and know that God was in Christ during those days and that he was more than just a man.
If we had been living in that place at that time, it would have been difficult to believe that a man would be able to do what only God could do.
When a blind man was healed and testified that a man called Jesus made clay and told me to go wash and I went and washed and came seeing, the religious leaders of the day were filled with doubt and had many questions about this man. "How can a man that is a sinner open blinded eyes?"
When the sick of the palsy was healed Jesus forgave his sins. There was confusion over the fact that nobody can forgive sins but God.
They loved the miracles and they enjoyed the blessing, but in the popular opinion of those who loved him at that time was this. Jesus was a great man of God doing the will of God, but they did not see him as being God.
God is Spirit and we know that the Son of the Holy Spirit of God has become both Lord and Christ. They did not know this, and very few found the revelation before the day of pentecost.
When Peter said "Thou art the Christ the Son of the living God..." The Lord told him that he had received that knowledge by revelation, and even then there was much more yet to be discovered about this Jesus who would become known as their God and our God.
It was difficult for doubtiing Thomas who finally looked at Jesus after he had been dead and said..."MY LORD AND MY GOD." That was a point of revelation for Thomas when he came to know that Jesus truly is God.
God bless

Bro Rutledge, I concur wholeheartedly. I have always felt that Jesus answered him this way because He could see that he couldn't see Who he was talking to. I have often wondered if I would have been able to recognize Him as God had I lived my life in those days.
