Please ignore the references to beer and cigarettes. I didn't want to take the time to change it. To do so could have messed up the entire quiz. I developed an excel spreadsheet that helped me answer the question. I don't know if Einstein really wrote it and I don't know if the part about 98% of the people in the world can't solve it. That's what the University of Illinois said. I was able to answer the question correctly.

BTW: There is a real answer. This is not one of those dumb quizes that make you strain the brain and then makes you feel stupid because it was a trick answer. :)

There are 5 houses in 5 different colors
In each house lives a person with a different nationality
These 5 owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet
No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar or drink the same drink.
Here's the question: Who owns the fish?

The Brit lives in a red house
The Swede keeps dogs as pets
The Dane drinks tea
The green house is on the left of the white house
The green house owner drinks coffee
The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds
The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill
The man living in the house right in the middle drinks milk
The Norwegian lives in the first house
The man who smokes Blend lives next door to the one who keeps cats.
The man who keeps horses lives next door to the man who smokes Dunhill
The owner who smokes Blue Master drinks beer
The German smokes Prince
The Norwegian lives next to the blue house
The man who smokes Blend has a neighbor who drinks water
With these 15 clues the problem is solvable.

Don't confuse everybody. LOL. I think Pall Mall is cigarettes.

HINT: There is no logic behind it (i.e. The one who drinks milk must keep cats since cats like milk) THAT IS NOT THE CASE.

HINT: After you have gotten all of the obvious answers (i.e. #9, #14, etc) the next thing to do is to determine the house colors.

HAHA. You are wrong, sister. If you keep guessing you will eventually get it right. There are only five choices anyway. :)

To me, it's just as important to guess every item that each of them have. In order to guess who owns the fish, you will have to guess everything that each of them have. The fish is going to be the last item you get.

Perhaps I should attach the spreadsheet that I made up to go along with it. It will help in solving the puzzle.

Here is the spreadsheet to go along with the puzzle. I had to convert the Excel file into a PDF. It works best if you can have it on a spreadsheet. It will still work this way. You will just have to print it and use a pen.

After you get all of answers that are given to you outright in the clues, you need to start on the house colors. If you don't get them, then there is no way to solve it.

Everyones thinking skills are different. I thought this was quite easy.

I have trouble with word puzzles and don't really care for Scrabble. My wife and in-laws love it.

I love Scrabble, and am actually pretty good at it. But this puzzle is different. I have tried to solve puzzles before that would turn out to be so simple, once I stopped trying to make it difficult.

If I were to do the puzzle again right now it would be difficult for me, even though I've done it 10+ times and I know all the answers. It keeps my brain sharp...or as sharp as it could possibly be :)
