View Full Version : I have always wondered about this

I have been Apostolic for almost ten years and I have not cut my hair in 10 years. But my hair is not what I consider to be long by any means. It is just past my shoulders.
But I have seen women who had hair to the backs of their knees, that never even stepped into a church.
Why is this so?
I have been told that my hair wont grow because I used to cut it short before I came into the truth. But,I do not believe that because once we are baptized in Jesus name all old stuff is passed away.

Praise the Lord Sister Milady,
It is not because you cut your hair short before you came to the Lord. Whoever said that needs to read a few 'hair' books:)
We all have different length hair in our church. Just look around yours, you will see the same. It is because of the genes we have in our'make up'. Some hair grows very long, and some short. Look at some of the dark skinned people, their hair is short and curly, and some really curly, you can ask them, the ones in church who have been convicted of the uncut hair.
I know many different nationalities here, and there are many different lengths of uncut hair.
I have been walking in Jesus' light for just under 12 years and my hair is not very long or thick. My, my if you should've seen my hair or lack of before I got my revelation from the Lord about uncut hair, it is a wonder my hair grew at all, if I had been told what you were told.
It is not the length of hair that matters any way.
But I will not say any more on that line. I just want to encourage you with the above:)
Burning.

It may have something to do with genetics, do other women in your family have 'long' hair?
As for what was said about the reason your hair won't grow?  How silly!
Although my mother, when she was young, about 18...she had the longest, most beautiful hair, we have a picture of it!
She decided to have it cut a bit-the woman doing it went scissor happy!!
Poor mom! It NEVER ever grew back the same! It had been long straight, and went to short/curly! Why??? We've never figured it out. So, she's kept it the same ever since, not even shoulder length and its thick/curly. She hates my 'new hair'! They all do.
I had always had my hair pretty much like hers, until I got baptized, and never had it cut nor dyed it, again. Surprise of surprises, it grows!!
I think its pretty much stopped at present. Since its frizzy, you can't really tell HOW long it is, until its wet. Its down to mid-back.
A lot to handle! I keep it mainly up, now, as its so-o humid here.
As long as you don't cut it...you're fine. My best sister friend, hers is very thin, and its barely to past her shoulders., and hasn't grown more than that. Her sister's hair is very thin-ning as well., and never grew past a certain length (known her all my life)..but she cuts, colors and perms it though, even though baptized years ago. :grumble:

According to the Hair bible, everyone's hair is on a growth cycle of 2-6 years. The hair cycle is when your hair falls out to make room for new growth. If your hair is on the 2 years cycle it's not going to grow very long at all. It needs to be on the 6 year cycle to grow past your waist. Also naturally curly hair doesn't grow as long as straight hair.

I have always had relatively "short" hair by Apostolic standards. My hair is just above my waist.............very fine and thin. My mom's hair is to her knees while my sister has gorgeous thick, wavy hair just below her waist.
I try to take great care of my hair and have prayed for it. Even through pregnancy (you know the saying about beautiful hair and nails...........) my hair didn't grow. Recently I have taken to wearing my hair twisted up in a bun to work, to bed, and around the house. In 3 months my hair has grown about 2 inches......I am 38 and have not had a growth spurt of hair since I was about 16..............
Hair length has nothing to do with how you used to wear it. My mom had extremely short hair until she was in the church and now it is below her knees. I had a pixie cut when I was very young and my hair is to my waist..........My sister always wore her hair long..............Guess it is just what genetic makup you get........I have my paternal grandmothers hair type!

Well when I got saved my hair was spiked. Now it reaches my thigh. So it doesn't matter when you started.Hair and hair growth patterns are genetic. Now you can pray and it will grow.God can do anything. But do you realize how hard it is to do hairdo's when its extremely long.Probably you are very blessed just as you are.lv sis.c

Sorry for a Man to put in his opinion - - But - -
My ex-wife before she back slid had hair almost down to her ankles.
After she back slid she cut it to about mid way down her back. – Half way between her heck and her waist.
That was three years ago - well over a foot and a half had grown back – before she re-cut it again.
My mother who has been the Church since 1978 has never cut her since coming in.
Her hair length is only to her shoulders or a little more – it has only grown about 2 or so inches in 25 yrs.
There are many different factors as to why or why not – your hair will grow.
Over health will hamper the growth of your hair due to medications.
But the 2 things that you are ultimately responsible for are:
1) The cutting of it
2) The care of it

I do not know. Because most of the women in my family choose to cut their hair really short. None of the rest of my family is Apostolic.

Also natural curley hair doesnt grow as long as straight hair
This is SO true ! I have natural curley hair and I feel blessed to have it middle back length. It hasnt grown in 3-4 yrs.
There was a time it stopped growing. I had prayed that God would make it all one length because when I came into church 14 yrs ago it was all layered. As it grew it still was layered and was difficult to deal with ( there was always something that wouldnt tuck in right!) Finally its pretty much all one length. When its wet its much longer!
I did cut my hair once after I got the holy ghost and thats when God began to show me what he wanted. I remember I spent a lot of time and money on my hair in the world (Trims every 6-8 wks, deep conditioning tx's, etc) and I went for my monthly trim about a month after receiving the HG and asked her to only cut "a little" and she cut "a lot" and I remember how angry I was!And I have never cut it since.
I also am very careful with the way I treat my hair I use good shampoo and conditioner(neutogena products-especially the anti residue shampoo, it really gets out the gel and hair spray and leaves your hair very clean!) I NEVER comb my hair out before washing, I have read in many books that a lot of women do but I believe that breaks your hair and will splilt it. (My pastors wife suggestion long ago) then you end up with frizzies especially with curly hair! I gently comb it out after washing and then put it up in a towel. as Im combing I always pray "Lord Lengthen, strengthen and thicken my hair" It hasnt lengthened latley, but its always been healthy!:nt:

I read where one of you mentioned perms.I have a friend who had such long hair.Well she decided to perm it and did it repeatedly.Suddenly her hair would not grow as much. Also it so damaged her hair. But now since she went through Chemo she has lost it all.I know for a fact that when women take Chemo and their hair grows back it is a different kind of hair and funny but it may even be a different color. Its the chemicals.Chemicals are bad not just for the hair. But your scalp is one of the areas of your body that has a lot of circulatory vessels.A cut to the head bleeds ever so much.Think how easily things can be absorbed into your bloodstream via the scalp. Those chemicals are going to give some folks alzheimers. My mom had it and she was a beautician.I can hardly ever remember a time when she wasn't using permanent hair color. And the perms were lots harsher years ago.People don't think about that stuff. But also consider the stuff you bathe in and even the water you bathe in.Chemicals soak right into your skin in the bath.lv sis.c
