Florida Store Clerk Invokes Jesus to Foil Robbery

It was one of the most gentle, remorseful and respectful attempted robberies ever. A soft-spoken young woman working in a Florida cellphone store talked an apologetic, nervous bandit out of emptying her cash drawer by announcing she wanted to talk about God, the Miami Herald reported Friday.

A young employee, 20, was alone in the store in Pompano Beach, Fla., on July 23 when an unidentified man displayed a gun and demanded cash. The young lady, a devout Christian, calmly said, "You can do whatever you want, but I'm just going to talk to you about Jesus, my God, before you leave."

There followed a five-minute calm, polite conversation in which the pair -- he said he also was Christian and "I absolutely hate doing this" -- discussed, among other things, a chapel they had both attended and “Pastor Bob.”

The robber told her he needed $300 to stave off eviction and she showed him there was no cash in her drawer.

Even as he walked out apologizing, she called "You know you don't need to do that. You know Jesus. He can help you!''

In a final confession, the would-be robber admitted, "You wanna know something? It's not real. It's a BB gun. That's how great I am at this."

She told him, "Be careful, have a good one. May God bless you."

Police said he is still at large.

I don't usually say this, but I hope they don't catch him. And I hope the woman has enough honor not to help the police with the investigation. I just have a feeling the kid learned something valuable and won't do this again. He was obviously in more danger then anyone he could have "robbed".

I normally would not say that either Sis Meagain, but I very much agree with what you stated! I honestly believe that young man was "scared straight" in an easy sort of way! :)

I am for a person being held accountable for their actions. But in this case I hope that they don't find him. I feel like he saw the error of his way.

Yes, this is a case where having mercy on the would be robber is definitely in order.

Years ago law enforcement probably would have shown mercy. For some reason, no mercy is EVER shown to anybody anymore. Not to women or children even. Wonder why?

Is seems to me that people in authority think everything is black and white. There is no middle ground that is unless they are caught doing something wrong. ;)

Yeah, like beating the snot out of handcuffed people who are already lying flat on the ground.

"Oh!!! the tape made it look different then what it actually was!!"

Jesus told us "Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy."

There's not a whole lot of folks that are merciful anymore.

I read this a few minutes ago........

A mother once approached Napoleon seeking a pardon for her son. The emperor replied that the young man had committed a certain offense twice and justice demanded death. "But I don't ask for justice," the mother explained. "I plead for mercy." "But your son does not deserve mercy," Napoleon replied. "Sir," the woman cried, "It would not be mercy if he deserved it, and mercy is all I ask for." "Well, then," the emperor said, "I will have mercy." And he spared the woman's son.

This is the essence of mercy. Mercy is compassion on someone based on their need. It is not justice, for mercy extends compassion on others in spite of their deserving it. The Bible tells us that God’s people should extend mercy to others and then be able to receive mercy in turn.

Isn't it so good that when we deserved justice that God came and died for us that we could obtain mercy. Isn't so good that God loves us so much that even though we do wrong and fail him so many times he still extends mercy to us.
