View Full Version : Why leave the church?

I noticed on Tammy's thread called "Questions" that most of the replies were for her to leave the church.
Why should she be the one to leave? Maybe I am missing something here but with so many being witness to the event, why should it not be the Pastor and his family leave?

Hi, seeker:
Truth be told, in an ideal world, that would not be a problem.
But we both know that foul leadership and nepotism (especially in the church) is very difficult to deal with. If Tammy was to start a coup and try to get them outta there, most of the church would back down b/c most do not feel comfortable overthrowing corrupt leadership. She would be labeled by most in the church as 'divisive' and 'rebellious.' It can be a very nasty fight that would cause spiritual wounds that can take years to heal, thus hindering her walk.
For this reason, it is best for her that she just quietly leave and find a church home where she would be loved and discipled properly. There is still some spiritual healing that needs to take place now. From her posts, it sounded like this thing has been going on for years. Family churches are known for resisting change and allowing the Holy Ghost to really move. They get position and power hungry and misuse the authority God gave them. This can be very difficult to deal with; I have been there. I would encourage anyone to leave. Unless, of course, the Holy Ghost says to stay and fight; then one would be supernaturally equipped for the task at hand. I heard a famous preacher once say, "There is no fight like a church fight..."
Oh, how so very true!
And as much that lieth within you, leave in peace with all men...

Seeker,
These people are NOT just going to leave. There are some who want to stay and fight for the church. However, I feel as though I have wasted enough time here (11 years). I feel bound and I cannot continue to stay in that. It is a bad commentary to say that you would not want to invite those that you witness to to your home church. Also, Survivor is correct on a lot of issues. I have already been lableled because I do not believe God is working in them.

Sis. Tammy,
I understand how walking away would seem better than going thru more turmoil.
Sis. Wenona,
Again, you share so much wisdom with us. Thank you. I hope that I will continue to grow in Christ and become a better person because of my own struggles at church. I have learned so much already and it is encouraging to know others have made it thru the storm.
Something that concerns me about walking away are the old saints who are left behind. Many of them are on fixed incomes and can't afford to go to church in another town. They have spent so many years of their lives supporting the church in both time and money and praying for Gods people.
I think sometimes we are led to stay. We may suffer for a time, but God is there, watching and guiding us, pulling us closer, giving us strength and courage to face the storm. seeker
