View Full Version : New Hairdo (To Me)

I came up with a new hairdo. It is so easy!! Even for me!! Part your hair from temple around back to temple like you are going to pull it back from your face. Instead of pulling it straight back and securing it, twist the hair and push it up a little bit and then I secured it with a 3" curved barrette. Then I took the hair that was left over and put it into a ponytail, based at the barrette. Twist that hair around and around in a circle, high enough so that it covers the barrette that holds the hair back off of your face. I secured the twisty roll with 3 of those plastic grip pins. No ends hanging out. Everyone at work thinks it's very pretty. Yay! I did it!!!!!!!!!

That may seem easy to you, but to me that sounds impossible. I am so not good at doing hair and I have no idea how to do what you just said to do. I am glad you found a new hair-do that works and looks good. :)

If I can find someone with a digital camera, I will show you. I'm still on a chicken feather diet so it might me a while. :)

One of my favorite sayings came from an old friend of mine. He said, " Life is like this... Some times you're eating chicken, some times you're eating chicken feathers." How very true that is.

Renee, just in case you still don't get it....
Sometimes we have plenty of cash.. and other times we are more strapped for cash. You know depending upon circumstances at the time.

Amen to that!!! I do know how to put my hair in a ponytail...not much else either. I can do a few things with my hair, but not anything like what most Pentecostal women can do. I tried to blowdry my hair strait tonight and all it did was FRIZZ!!! I can only do so much with my hair. :spin:

Not hard folks. All she did was put the top of her hair in an up and down just kinda poofy. Then she put the rest in a ponytail and twisted it and secured it with rubber bands.I did not see where pins were used at all.Easy to me.lv sis.c

Sister Lellingsworth,
When ever you can get a pic of your hair style, we will be interested in seeing it. My wife is always looking for new ways to try with her hair. She has really long hair, past her knees, so some style work and other do not. Your style sounds like something she would like to try.
Also ladies,
Could someone give directions on how to do the hairstyle where the hair is kind of rounded out all around the head and then a kind of bun on top. My wife would like to try that.
Thanks
Bro. Timothy

That second "do" sounds like the Gibson girl "do"...something I've considered myself! An old style, that goes complete with long skirts, long sleeves and high neck collars! Its rarely seen anymore, although a former woman 'boss' of mine, has always done hers like that, to this day! Its unique. I think its sophisticated.
Of course, I think I might need some longer hair for that 'do'..maybe in a few years! Wow, Candi's hair is really long!

Yeah,
Kind of like the Gibson Girls hairstyle. Anyone know how to do it????? Hint!!!!!!!!
Candy does a large french roll at time, and what I call a swoop, lol( it kind of swoops out just a little bit on her forehead. Hard to explain, maybe I can get a pic of it sometimes. It really looks good on her, and that is why she wants to try the gibson girl style we ask about.
God has blessed her hair greatly since we married. It is not as thick after the children, but still thick enough. She has majorly thick hair when we first got married. You should have seen her pony tails and braids then, LOL LOL!!!
Thanks for any help

Hey, West Coast Conference is the 12th-14th. I'm there. They wouldn't say anything to me, cuz I'm new. Well, maybe not new enough. They'd probably lay hands on me and pray like crazy. Ha Ha Ha. :)

There isn't any ladies in my church that have hair-dos that I like. There are only 5 ladies and me. One of them is my mom and Lord knows she can't do those hair-dos. I am just not talented enough to do some of that stuff. Right now I am sitting here with my hair split in the middle in braids on each side. My mom called me Pocohantas this afternoon. I can't do much, but I don't think it really matters. I don't fix my hair to please anyone. That is just my opinion.

Lani, now that 'do' on your avatar is neat! WIsh I had smooth straight hair to do that style with.
Sisters with hair like mine know that feeling!
Now, of course, we COULD go and straighten out our hair...and I used to all my life pre-Apostolic days. Much chemicals had ruined my hair, partially leading to why it is how it is now.
Has anyone tried the 'wand' thingy that is heated, and you "press" your hair with it to straighten it? I've seen such contraptions in our grocery store amongst the hair grooming stuff. Its like an electric 'crimper' thing., (which I've also thought of using)..'
I pretty much figured that even THAT might not stop my frizzies, maybe make 'em worse, who knows. The only thing that works to smooth/straighten my hair, so far...has been good ole fashioned rollers, and letting it dry naturally.
But it takes too-oo much time for me! Sure is nice though afterwards. *sigh* Some women have it like that naturally.
I've thought it kinda controversial due to a verse that talks about 'broided' hair...and so on.
It is not 'natural' look if I have to use certain means to get it like that.

Thanks for the kind remark Renee 29. I try to keep an eye out for Candy for things like these.
I am on line a more than she is most of the time. Add to that these kind of boards are not her forte, :)
I like my wifes hair down best of all too, but with all our little ones, it is not always the best way to wear it. Add to that the baby just loves to grab her hair when it is down, LOL.
Have a great day,
Bro. Timothy

Thank you for talking about hair do, I have a problem with my hair too. I have a very thin and fine hair that every time I go to church I have to think what I am going to do with my hair. I have notice that women in our church have a prety hair do and I am asking my self how many hours do they fix their hair? At Soul Harbor church which I see a lot of ladies that has good hair do, the wife of the Pastor give a lesson on hair do, but I miss it. I was not present on the day they have that class in the church.
I like my hair down to cover my neck but when it is not newly wash , I put it up when I am in a hurry. I wash my hair almost everyday, and may be that dammage my hair. If you have a problem with your hair sister, I do have too. Welcome to the club.

OK here is a VERY EASY, yet nice hair-do~~
Pull your hair back into a ponytail, using a elastic rubber band to secure it and making sure its up high enough (close to the the crown) Now, take a section of that ponytail and clip it aside for now. the part that is left hanging down, you twist and twist and twist,(almost like a french twist) securing it with bobbi pins...now take the remainer of the hair and curl it with Hot Sticks using as many as you want. Once it curls are set..you remove each hot stick. Each curl you make even more curls with by separating and twirling with your finger When you are down you have nice *do*
Goodness I made that sound hard but Im telling you its the easiest thing I have found to do. I have hair to my waist and people have said how do you get all that hair in that little twist and those curls. Its just easy!

I know this is a really old thread, but I thought since no one had answered you on how to do a Gibson hairdo, I would. This link will take you to an article that has links on how to do all kinds of old fashioned hairstyles: www.ladiesagainstfeminism.com/artman/publish/article_1262.shtml (http://www.ladiesagainstfeminism.com/artman/publish/article_1262.shtml)

Finally a good site for much on being ladies, especially hair.
BTW, the style that Sis Lani was talking about wa-a-a-y above in a post, with the twisting hair, etc....well I actually got to see this done this past weekend during the Hair Clinic I had mentioned that was to be part of the Sisters conference ...it was such fun! And although I have not yet tried what I learned...it is better to "see" it in action, saw how beautiful the model sisters looked..gave me hope! :D

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Ohhhhh Sister I too got lost in that site, couldnt find a resident road map. Thus I cut my losses, hit the close button, got a band and put my hair in a pony tail. hehehe. Some things look great and all praises to those that can work them out. I don't know it may be the accent with which it has been written. Sure looked double dutch to me.
Maybe one day some of you ladies will come visit, hehe I dont have much hair to work with.

tufluv, I seem to recall you saying your hair was frizzy. Have you ever tried Frizz Eaze by John Frieda? He seems to be devoted to helping people with your type of hair.
I used to complain about mine being straight. I won't do that anymore. I need to be grateful that I don't have to deal with frizzy hair!!

I love that site! I'm glad y'all like it too. It is actually my home page when I sign onto the internet. It is all about women's issues. They have things about hair, clothes, homemaking, mothering, feminism (obviously), and abortion. They are not totally opposed to wearing makeup or cutting hair, and they do not always live up to my standard of modesty, but I separate the wheat from the chaff, and there is A LOT of wheat :) .
