There is much teaching in the scriptures about the foundation.
Jesus tells the parable of the man who built his house upon a rock.
Luk 6:48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
Luk 6:49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
Jesus said, Upon this rock will I build my church. Upon the knowledge and testimony of Jesus Christ.
Paul said:
Eph 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
Eph 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone];
Eph 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
Eph 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
The house of God must be built upon the teachings of Christ and the apostle. It starts with the foundation. And yes, it matters what is built upon that foundation, but if the foundation isn't first right, the rest of the house will crumble under the power of the wind. And we know that wind is the wind of the Holy Ghost.
I like that old hymn
On Christ the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
Not long ago, the Puget Sound area [Tacoma, Seattle, Olympia] had an earthquake. Seattle and Olympia both sustained considerable damage, while Tacoma did not. They said that Tacoma is solid underneath, because it is built upon a bedrock. That is the church of God--no matter how much shaking comes, it wont fall because it is built upon a solid Rock.
