I love the written, spoken beautiful word of God.
I have been to meetings where all but the Word was lifted
up.People were there for a quick fix, a big shout,a total rush of
electrical Holy Ghost power but when the Word came forth sat down on it.I don't care how charistmatic a preachers personality s nor do I care how educated the minister is.Just preach the Word and back up the Word with your illustrations.I am have gone places and heard only one scripture and every body got out and shouted but left spiritually starving. One scripture and a big shout is not enough for me to say I had church.Ane believe me I am a shouter. When the Holy Ghost moves I could care less who is in the congregation.I love Jesus and focus only on him.But the word says we should worship in Spirit and in Truth. We need a balance.I left a meeting recently where I felt cheated out of the spiritual meal as all the minister did was give one scripture and exhort. Not enough. Then we have the blow and goers(just what I call it) who forgot that years ago there were no microphones and the preachers or speakers had to shout so the whole crowd could hear them. They are screaming so loud in the mics that you can't even make the sermon out much lest digest the Word of God unto you.And sadly we are responsible unto God for the word given to us.Thats not having church...its cheerleading at the local ball game...and I am not saying we don' t need encouraging from time to time but without the Word we will perish.God help us all because there is a famine of the Word .
Too much program and hype and not enough pure Word Of God.

I agree, Sis. Let everything be done decently and in order. I believe in shouting and dancing and all that goes with it. But the shout is not what keeps me, it is the Word that comes to my mind when I am facing trials, not the memory of yesterday's shout!

What did David say that he hid in his heart so he would not sin against God? The shout? No THE WORD!

Also, nice to see you again Light, I have not seen you for awhile.

I agree that there is a famine of the Word of the Lord. Many do not understand what it is to be spiritually hungry, deprived. They mistake hype for the anointing. Many are deceived.

I, too, am a worshipper. But I love the Word of God.

Thank God for the 'vitamins' like the GNC! :)

Sister Cooper:

The word is "insecurity."

Preachers all too often become addicted to audience response. Many feel that they need to blow and go until they are out of breath, sweat rolls down their face, spit gives the microphone a methodist baptism and the veins in their necks almost pops in a mixture of preaching and cheer leading. It is froth but little substance.

Since they have become addicted to audience response, they are under complusion to do the cheer leading so that the response will be enough to assuage or mitigate their insecurity. They feel that they are not being received nor do they feel that they are doing any good without the exhuberant response. They feel that they absolutely have to have that response or to feel like a failure.

Seldom do these type of preachers know how to stir the spirit by the spoken Word of God. Neither are they sensitive to the leading of the Holy Ghost. Given an opportunity, they would love to strut for a while, without regard to the undetected spiritual needs of his auditors.

It is really a great let down to travel for hours many miles, bring a sacrifical offering to help promote the cause of God, only to have egotistical preachers to froth and foam for a hour. It's enough to give you a headache and an acheing heart to match.

I do enjoy a fiery preacher that preaches under the anointing of the HOLY GHOST. Fiery, does not mean noise.............. what I am looking for is substance....... meat........... something that will sustain me and most of cause me to search the way i am living to see if it is pleasing to the Lord or according to his will and plan for my life...............

WHat you said is so true Bro. Adoniyah.......... I taught it was funny but you are speaking sound and true words.

Amen Bro.Strange,
Not very many services Bro.Cooper taught on Oneness. We have many new converts. The service was so thick with revelation annointing that almost every word he spoke caused you to think of multiple scriptures. Now he is not a shouter nor is he loud or jumps around but I could have gone home and done several bible studies off of leads from just that one message.I guess I am spoiled that my husband uses the word of God so much.He uses alot of bible text.It takes longer to sit through his teaching but you leave knowing alot of bible.Thank God.I think I would have stayed home and had service with Brother Cooper had I known how badly I would have fared on the long journey. But honestly the fellowship with the christians I went with and getting to see the faces of old friends was good for me.lv sis.c

I can identify with this thread soooo much from my present experience.

I don't know how it is in your English church services (but in my experience it is predominant in latin churches), but preachings seem to be louder in Spanish.

Spanish services ask for more "amens". "Amen" is asked commonly after every other sentence.

Or maybe the asking of "Pueden decir gloria a Dios?" which means "Can you say glory to God?".

Or maybe you have the reading of only a scarce few scriptures as a foundation and a multitude of present day analogies.

Not to mention these analogies are constantly bashing unbelievers left and right and magnifiying how lost they are rather than magnifying the Word.

My wife and I really get sick of it.

We leave practically receiving no life. Just a ringing in our ears.

We are fed by God Himself. His Word is sufficient to sustain us and all things pertaining to us.

I'm just learning that better now (after talking with Adoniyah ;)).

We might not have the ideal church situation to cater to our growing family, but our meat is to do the will of God.

That feeds us, in and of itself.

God's ministry through us, is very centered on family, but it marvelously compliments our family situation (season) right now as well.

Wife's duties are at home with the kids, but God gives her opportunity to minister to friends and family either by phone or gatherings in our townhouse.

We really don't have the ability to get involved in "church activities".

Been there, tried that, and failed when it was just one child. Now it's three.

Basically God has us ministering from home and sometimes He makes a way for us to go out and reach others.

But you are right. Thank God He birthed in me years ago to search things out for myself and see if they are true. I'm able to minister to my family and others because of that.

Now I'm trying to establish the discipline of prayer and fasting in my life. I have pretty much been dedicated to studying the word, but I have realized as of late that prayer and the practice of fasting is essential to minister His life and impart His touch.

Thank you for your prayers.

Amen,
The pastor who was my mentor for years told me over and over
that a person does not start out on a journey to deliver a message and arrive at the destination without one.First we must seek God for the message and then search it out and study and pray over it and cry over it and seek the mind and will of God.
An empty vessel has nothing to give.No matter how lovely it is sitting there on public display sooner or later it shall be called upon to deliver the needed good and if its empty oh how empty it
will be.People are so hungry for bible and spiritual depth that can only come from the bible itself.God has to open our understanding of the scriptures.Once you have tasted of th divine revelation that only comes from God himself nothing can compare no matter how loud or how eloquently delivered.lv sis.c
