Hi everyone,
I have been reading alot lately about toxins in our everyday
enviroment.I was unaware of how many things we come in
contact with that contain cancer causing chemicals. One of the things is plastics.I am so glad that just this year I switched to glass glasses. Before I had alot of plastic ones.It might take me awhile but I am changing my stuff into more natural type home furnishings.lv sis.c

You know, I've often been skeptical about plastics, they just can't be as hygienic as glass.
And another thing is chlorine! Which is found in our city waters, with which we DRINK, shower with, cook with, etc.! I've heard it is a subtle, yet high contributor to cancer (skin?cancer) and other types cancer.
I have or had, an article regarding this very thing, and it was shocking! I had sent it to various people as well. I'm not sure if I still have it or not (was on my old computer), I'll look for it, if anyone is interested.
SMILE!;) everyone. There's a HEAVENCAM on us at all times!

I have heard the same thing Searching. I use a filter on my kitchen faucett that supposedly takes a lot of this out of the water. I also use one on my showers I purchase from a company called Living Water, that was invented by a Scientist that is an expert on air and water. I understand he went to Kuwait to help clean up the polluted air over there after the war. So I do believe he does know what he is doing. I wish I could afford to buy one of his water filtration systems for the entire house, but cannot. But if you can, and are intersted, sign up on their downline program, as you can get their products a whole lot cheaper if you do. I am signed up, because I do buy from them, but am not really trying to sell any of them. So I am not recommending them to you to sell you anything. :D

They also sell a water filter for the kitchen, but I don't have one of those either. But I do have one of their older air cleaners for my home, and highly recommend their products. but the shower filters are not that expensive and worth it to me, as I am allergic to clorox, and Chlorine is nothing but a glorified type of clorox to begin with. In fact I understand the community I live in uses clorox in place of chlorine in the water. And it is very yukky tasting too if you do not filter it at all.

I am sure there are other companies, but this one I do know something about anyway. There big water system for the home does not use salt in it either, like all the rest of them I know of do, which is why I wish I had one,.

SANDY:
Not to be picky or anything, but you mistakenly called me Searching, which is okay, I like her much :D, BUT, it WAS moi!
You're forgiven. As for that info, thanks!
I think it may be out of my price bracket as well, BUT, its amazing how simple everyday things we take for granted can be BAD for us! Gosh, its frustrating!
Almost "can't win for losing"! We need to pray all through our homes regularly, even autos, for it seems there's no end to the ways the EvilOne infiltrates our daily lives! :realmad:

Sister Sandy I am interested in those house water filter systems as well.I don' t want the extra salt either.People wonder why the water is chlorinated but it has to be because of all the city pipes it goes through.I once heard this....the chlorine is like the wrapper on a bread. You want to eat the bread not the wrapper so you must first remove it.So I do have a water filter but really want to drink distilled as much as possible. There is a neat filter advertised on www.lovetolearn.net in the section on home appliances which is the best price wise I have seen.It is stainless steel. Check it out.lv sis.c

Common Food Additive Could Increase Risk Of Parkinson's

The Health Sciences Institute e-Alert

April 10, 2003

************************************************** **********

Dear Member,

The study of Parkinson's disease may have just taken an important leap forward with a new study that reveals a clue as to exactly who may be most at risk to develop this extremely debilitating disorder.

But whether you're in a Parkinson's high-risk group or not, there's one very common food additive you need to be aware of that may intensify the symptoms of Parkinson's while causing a wide variety of neurological problems for those who don't have the disease.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Variation on a gene
-------------------------------------------------------------

Could an inherited defect in cell mitochondria (an important energy producing component of the cell) make people more vulnerable to Parkinson's disease? This is the question researchers at the Duke University Medical School asked when they designed their study, which they say is the first to recognize genetic risk factors for Parkinson's.

As reported in this month's issue of the American Journal of Human Genetics, the Duke researchers examined 9 well-understood gene variations in 609 Parkinson's patients and 340 control subjects that showed no signs of the disease. One gene variation, called "J hapologroup," was found to be much more common in subjects that didn't have the disease. Furthermore, the variation was more common for those in groups (such as Caucasian females) that tend to have a lower incidence of Parkinson's. Their conclusion: The inherited J haplogroup gene variation would appear to be protective against the cell mitochondria defect that's typical of Parkinson's patients.

Although encouraged by their breakthrough, the researchers noted that because all of their subjects were Caucasian, additional biochemical and genetic studies will be needed on a wider variety of ethnic groups to fully understand exactly how the J haplogroup variant manages to protect cell mitochondria.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Not created Equal
-------------------------------------------------------------

In a Duke University press release, the lead author of the Duke study, Jeffery Vance, M.D., discussed the difficulties of researching a disease as complex as Parkinson's, which is caused by both genetic and environmental factors.

Dr. Vance didn't go on to name what those environmental factors might be, but studies have shown that pesticides may be a very likely cause, as well as possible toxins in processed foods. And according to a growing body of evidence, the primary toxin among food sources is the popular sugar-substitute aspartame - better known by its brand names: Equal and Nutra-sweet.

In an e-Alert I sent you last month ("Choose Your Poison" 3/6/03) I told you how aspartame has been shown to make the unpleasant symptoms of Parkinson's even more severe for those who have the disease. That of course is bad enough, but it seems that aspartame can also trigger reactions in otherwise healthy people. In some cases these reactions mimic the symptoms of Parkinson's, as well as multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and fibromyaliga, to name just a few.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Raging hormones
-------------------------------------------------------------

In 1994 the Department of Health and Human Services released a list of more than 60 reported adverse reactions to aspartame, including: chest pains, asthma, arthritis, migraine headaches, insomnia, seizures, tremors, vertigo, and weight gain.

The surprising item on that list is "weight gain," given the fact that aspartame is the sweetener used in most diet sodas. In fact, according to one study, aspartame may actually STIMULATE appetite, prompting cravings for calorie-rich carbohydrates.

But weight gain is nothing compared to some of the horror stories out there.

On an HSI Forum thread titled "Fear The Turtle," a member named John shares some of the details of how a steady intake of diet soda prompted a debilitating hormonal reaction to aspartame. The details are no less than tragic, although John was fortunate enough to discover the source of his physical and neurological disorders in time to take the necessary action to nurse himself back to relative good health. I say "relative" because apparently he will never fully return to the robust health he once enjoyed.

John's story is fascinating, and you can read the full account of his case history (along with several others) on a web site called "Aspartame Poisoning Information Site" (www.aspartame.ca).

-------------------------------------------------------------
Poison by the liter
-------------------------------------------------------------

The cause of most or possibly all of these adverse aspartame reactions is methanol. When aspartame is combined with the enzyme chymotrypsin in the small intestine, methanol is released and breaks down into formaldehyde, a potent neurotoxin. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency considers methanol to be a "cumulative poison" and recommends a safe consumption of no more than 7.8 mg per day. If you drink a one-liter beverage containing aspartame, you ingest 7 times that amount - about 56 mg of methanol!

But it gets even worse. Because if the product containing aspartame is heated to a temperature above 86 degrees Fahrenheit, "free methanol" is created, speeding up the absorption of methanol, and magnifying the effects of the neurotoxins. Nevertheless, in 1993 the FDA approved the use of aspartame in food items such as gelatin desserts that require heating well over the 86 degree range.

The result? People are hurting - people like John, whose life will never be the same. According to the FDA's Adverse Reaction Monitoring System, approximately 75 percent of all complaints received about food additives are aspartame related. That's right: 3 out of every 4! And yet the FDA still refuses to acknowledge the evidence that aspartame is essentially poison.

You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows, and you don't need a federal agency to state the obvious: Don't drink the aspartame.

...and another thing

Is cabbage beautiful? To a nutritionist it is. Not quite as glamorous as the tomato or as elegant as the carrot, cabbage is, nevertheless, nutritionally gorgeous.

In yesterday's e-Alert I told you about the interesting misconception of "vitamin U." That was the name given to the juice of cabbage cores - a treatment that's reported to quickly heal various stomach ulcers. And although vitamin U (from the "u" in "ulcer") has not been formally recognized, there's no question about the high nutritional value of cabbage.

One of the cruciferous cousins in the vegetable family, cabbage has an excellent ratio of calories to nutrients - that is: low in calories, high in nutrients. With good amounts of vitamins C, A, and B6, cabbage is also an excellent source of calcium (as an HSI member pointed out yesterday), phosphorus, and choline, which helps maintain the neurotransmitters that support memory.

Cabbage also contains three important phytochemicals (plant chemicals that assist in disease prevention): sulforaphane, indoles, and phenolic acids, all of which are believed to help impede the production of cancer cells, as well as decrease inflammation.

If there's a health drawback to cabbage, it would be the remote chance that it could inhibit your body's utilization of iodine - a potential problem for those with abnormal thyroid function. But this would only be a concern if you were eating an excessive amount of raw cabbage.

So the next time you cruise past the vegetable stalls, don't let those flashier veggies distract you from the lowly, but oh, so nutritious cabbage.

To Your Good Health,

Jenny Thompson

Praise the Lord!! Have you ever looked at what goes into your toothpaste??!! We absorb things much faster when taken into our mouths and sucked under the tongue. That is the reason people with heart problems put that pill Anginine under their tongues. The stuff is absorbed straight into the blood stream. I didn't know that till I looked up what some of those big names mean and where they originated from. I am now using toothpaste with out the bad stuff in it and feel alot better.
Something else I have learned about this month is all about the good old Soya drinks, replacing dairy. Well, I was a bit of a sucker really and I had doubts about the goodness in the carton, and then someone sent me information about it and why is was made popular in the first place. Not a nice story and ladies, we had better watch out if we are drinking it. Apparently it does things to our hormones and when it is time for our mid life change the change is more drastic than it need be. Would anyone like information on that? Very interesting readin.
i am enjoying this thread.
Some one said in one of the earlier posts that you couldn't afford some of the things you really need. My motto is that if you do your best, God will do the rest. I am trying to do my best and I trust God to know what I am not able to do and He will step in if needed.
We are walking time bombs!!! Better go. Look forward to coming back and reading more.

Burning,
I started using a toothpaste made by a company named
J/A/S/O/N.It has coq10 and vitamin c in it.There are also other milks besides soy. There is rice milk and almond milk.I understand that Almond Milk has the much needed protein whereas rice does not.Not to mention that I also saw goats milk in the local walmart dairy case.We need to balance the soy as too much can affect your hormones as well.lv sis.c

Sister Ddc, Do you mean Soy as in the stuff you drink from a carton or something similar, or the tofu, soy beans and the other 'natural' soy you get? I try not to drink it at all now. But I do have the tofu and watch out for the GM stuff. I had forgotten about the Rice and Almond milk, I am not a fan on Almonds but will give it a try. You can acquire a taste for things if you keep at it. I miss my summer fruit in the mornings. In Australia we are going into the winter months now and find it hard to get natural fruit for breakfast time. My three year old loves fruit for her breakfast but don't have much around. We are having cereal or porridge with dairy, which annoys me no end, but will see if my husband will get some Almond milk to try.
The toothpaste I have is from New Zealand and it has no additives, perservatives or colourings or sugar in it. They have thrown in Tea tree oil which makes it a funny colour and has a liquoricey taste to it. Sara and I like it. (She is my 3 year old).
The more I find out the things that people do to our food and do to the things things we use for our bodies, the more I shake my head at how niave we are to be trusting other people for our health needs. We should be more watchful. I am hoping that people will wake up soon before it is too late.
Must go get some sleep.

Burning.

Chlorine has to be in the water to kill the bacteria that is in it....I live in a very small town and our chlorine has to be checked almost daily. BTW I work for the water office part time......:)
God bless
P.S> That is true about using clorox in the water. If our chlorine would ever get below a certain number in a emergency we would do that. We have never had to yet. Our water is chlorined by the district we buy it from... Just some water trivia :)

[ ] The Ultimate Deception
The #1 cause of death today is not heart disease or cancer
Written by Dr. Helena Toth Hardy, N.D., C.N.C.,

Heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes and most of the other major killers in society today can be classified as "diseases of the uninformed." They are nontheless lethal but only to those who have not heard about prevention and natural cures. Unfortunately, this includes your loved ones and friends as well as the great majority of the Western world.

“Heart disease kills nearly
1,000,000 Americans every year!
That's 2,600 Americans that die each day or
1 person every 33 seconds.”
American Heart Association

In the United States the number of people with chronic conditions is growing at an alarming rate. A chronic condition is one that lasts a year or longer, limits what one can do and may require ongoing care. Examples of chronic conditions are diabetes, cancer, glaucoma and heart disease. More than 125 million Americans have at least one chronic condition and 60 million have more than one. (1)

In 2000, 20 million more people had one or more chronic conditions than the number originally estimated in 1996. By 2020, the number of people living with chronic conditions is foreseen to rise to 157 million and direct medical costs are expected to double to more than $1 trillion (80 percent of the nation's health care spending). (2)

We are living in the age of fast food, chemicals, and inactivity. Each day our bodies are exposed to deadly pesticides, herbicides, preservatives, coloring agents, artificial sweeteners, hormones, antibiotics, environmental pollution, toxic chemicals, food irradiation, genetic engineering, and countless other relatively new health hazards. Considering the chemical-soup we live in, the above statistics are not surprising in the least.

The truth is it is becoming more and more expensive and difficult to avoid the exposure to deadly toxins in our food, water and environment. Even sadder is the fact that most people don’t even know or care about the potential dangers lurking around them. They blame their illnesses on factors beyond their control and refuse to take responsibility for their own health. They rely on the newest “wonder drug” to erase all their troubles and continue treating their bodies like garbage disposals. On the other end of the scale, a much smaller group of people are waking up and shunning the “marvels” of modern society, turning instead towards holistic and natural living.

A world divided
I feel that in the decades to come, our world will become completely divided in two.

Some people will live their lives following the “mainstream” and eating only junk and processed foods served by convenience while sitting like comatose before the T.V. set believing every word of the “unbiased” media. They will build and furnish their houses with toxic materials, spray their yards with deadly pesticides, clean their homes with hazardous chemicals, drink polluted water, feed their families dead poisonous foods, and take harmful drugs at the first sign of their bodies rebelling against all the attacks. These people will be sick and lethargic, watch their children suffer through childhood and school, and experience an early and painful death. These will be the patients of today and tomorrow.

The other group, that is starting to emerge, will go completely against the grain in every respect. These people will build and furnish their homes with natural materials, use organic cleaners and pesticides, eat wholesome organic foods, drink pure water, spend a lot of time in the fresh air, engage in regular physical activity, and turn to nature when they’re ill. They will be disease-free, happy, energetic, full of vitality and live a long and fulfilling life. Their children will be healthy, joyous, fit and smart. These will be the healers of tomorrow – taking care of the others.

Patrick Holford, Director of the Institute for Optimum Nutrition in London and the author of the Optimum Nutrition Bible, makes this point very clear:

"Tomorrow's medicine will not be about using nutrients instead of drugs. It will be about looking through a new pair of glasses which reveal the true causes of disease. In most cases these lie in faulty nutrition, pollution, stress, negativity, addiction and lack of exercise - the greatest cause of all being ignorance. The original meaning of the word 'doctor' is ‘teacher or learned man’ and that is perhaps the most important role a health professional can perform.”

Current research indicates that the foods we eat influence tremendously our susceptibility to cancer, heart disease and other chronic health conditions. Generally, high fat, low-fiber, animal-based diets are thought to increase the risk, while plant-based diets - high in fresh fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and minimally processed starchy foods - can help prevent disease. But diet is not the only factor. Degenerative diseases actually have three main causes: malnutrition, incomplete digestion and internal pollution. These are reversed by nutrient enrichment, improved digestion, and regular detoxification.

Nutritional therapy is a holistic discipline; nutrition as the key to good health is the all-embracing fundamental principle used since the time of the famous Greek doctor and founder of Western medicine, Hippocrates, to help people of all ages stay at their personal peak of energy and vitality.

In our modern world the importance of optimum nutrition was reintroduced in 1968 by one of the greatest minds of this century, twice Nobel-prize winner Linus Pauling. Pauling coined the term Orthomolecular Nutrition. "Orthomolecular" is, literally, "pertaining to the right molecule". Pauling proposed that by giving the body the right molecules (optimum nutrition) most disease would be eradicated

"Imagine the publicity if someone announced that they have developed a new treatment that cured 40 percent of all people with cancer. The media would be jumping up and down. That kind of benefit can be achieved today just by following a vegetarian diet. Right there you have an answer and no one's listening."

-Oliver Alabaster, M.D., Director of the institute for Disease Prevention, George Washington University, Washington, D.C.

John D. Potter, M.D., Ph.D. has some suggestions on how we can maintain control over our health. He writes the following in February issue of the New England Journal of Medicine:

”There is an interesting dilemma for those who would influence nutrition. In many places in the world, there are governmental agencies concerned with food security, food safety, agriculture, health, and trade that may, from time to time, implement policies that are at least intended to reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Most often, when the goals of agriculture and human health clash, it is the will of the agriculture sector that prevails (remember the European Union's ‘butter mountain’ and ‘wine lake’?). In the United States, perhaps more than anywhere else, this has left an opening for self-help nutrition books. In a land where individuality and self-reliance are valued above many other virtues and where disease is sometimes seen to be a mark of personal failure, gaining access to the best data on health-related food consumption may be central to maintaining control over one's health.”

#1 cause of death
So what is the #1 cause of death today if it’s not heart disease? It is lack of information! Armed with the right knowledge we can live a healthy and rewarding life and avoid deadly diseases that threaten our chance of living life to the fullest. There are numerous resources available for us to learn about optimum nutrition and holistic living. There are thousands of books and videos on the subject and also some wonderful home-study programs. These programs serve not only to improve the quality of your life but also place a powerful tool in your hands with which to help others. Taking a course in nutrition can save you a lot of time in doing your own research as it already encompasses the most important and most up-to-date information in this field.

The question, therefore, is not whether you can afford to invest time and money into learning about nutrition and healthy living. The real question is: Can you afford not to?

Isn’t a lifetime of sickness and suffering too high of a price to pay for lack of information? In my opinion, if the doctors of today don’t become nutritionists, then the nutritionists will become the doctors of tomorrow.

Do any of you have skin problems that you would like to see cleared up.I read that the skin can be a direct result of toxins in our colons.I was told that if you detox your colon many of your skin problems will clear up.Also that there is a certain type of parasite that attatches itself to the hair follicle (not scabies or lice) and burrows deep down inside the hair shaft causing acne breakouts.Has anyone else read this?

Sandy

Do you have one of those stainless steel water filters? And if so, do you have to replace anything in it so that it does filter properly, and if so what is the cost and how often? As that is quite a bit less expensive than I can even buy from EchoQuest.
I am asking because they did not give a lot of info. on how that one works on the HP, and was wondering if you might have it, and therefore have first hand info on it. As often if you call, they are more interested in selling to you than giving you a lot of info.

The household filtration system from EchoQuest I was talking about though I would love to have, is a system that is for the entire house, and it does not use salt at all, which all of the others do I have ever heard about, but is based on the same principle as the one they sell for the kitchen only. If I ever get the money to buy that one I would do so. As it would cost me no more than some of the more expensive ones that do use salt, yet supposedly purify the water as well. My husband does not like the ones with the salt to even bathe in at all, let alone drink. My daughter has one of them she rents in her home because of having so much lime and etc. in their water, which destroys your appliances. And even though it is made so that not much salt is used somehow, like Culligan and some of the others, it still uses some, which you can tell, which Al does not like at all. Yet if she bought hers, it is just almost as expensive as the one from EchoQuest.

That is one I have never heard of regarding the parasite in the hair follicles. What would get rid of that anyway? I don't break out anymore much, but did for years. But I always attributed it to the fact that I had very oily skin and hair, which I figured was caused by an overabundance of estragin being produced in my uterus for many years, which was supposedly the cause of my having uterine cancer. At least that is what I was told anyway. But after I had the hysterectomy, they recommended I not supplement with the estragin and progesterin, which they evidently give many people after having a hysterectomy. am interested in knowing more about that one anyway. As I have never heard of it until now.

They say that many diseases are caused from toxins in the digetstive tract anywhere though.

Also, why is it today there are so many people that are diebetic compared to yesterday? My theory on that, concerning type 2 diebetis, which most adults have, is the wrong kind of diet that causes the pancreas to overwork and break down eventually. Which would be overeating sugar and white flour products which are addictive, but turn to sugar. And probably a lot of processed foods that have all of these additives in them too.

We are in a whirlwind effect. Today most all women work outside of the home to help support the family. Consequently most of them do not take the time to cook unprepared foods. So we have gotten into the habit of going the grocery store and buying all of the stuff that is prepared for us already, that are mostly totally unhealthy. Not realizing that this is killing us off one by one. I know I am very guilty of doing this for years even when I have not worked outside of the home. Simply because it was easier. And never considered how unhealthy it really was until lately. This is part of the reason that many people are overweight today most likely. And they are according to statistics.

Hi Sandy,
I was blessed that Pastor Cooper cooked supper for me tonight.
We are truly partners in life.I married my friend. Thanks God for
that.We purchased a NSA water filter. They also have the house systems I have heard. We need to replace it.It uses silver.
Also another good brand is Rain Soft. They are an osmotic type
system.I believe they do use salt to backwash though.I really
don't want salt added.lv sis.c

Hi Annie,
It used to be an excepted practice when a person got sick
to flush out their colons. Here is a link that may help you.

Our colons become sluggish due to poor diet and or medications
we take.Also a lack of exercise.I personally do a day a week
juice and water and rooibos tea.I drink alot of water during this
time.Sometimes when these things are flushed out they
make us break out.but thats normal.I have lately been
reading about colonics. Its a procedure that flushes out your
colon and then you are better able to absorb the vitamins

Make sure you don't see toxin's as though they are demons. I have seen people so overwhelmed by worrying about toxins they became fanatical.

We all want to believe that we are exorcising demons but "toxins" are not the biggest threat out there.

Respectfully,

Dave

Don't worry Dave we won't throw your brain into toxic overload. But at least we can agree that toxins are something in the body whether you have the Holy Ghost or not....lv sis.c

I know they are there indeed, but they are not my demons. Unless ofcourse I eat 2 bowls of chili that day. It doesn't take long before I know that something is trying to get out.

I also try to buy organic meat and dairy. Not sure how up you are on Factory Farming, but it's a frightening process.

Amen Sister.I went to a site and saw some pictures that were horrible.I don't have to worry our area is a big farm community. There are also alot of cattle ranchers and you can buy country eggs from free range chickens. There is a slaughter house not far from me.But I don't actually eat much meat.I mostly do veggies and fruits.lv sis.c
