His NAME is Jesus!
According to the 'world': "You know that the princes of the gentiles like to exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise autjority over them..."
The world likes to lead by control. They have found that the greatest control is an obedoence volunteered by the follower. Therefore they will manipulate events, etc., in order to effect and justify asking for this obedience.
According to scripture: [I]"But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever shall be great among you, let him be your minister; and whosoever shall be chief among you, let him be your servant."
We are all (Jesus NAME believers) children of the Most High and have been "dressed" in robes of righteousness, and have a right to sit at the table and be waited upon. However, our "leaders" have been asked to doff their royal garbs and be dressed in a servant's robe. The true leader delights in this role.
It's the Gospel, Church!

Good leaders help their people be the best they can be. They lead by example, develop & train their people, care for them. As the Bro. said, it is being a servant to their people.

A leader is someone with at least one follower. Maybe we can discuss what makes an effective leader.

Most people don't know what makes an effective leader. Anyone who has studied "Leadership" (college) knows that their are several theories.
Of the theories, I like the Trait theories. These are traits that can be emulated. For example: trustworthiness, honesty, integrity, loyalty, etc...
We can include Godliness, uprightness, any Godly characters that lend themselves toward leadership. Basically this, a good leader must emulate characteristics that others like. A basketball athlete may feel like Michael Jordon is a good leader, whereas a christian should feel like their pastor is a good leader because he portrays the characteristics of God.
Here's my take. A good leader motivates people to go forward, to take initiative. Their are several ways a leader can do this. First of all, we must include the follower into the bigger picture by including them into the overall vision. In other words, make them feel like they are playing an important role. A follower, in order to be a good follower, must buy into the greater vision and see it as a vision of their own.
For example, many people don't want to do door to door outreach. However, if we can show them the greater vision of souls getting saved and they can see this vision for themselves. Then it becomes part of them. They then have a true desire which sparks motivation and passion. Take for example the door to door person who didn't really want to do it. He will walk slower, talk less enthusiastically, etc...
Ok, I have no end to leadship. There is just too much I can say on the subject. There is no check list to go by to be a good leader. It is something that has to be learned through time and study can always help.

No followers, no leader.
This is true, but the question that you posed in a prior post was how to lead effectively. In other words, how do we get others to follow.
"By example" is a common method used. However, I think true leadership can go further than this. Not only "by example" but also by leading from behind not from in front.
The American philosophy of leadership has always been a triangle. At the top is the leader who is over every one. But, if we turn the triangle over the leader is now at the bottom. His new goal is to encourage others and to empower others by equiping them with the proper tools.
Lets turn this into the church environment now. A church leader helps others reach their own aspirations (if they are founded on God). Example, if I was a leader over a prison type ministry and I had a few followers who felt a calling in that area. My job would be to equip them and allow them to be used in that ministry in which they feel called.
There are two ways to start off with the above example.
1. This is the way we do and you will do this
or
2. This is how we've been doing it, but I would like to hear your ideas, maybe even incorporate them into what we already do.
In number 2 the follower is empowered to follow his own ideas under the guidance of a leader. This follower will have much more motivation and zeal to do jail ministry, because it is now not just the churches vision but his also. The follower, in turn, will go to the leader and say, "this is the direction I want to go, what do you think?" The leader can then lead the follower by encouragment, and also equip him to go in that direction.
In number 1 it would be "sorry, that is not the way we do it."

The u.s.army I believe has a good defintion of leadership. They sent me to an academy to make me into one:yeah:
LEADERSHIP: THE ART OF INFLUENCING OTHERS SO AS TO ACCOMPLISH THE MISSION
I believe our 'mission' is to direct/train souls into the pathway of salvation. Our 'ability' is from God via the power of the Holy Ghost 2 Cor;5 11. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men;
Please have mercy on me...I a 'newby' here:bow:
