I am raising my children alone and thought I had found a job that I could support them on. I am a licensed RN and was told in February that I had a job if my references and background check was approved. I went through all these with flying colors and then passed my physical and drug test as of last Monday and was told that I would be starting work April 5. Then last Wednesday they called me and told me that since I had been out of hospital work for over 10 years I would be required to take a nurse refresher course before I could start working.

We are talking $600 to $750 dollars that I don't have. I don't even have the money to pay my rent this month. Please pray for a miracle for me and my family. I was advised to bring this to this forum. As an addendum, as of Friday my car is not working.

Many of them provide money for both living expenses & childcare while you are going to school. Contact your local colleges/universities and speak to the financial aid department; explain your situation and find out what they have to offer.

How long does the "refresher" course take? One semester? A full year?

As far as your car goes, is this something the men in your church can help with? In our church, I believe the pastor would probably call together a crew or something to work on the car pro bono, since you are a single mother.

I would have a heart-to-heart with your pastor right away. Although I am a firm believer that we are to take care of ourselves and not "lean" on the church for help in everything, in certain situations it is a good place to turn.

Also, not trying to be nosy at all, but if I knew [at the very least] what state you reside in, I'd be glad to look up some helpful resources for you.

I was on my way to Texas Workforce to see about getting help when my car broke down. I found 2 refresher courses on TX, none of them are local, both require 6 months on campus and both are approximately $750. I found one in SD that will allow me to take the theory courses online and will make arrangements for the clinicals locally. That one is $500. plus the textbook. This one is also a 6 month course, however, because it is self-paced they say that it is possible to complete in 3 months.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not to thine own understanding....

I'm praying for you and your situation. I know it's hard when you're in the middle of a crisis (and I wouldn't say this if I hadn't been there and seen God supply my needs when it seemed there was no way.) We try to work things out with our own logic and reasoning (preaching to myself here :) ).

But just trust in your Father ~ He cares and will supply ALL our NEEDS according to His riches in glory. Remind Him of His promises and thank Him.

I know this also doesn't mean we just sit there on our hands waiting unless we have to. There are places you can go to get assistance until things work out with your job situation. Methodist churches sometimes offer assistance, Goodwill maybe?, county agencies will help with one or two months rent. Call around and these agencies can direct you to the right place.
And, as Abigail stated and I agree, talk to your pastor. I'd do this first.

I did talk to him and was assured that God would provide.

Dear Lord Jesus,

I pray for Melody and her children now. She is seeking you, Jehovah Jireh, to provide all of her needs and those of her kids. I know you as the Ultimate Provider, always faithful to provide a ram in the bush, always able to make a way out of what seems to be no way. Lord, manifest yourself in this family's situation. As this woman is trying to raise godly children in a God-less society, I pray that You would make bear Your Arm and show those around Melody that You take care of Your Children. Show them that Melody does not need a Mack Daddy, but only You. She does not need to fret or worry, just trust in Your Provision. Show Melody favor as it pertains to employment, her church, her family, her home and even in her car situation-in every area of her life. You have done it for me, Lord. Now I pray that You do it for her. Let her be in the right place at the right time, ready to receive her blessing(s).

I thank You, Lord, that You are our Provider! Thank you for blessing this family with every provision, in the name of Jesus!

Amen!

Ooookay, NOW I understand...after searching thru all these threads- my question was answered...I am praying for you, Melody, because your situation is so close to my heart. I have a best friend in the same situation...hold on, and watch God work!

Dear Sister,
Physcians offices and cllnics are willing to take you without the refresher course. I hired a woman who took 8 yrs off to drive church school bus and returned to the nurse career. God will provide. Often the roadblock is the detour to where God really wants us to be. In my life career it has been that way and I find I am where I am the testimony for Him. Just keep praying--don't despair but speak faith--"I know God is providing--he promised to never leave me nor faorsake me--he said He would supply all of my needs." Quote the word out loud-there is power in the word of God and in your action of faith.
God bless you
