This Xerf individual has been a great blessing to the Cafe'. His one liners have diffused and abated potential hostilities, cause laughs and etc. So, I have wondered about the mysterious Mr Xerf.

What do you think?

Xerf
04-15-2003, 12:25 AM
Xerf is really a computer generated program devised by Brother John to interact with posters, especially trouble makers, and to deflate the pompous, encourage the weak, terrorize the bully, comfort the feeble, and defang the snappers (plus other less glorious chores such as sweeping out the hard drive and tweaking the ISP. Designed with amazing AI, it almost seems alive!)

Hmmm....?
Or, perhaps, as 1st prize, to have dinner with the infamous, real XERF his/her self?

XERF is a radio station down in Ciadad Acunia Cohilla, Mexico. That is just across the Rio Grande from Del Rio, Texas. True story.
But how does a radio station make so many dumb, crazy, outrageous, funny, wild, nutty comments.

I think krazy Tufluv and Xerf are one and the same. We really have a made for a prime time move material here. A really, really good "Who Done It" type of material.

In my post #323 above, I alluded to the fact that I had a good hunch it could be Bro.John, (having discussed this with a wise young sister here, although it was "iffy" since same person seems way too serious, :grumble: lol) and so, computer generation does sound most plausible! Yet, with any remaining shreds of doubt left, I proposed this very contest., although, the report just back from the FBI, indicated the prescence of "fraud"! Serious penalties for fraud, so I dropped the idea like a hot potato! :redcool:

I'd still rather keep the little guy around, as Forever said, he saves us money on Prozac? or lashing out at hubbies, or kids, or ? [don't forget the inconsiderate sunday drivers]! AND, that I also have a comedic brother, currently out on the "loose"! :eek:that could give XERF a run for his money!
Hopefully, he has not communicated with my twinsis, and knows
nothing about this place!

Top 10 clues I have uncovered about Xerf!!!

Nancy Drew speaks- :goof:

Post writing analysis suggests that Xerf shares characteristics in common with the following individuals:

1. Apostolic Man and Hebrews in ideology; but does't write long posts except on rare occasion.

2. Has wit and rapid one line repsonse similar to Faithchild, but the sarcasm somehow comes across a bit milder. Perhaps because its dished out all over?

3. Seems empathetic of others similar to Paulinfla and of peace keeping intent like Bro. Dane; although Xerf takes fairly benign jabs at people unlike Paulinfla or Bro. Dane.

4. Has at least the same breadth of word play and cultural awareness as Straitway. Interestingly enough, as she writes less, Xerf writes more.

5. Has excellent grammar skills and uses words similarly to Jlgroce.

6. Argues cultural relevance (when it comes to kissing believers as you meet them) as ThirdGeneration would.

7. High intelligence suggestive of Bro. John and can move into the atrospheric level.

8. Lives in Texas or at least the Southwest given that Xerf is a radio station across the Mexican border as Adoniyah has pointed out.

9. Calls himself Christopher in his profile at the old GNC.

10. Comes across as Apostolic given his signature! But is he really or does he have to wear a label to convince us that he is?!?

Hmmm....good food for thought! Inconclusive, but great analytical homework, Third!

Funny, have you ever seen a post from Serv addressed to Xerf, or from Xerf addressed to Serv? Why is it that when one's around, the other isn't. Kinda like when Superman shows up, Clark is nowhere to be found. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Serv :)

ThirdGeneration
04-15-2003, 10:13 AM
Oh Serv! I almost feel like Lois Lane!

Indeed, I do recognize that you have all the characteristic traits identified above.

Skimming the times things were posted gives crededence to your claim. And it would not be surprising that Bro. John would find your postings to be a blessing to the Cafe....

BUT unless your middle name is Christopher how could you identify yourself as such in the old profile? And what could have possessed a hillbilly from the Hills of Tennessee to come up with the name of Xerf?

tufluv
04-15-2003, 11:03 AM
Once again, inference to the ClarkKent/superman theory I proposed to XERF himself, we may be on the right track!
BUT the question remains: do we REALLY want to know?
I, for one, enjoy this "mystery"! and wish not to quash any hilarous-ness of this character.

I'm afraid I cannot believe this one. Based upon today's technology, this is not possible. For a technology based program to interact the way Zerf has requires for "him" to be able to "think" on "his" own and science has not made that break-thru yet. All "interactive" programs do so with prewritten commands and sayings.

IF Zerf were this "computer generated program" devised to interact with posters, THEN it should be possible for "him" to be able to be placed in a robotic body to interact with all humanity.

Logic dictates this to be an impossible fallacy. Either Zerf is a real person who is himself - OR - he is someone here on the Cafe in disguise.

IF Zerf were who he says he is, THEN I think I need such an interactive program installed in my truck...Like "KITT" (the Knight Industries Two Thousand) from the 1980's TV show "Knight Rider". That would be too cool, though, to have such an interactive car/truck like that.

Anyways, JMHO

I hear what you and AK are saying. However, consider this. If FC wanted to conceal his identity, he would have to try to be somewhat "opposite" of who he is; throw us off his trail. Who else do you know besides FC who like big fancy insulting words, phrases, and arguments besides Zerf and FC.

Granted, I still haven't ruled out that Zerf is just who he is, Zerf.

I was interested in the word "factotum"; here is what the definition is:

fac·to·tum
Pronunciation: fak-'tO-tum
Function: noun
Etymology: New Latin, literally, do everything, from Latin fac (imperative of facere do) + totum everything
Date: 1566
1 : a person having many diverse activities or responsibilities
2 : a general servant

Looks like "serv" is the Xerf.

It's amazing what happens in my absence! I personally think that Xerf is the spirit of the now deceased Wolfman Jack! Wolfman used to howl all night long on XERF, "This record 'bout as warped as my mind!" Thanks for the "kudos" regarding me but it's obvious that XERF's humor is a result of a lifelong diet of Fruit Loops, Revenge of the Nerd movies, Weird Al Yankovic albums and Jesse DuPlantis sermon marathons.

I'll sic the bloodhounds on this.

(Nawbee! Bill! Preacherotheword! Fresh meat!)

P.S. Drummer Boy Dave is as "flip" as XERF?

P. S. S. How about Stan Hallett? (*Don't tell him who Faithchild is.)

* For you that weren't here, Stan Hallett wasn't a fan of mine either. He kicked me and dozens of others off the board who didn't defer to him in his posts. It didn't matter whether he posted as himself or Admin, his ego couldn't take a challenge. We are much better off with the current moderators. XERF - Powerful radio station accross from Del Rio Texas in Mexico

Xerf - From Texas

Title "It is My Job" under his username

Short witty one liners - A must for a radio personality.

I figure Xerf is an announcer for XERF Radio. Changing them preaching tapes does make for lots of time on the good ole GNC.

Hows that for detective skills Nancy!

I'm curious about something. Why is it that Bro. John has such a facination with Xerf? Bro. John hasn't started any other thread questioning WHO any of the rest of us are.

While it is entirely possible that Xerf is just another person who has come to the Cafe like the rest of us, and this is just his Screen-Name, what IF Bro. AhA....Hebrews, lad, ya supose to THROW the cocktail--not drink it!

:)

All your conjectorizing is pure bunk! Brother John (makes me feel like Robin Hood to say that) HAVE NEVER conspired together about anything, right cousin John, errr, Brother John???

You Hebrews Hardy and your little friend Nancy need a new spy glass--it's elementary my dear Hebrews that your imagination jumped track at the last bend!

I deny these groundless (that means you are in mid air) charges and hereby state that Brother John is no fellow conspirator nor has ever been so..........I don't even know the man!!!!!

John Atkinson
04-16-2003, 06:48 PM
Weeeeell... I am basically peerless, which means the cause of justice probably would'nt be served anyway. If I did have any peers, they wouldn't be on trial for selling crack cocaine or beating their spouses, or robbing a convenience store.

Of course if they were in court for having storefront church services they would have a friend in the box. I'd hang that jury fer sure. (that is against the Law in New London, and in Norwich as well. We don't have a storefront church. We have a storefront media center, recording studio etc, and occasionally people get together and sing songs and hear the word of the Lord, and we record it :D We have never had a church service in this building. We have recording and taping sessions 4 times a week.)

Anyhow, 'scuse me while I go peer at something.

A man said that he had married an angel -
His buddy replied, "too bad, mine is still alive"
Oh No you don't get it, She really is an angel.
His buddy replied, "No woman alive is an angel so Prove It"

and as the story goes
He provided the following ThirdGeneration/FaithChild type proof;

O. K. I WILL NOW GIVE YOU FIVE REASONS WHY I BELEIVE THAT SHE IS AN ANGEL

# 1 - She is always Up In The Air About Something !

# 2 - She Is Always Harping About Something !

# 3 - She Never Has An Earthly Thing To Wear !

# 4 - and when I come home I see that She Has Been So Heavenly Minded That She Has Done No Earthly Good !

# 5 - She Always Serves Me Burnt Offerings For My Meals !

I am told of a man {wheither xErf or not xERF}

- he even put axel grease in the motor

and waited for a dark rainy night to sell it.

He sold that car to an unsuspecting victim
- and his wife questioned him as follows;
'how can you call yourself a christian
- when you sell somebody a car like that ?
She said, "I suppose you have a scripture to justify that"

And you just couldn't leave it buried in it's 6 year old grave could you?
:D

A thread from the glory days of the GNC, when stuff was actually happening around here.

I know who Xerf is and it wasn't me. But we will never tell.

It was a nice walk down memory lane. One of the posters in the thread has passed away, some no longer live for God, others still post elsewhere.

Some have just vanished...

Those were the days. This place was hoppin' then, had as much activity here as AFF does now. I kinda killed it by being to heavy handed in my stands for truth and holiness. Something I don't regret. Even a little.

I still wish there was activity here, but not at the cost of compromising what I know to be truth.

If it was like AFF, I wouldn't spend much time here. There is way to many compromising, and I do appreciate your stand for truth.

I disagree. I think you would have been right in the middle of it all. There was such a variety of posters here and we had a lot of fun. Since you didn't know Jim Yohe, you just wouldn't understand the dynamics and his offerings to this forum, in spite of his being the poster most banned from here....LOL!

I sure miss him. AFF doesn't compare to what this place once was or even what FaithChildForum was when Jim was alive.

He was a person that would have you so aggravated while he rattled your cage, but in the end, you realized how right he actually was, and he made you think outside the box.

We sure had fun 'back in the day'.

I did go accross the way and viewed the photographs from the recent Gathering.

Wonder why it wasn't renamed ' New Faith Child Forum ' or ' Faith Child Forum Revised' seems that would be much more appropriate than Apostolic Friends Forum?

a Xerf Thread in 2009? Wow! I thought he.... :)

I've been lurking around for a long time before I became an active poster so I know there was a forum member with that username and I remember him as a very funny and witty personality. But Bro JA said it best so I'm gonna keep my mouth shut.

I was just excited by the thought of seeing that name. It was like witnessing a resurrection happen before your eyes.... Now that's too much. I'm now sealing my mouth.

It is quite around here. And I too came on broad in those days of xerf and FaithChild.

But, I have little desire to rant just for the sake of ranting. Or debate with folks who just want to debate. I do like to debate issues, I think if nothing else it does help a person get their thoughts straight and make one think.

Yes. And it's difficult to keep up with the discussions when there are too many posters.

I signed up with this free ads forum where you earn points for every post you make. They call the pointing system Sulit Currency which you can use in exposing, prioritizing and featuring ads. It's so difficult to catch up when there are about 7000 to 10,000 users online at any given time. Some of the posters just post for the sake of posting. LOL. That is, to earn SC's.

Maybe Bro John could do something like that to encourage more participation from the members of this forum. The thing is, where do we use the points we earn? Perhaps, he could set up a virtual store where we could purchase virtual items to send as virtual gifts to fellow members.

vBulletin does have support for that. I just don't have the time to implement anything like that.

It was NFCF..then from what I gleaned, it was deleted..and then someone else started it up again, but as AFF.

I think the only relationship AFF had to NFCF is the founding members of AFF were members of NFCF. And the only relationship NFCF had to FCF was the owners of NFCF were related to the founder of FCF. FCF was founded by Bro Jim Yohe (Faithchild here, and Cyclops even earlier) with the assistance of myself and Bro Flemming. Then Bro Yohe passed away, time happended, things happened and FCF died and was born again as NFCF, again time happened, things happened and NFCF died.

I don't see AFF as a risen again NFCF, but as a standalone forum with it's own merits and with longevity. It isn't a powder keg waiting for someone to light a match, like one of the aforementioned was. but rather a prospering forum that is well run. I don't see it going anywhere soon.

Had Bro Yohe lived I expect the original FCF would be alive and well to this day.

On the whole I like AFF, and the people who run it. It has it's place in the grand scheme of things. I would post more there, but I don't have the time.

It brings back old sad memories of what was *sniff* and will never again be.
It WAS the funnest time though back in them my early years here., despite all the circumstances., this 'character' was THE BEST, I can and have gone back to re-read and still laughed all over again,
I wish I knew someone like him in real life., only my eldest brother comes close., and that'll have to do he IS one in a million.

I have not ventured to the other forums, one I don't have the time, two the energy to get spun up every day and three I don't know the r personallities on the other forums.

Over time I have a reasonable idea of where people stand here. On the other forums there are those who goal is to debate and convert everyone to their thinking.

We did have a New FCF, however, that was owned by Jim's sister and went defunct. Another one opened, but it's purpose was NOT to continue Jim's dream, but to have a place to continue posting and keeping contact with one another, basically.

One of the moderators already had a forum with the AFF name, and she allowed us to use that name to have another forum. Jim Yohe brought us together, but he isn't what keeps us together.
