I heard a preacher say that once. What is the point the caffeine?

Yes, that and along with the sugar and creamer.
Although, I would not go to that extreme.
You are better without it. There are many more detriments to your health drinking than not.
But it does taste good once in a while. Kinda like Coke.

Bro. Dave,
A while back there was a post about God & Israel after the Lord comes and picks His people up.
The Word does say that He will deal with Israel after his Church is taken up.
For Paul said, "that once the fulness of the gentiles come then all of Israel will be saved."
Then in the OT the prophet said, "then they shall see me whom they pearced," who pearced him if not the Jewish nation.
Now, I know that we(those baptized in Jesus name) are Jews those that are circumcission of the heart not of the flesh. Spiritualy speaking.
But the 144K in Revelation are full fledged Jews from the Tribes of Israel not from the Church for we dont have tribes in Church.
God Bless ALL!!

Dave,
Everything!!:)
I surprised my mom this morning and brought her a cup of coffee. I made it myself and was so proud. I anxiously waited to hear the verdict on the quality of the coffee.
Mom had never in her life had such a bad cup of coffee, and as she forced down the last sip she noticed three of those little green army guys in the bottom of the cup. She asked, "Honey, why would three little green army guys be in the bottom of my cup?"To which I replied, "You know maw... it's like they say on TV, 'The best part of waking up is soldiers in your cup.'

I have it from a solid source that Arab Dervishes used to suck up loads of coffee then worship Allah with the caffiene buzz.
Therefore drinking coffee is IDOLATRY, all you idolaters better quit.
Coffee was considered to be a sin by the catholics for some time, since arabs drank it, it had to be sinful. but the pope had a cup and decided the only real sin would be keeping it from people.
So I guess it isn't idolatry, a pope said so about 700 years ago. Brew it up!
Soooooooooooooo that's what that smoke is..............they are brewing java !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Explantion of smoke joke:
Holy Smokes!
Is that black smoke coming from the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican? One of the most famous traditions of the papal succession ritual is the appearance of smoke from the chimney of the conclave room. The eligible cardinals conduct a secret ballot until someone receives a vote of two-thirds plus one. The ballots are burned after each vote. Black smoke (straw is mixed with the ballots) indicates a failed ballot, white smoke means a new pope has been elected. Since the cardinals meet in isolation, it's the only way to inform the public about the proceedings.
During the coronation of a new Pope, flax is burned and the words Sic transit gloria mundi, "Thus passes the glory of the world," are recited. It's meant to represent the temporary nature of earthly glory. Popes come and go, but the papacy, sadly remains...................
John Atkinson
04-23-2003, 04:08 PM
Yes, that it is. Even as a catholic I used to be amazed at how God changed his mind about something everytime a new pope popped into place.
That was asn they call it ....a clue.
Interesting how one "infailable Pope" can do away with another "infailable Pope's" edict! No wonder Jesus said, "MY word shall never pass away....not one tittle or jot........will ever fail"
Thank God!! His Word is FOREVER settled in heaven!!

Coffee is a beverage that I enjoy, either freshly-brewed and decadently strong and hot... chilled and sweetened, with ice cubes clinking against the side of the glass... and iced to perfection and taken with a straw, but not too fast, hence the inevitable "brain freeze". :p
Coffee is something that I enjoy, I do not abuse it, and it does not interfere in my relationship with God. Bring it on!

I never heard of anybody running off the road and hitting a tree because they drunk too much coffee, but there might be somebody that beat up his wife because she didn't have his coffee ready.
I don't drink coffee, but I don't think it's harmful if taken in moderation.
I will give up my coffee when they pry it out of my cold dead hands, and besides once they ban coffee only the addicts will have it, and Mr. Heston and I like a good pot of java after a rally!! I have one every morning, then usually a cup of regular sometime in the afternoon. Depending on my schedule and evening activities I my get out the beans (never older than 2 wks) and grind up a fresh pot at nite.
I must stress that all of the above is done in moderation, and whenever possible I use one of my Pentecostal cup/mugs.
And now... .... shplurrrrrrr....splurrrrrrrrrrst...cwuewwwwlt. Would you care for extra foam on yours??

Well I used to drink lots of coffee.Louisiana is big on coffee. If you go to someones house its the first thing they offer you.Even before the gumbo. The problem is that its thick, dark and very strong. It will keep you up for days.I promise you sis.Wenona this stuff will not slow down your metabolism. It will definately cause you to clean the house right down to washing down the walls.
That is what I was doing all the time when my dear husband said,
"Honey, what have you been doing all day?" Outreach I replied.
"How many cups of coffee have you drank today." "Who knows!" I replied.(I didn't want to be offensive. To not drink their coffee means you feel like they are not good enough for you.)But I finally cut down to one cup a day occasionally.
I do need some who have given up coffee as a special committment for the Lord to do something special like a baby being healed etc.lv sis.c

Sis. Cooper:
Those who expect coffee at this Louisiana girl's house might get a surprise. We don't drink the stuff and don't keep it in our house.
Okay, well, I do drink it, but am a coffee snob. I only drink it hot IF it's an especially cold day and it's gormet (Mocha Almond, Hazelnut or French Vanilla). If it's iced I'll take it any time of the year if it's one of my flavors. Otherwise, it's nothing but liquid mud. Ick!
And I think Sis. Weona is probably familiar with the aroma of coffee filling her nostrils while passing over a particular bridge in New Orleans East unless she's forgotten. :)

Amen Bro. John, coffee isn't coffee with all those "pollutants" in it! I'll have a good thick black brew anyday! Even if it jumps out of the cup and slaps me!
Seriously though, I've never heard anyone preach against coffee...except the mormons...then again, I AM from Mississippi, and like DDC said...you get offered coffee there EVERYWHERE you go!
Anyway, there's my two cents! Que Dios les bendiga!

Ah the nectar of the bean is indeed a great thing. It offends my sensibilities that some philistine would stoop to dipping those glorious beans in vanilla or southern pecan or what ever flavor.
If I want vanilla, I'll have ice cream, if I want southern pecan, I'll have pecan pie.
But coffee should taste just like coffee. Gonna go make some right now....

Book of Java 1:1
Are you a Coffee Addict?
You know you are addicted to coffee if ...
You grind your coffee beans in your mouth.
You sleep with your eyes open.
You have to watch videos in fast-forward.
The only time you're standing still is during an earthquake.
You can take a picture of yourself from ten feet away without using the timer.
You've worn out your third pair of tennis shoes this week.
Your eyes stay open when you sneeze.
You chew on other people's fingernails.
The nurse needs a scientific calculator to take your pulse.
You can type sixty words per minute with your feet.
You can jump-start your car without cables.
You don't sweat, you percolate.
You walk twenty miles on your treadmill before you realize it's not plugged in.
You forget to unwrap candy bars before eating them.
You've built a miniature city out of little plastic stirrers.
People get dizzy just watching you.
Instant coffee takes too long.
You channel surf faster without a remote.
You have a picture of your coffee mug on your coffee mug.
You can outlast the Energizer bunny.
You short out motion detectors.
You don't even wait for the water to boil anymore.
Your nervous twitch registers on the Richter scale.
You help your dog chase its tail.
You soak your dentures in coffee overnight.
Your first-aid kit contains two pints of coffee with an I.V. hookup.
You ski uphill.
You get a speeding ticket even when you're parked.
You answer the door before people knock.
You haven't blinked since the last lunar eclipse.
I see your "point" disappeared...........or was that just a caffine moment I was having???????

How long has this coffee thread been brewing?
The History of Coffee.
AFRICAN ORIGINS (Circa A.D. 800)
Goats will eat anything. Just ask Kaldi the legendary Ethiopian (map) goatherd. Kaldi, the story goes, noticed his herd dancing from one coffee shrub to another, grazing on the cherry-red berries containing the beans. He copped a few himself and was soon frolicking with his flock.
Witnessing Kaldi’s goatly gambol, a monk plucked berries for his brothers. That night they were uncannily alert to divine inspiration.
History tells us other Africans of the same era fueled up on protein-rich coffee-and-animal-fat balls—primitive PowerBars—and unwound with wine made from coffee-berry pulp. Coffee later crossed the Red Sea to Arabia, where things really got cooking.
LOL.......haha!............. Wish I had said that!!

Lotta people goin' to hell if it is a sin! :)
People generally stay out of my way in the mornings until I have had my two cups of Java. I usually don't make it myself, I just head for the teachers lounge every morning.
My Dad used to spoon feed it to my kids when they were very little, so I already have addicts on my hands, they will swipe your cup of coffee and have it drank before you realize it is even disappeared.
Several years ago, my then husband took me to the ER because my heart was skipping beats so bad, I passed out. They ran all their tests, and finally told me after discussing my caffiene intake I needed to cut down on it.
It really does cause my heart to race when I have had too much. Must be my old age, I am just falling apart.
Nothing smells better than a pot of brewing coffee though!

They drank wine in the bible days with their meals, but the bible condemns drinking too much wine. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a good meal, although the bible condemns gluttony (what we'd call "pigging out").
Temperance is the key. A cup here or there is ok, but when it's an addiction that you can't live without, then you're a slave to your flesh and that's a sin.
WHAT????? I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!! I CAN QUIT ANY TIME I WANT!!!!!!!!!

This just serves as another example of how different Apostolics can be from region to region. At our church we hand the new converts espressos as they climb out of the baptismal tank. It helps take the chill off and goes a long way towards producing stammering lips! I would highly recommend that all try it.
To take something sacred like that and insinuate that it might be sin.... .... that really hurts, brethren, that really hurts.

We were building the church in Battle Creek, just working in the basemrnt and minding our own business
WHEN a couple of neighbor ladiec came over to fuss and complain about the construction noise. One elderly lady was very irate and it seemed as if no one could calm her down.
I had heard enough and I climbed up the ladder to talk with her. When I asked "Are you a Christian"- she replied "Yes, I've been a member of the Christian Church for over 45 years now". I told her that she should be ashamed of herself for carrying on and fussing that way. I also informed her that we were working on a church building and any fine christian lady like her would be bringing us refreshments such as coffee and donuts in the mornings, and tea and sandwiches in the afternoon. She left with a very huffy spirit.
At 10 am the next morning 2 cars pulled up to the church and 4 ladies got out and set uo card tables with "COFFEE and DONUTS".
She walked over to the basement and yelled "the coffee's on, come and get it". We came out of the basement for donuts and "CHICKORY' coffee. I took one sip, gagged, spit it out and yelled "you call this coffee ? It tastes like 'MUD' ".
Twice every day, until the completion of the church construction, these ladies would show up with refreshments and when they were ready they would yell at us in unison "The Mud's Here".
The best part of this true story was that we got to baptize all of them in the Name of JESUS.

What some people don't know is that Dan didn't even know that he was being picked as VP by Bush Sr. until just a day before. He wasn't even attending the GOP convention in New Orleans.
When Bush called the IRSCC to inform them that Dan Quayle HAD to be at the convention, it was my sister who booked his flight and made all his arrangements and flew down to the convention to over see the Indiana Headquarters there. We Hoosiers Republicans were pretty excited!
Quayle is a wonderful guy and actually very intelligent, but I have to admit, he sure made some bloopers as VP. What did they expect? He was just the Jr. Senator from Indiana??? :D

The year was 1977-
The place was in 'DADE" county near Trenton Georgia. Dade county is a poor, sparcely populated and located in the north west corner of Georgia with Lookout Mountian on one side and Sand Mountian on the other side. Due to lack of funding the entire county was policed by the sheriff's department which consisted of the sheriff, one deputy and one police car.
A known criminal was assassinated coming out of Tennessee late at night in a Black Lincoln town car. There were 27 bullitt holes found in the left door alone. Channel 9 T V News team out of Chattanooga was interviewing Sheriff Steel while shoowing the 27 holes in the drivers door. The reporter asked : "Sheriff Steel,
What was it that you think may have killed him ?"
The Sheriff calmly replied: "Counting these 27 bullitt holes I would say that it is the worst case of suicide that has ever been seen here in Dade County".

I just had to post this post by Sandy and my smarty-pants remark:
Sandy:
I just found out something else that we women are not to do tonight as well.
Are you ready for this?
Did you know it's a sin for a woman to make coffee? Yup, it's in the Bible. It says . . .
Ya ready for this????? Are you sure? OK!
The Answer is......"He-brews!"

Trivia:
Q: Why is all Arabic coffee produced in South America???
MORE TRIVIA ON COFFEE
Coffee is grown between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.
Coffee was first used as a food.
Coffee was found growing wild in Ethiopia. It was cultivated in Yemen, then in India, hence the name Coffea Arabica.
Coffee played a key part in the American Revolution. Daniel Webster urged Americans to drink coffee after the Boston Tea Party. The dictionary came later.
The only coffee grown on U.S. soil is from Hawaii and is called Kona. This aromatic coffee is a medium bodies, fairly acidic with subtle winey tones.
A mature coffee tree only produces 1-1/2 lbs of coffee per year.
At one time, coffee was used as a medicine. The coffee berries were fermented in water creating a wine.
The word Coffee, is derived from the Arabic word Ogahwao which translated means, "wine" or "excitement". Coffee became known in Europe as Arabian wine. This wine was made by boiling water and adding green. (unroasted) coffee.
The French philosopher Voltaire, reportedly drank in excess of 50 cups of coffee a day. Something to think about, huh?
Coffee is the #2 commodity in the world, second to only petroleum.
The United States consumes approximately 1/3 of the worlds coffee production.
The spread of cafes in Europe coincided with the Age of Reason. It was in these cafes that men discussed literature, science, economics and politics. Just imagine what great coffee can do for your office!

THanx, Bro.Steingass, for that clarification, on that "F" term., I had second thoughts about it after I posted, noting that suffix "nazi's"!!
I then figured it had to represent something 'brutal' and sho'nuff, you confirmed it....goodness, no! NOT I, of that persuasion...
As for coffee, IF I had the money (which I don't) I'd love to get me some Starbucks coffee!! Love that capuccino!! Mmmm...I can see where that might get addictive  !!
But, on a scale down, my home favorite is MAXWELL HOUSE, just as Bishop1 astutely commented "good to the last drop"...and that it is!
Black coffee is the way to go...occasionally a good capuccino is in order, but expensive, and my health can't afford to partake of sugar...only rarely..

Alright, here is a bit of serious advise for all you wannbe coffee connoisseurs. I don't mean to say you are amateurs etc. but if you are not grinding your own beans it does not speak well of you.
First you need a grinder - less than $10.00 at Walmart, for a small one. Then get your beans. Now, if you have a local coffee roaster ask what the lead time is to order your choice of fresh roasted beans, and order no more than 3 lbs..
However, it does not have to be these higher priced beans.
Fresh roast has something to do with the savor of your coffee to be sure, but trust me when I say that grinding your beans 30 seconds before brewing makes even a greater difference. . Get some Folgers beans (try to get some fresher ones at the back of the shelf)
After salvation, wife, and kids, freshly ground coffee beans are at the top of the list when it comes to God's generous impartations to mankind.
Sometimes he shows us that he loves us in the simplest ways.....

Interesting enough, the word "gormet" did not originate with the French word meaning "fancy eater," no, it was originally an Atrusian word that was coined when people sought to discribe certain people who walked around in a daze and pulled bugs off of trees and ate them on the spot and these same people picked corn and shook out the worms and threw the ear away.... so the word "grossmet" was coined--which in time became "gormet."

This fellow had just come to this country to work and they told him when you order breakfast just say, "milk & pie" so he did. After a while he got tired and heard of some others asking for "ham & eggs" so he not speaking very good english yet figured thats what I am going to ask for next time. Then a large 6ft lady came over and asked this tiny man what he would have and he mumbled, "ham & eggs" and she yelled, "what?" and he quickly replied, "milk & pie!, milk & pie!!"

He and I have a lot of common personality traits. We seem to be very reserved and quiet, but warm up to people when we get to know them. Both of us can talk up a blue streak though, when we feel comfortable. This stems from insecurities, especially when meeting new people. I am five years older, but don't tell him, we could switch ages, I look younger.
Listen, I have known him all my life, and can't read him half the time either now.
All I can tell you, is that he leans more conservative than Dad, and is death against TV, and isn't one who tolerates anyone going against the old ways.
For some reason, I just don't see the two of you becoming buddies! :D

My church still does P.Brittle. We have a large lighted sign out front letting the city know when it's for sale. Our church well known for it's excellent confection. Bro. Dave;
Believe it or not - -
When I evangelized and I also taught small churches how to make peanut brittle. I even carried a case of heavy aluminum pie-pans, 2 '5'gallon cans of corn syrup, a 6-pac of soda, a case of imitation vanilla, and a 125# bag of #1 spanish p-nuts with me.
My 'famos pentecostal brittle recipi' is published in all of our cook books.
In one instance I sold $3.00 worth of p-nut brittle to a gas station attendant and went 2 blocks around the corner and had to buy $3.00 in gas to get back to the church.

Our peanut brittle recipe was given to a family friend, Mom taught them how to make it. They started their own business with it. I have even bought the brittle on our local store shelf. It used to be called Dewey's Peanut brittle.
They now have a part of their business that makes it and sells it by the case to chuches. When we sell it now, that is the peanut brittle we use. They also make it in chocolate covered, and it is very good.

I went to a dear elder's house who is now gone on to be with the Lord. He was going to make some decaf coffee, but was out out of it. All he had was some coca cola to offer which was fine by me. However, he told me before I could drink it that he had to pray the caffeine out of it. I honored his request and allowed him to pray over the caffeine content. I really don't remember if I noticed any changes to my body's response. However, i do remember thinking wouldn't it be easier to buy caffeine free coke.

Simply amazing, some have come close to exposing the truth here and have even alluded to the base line principle of this topic. Some are even joking about the affects that coffee has on people. The same people will berate those that consume alcohol responsibly, and look upon them with deep consternation. But the bottom line is that caffeine IS a drug, a stimulant to be precise. So why all the justification? Because you like coffee. While true, it does not have the same potent affects as say cocaine or other amphetamines, it is still a drug. The affects have been adjusted to.
I can take this argument as a justification to consume wine based on the fact that I don't get drunk, and the beverage is low in alcohol content. Why is Nyquil ok, it has more alcohol than wine. Wine is better for you than, most water (because of chemical additives), coffee, coke, etc. If consumed in the appropriate quantities.
How can anyone justify that one is okay and not the other? Because they are not strong enough to exercise control and act responsibly. Their weakness is poured (pun intended) on everyone else. I do believe that if you cannot control yourself in something, stay away from it; that applies to all facets of life.
In regard to caffeine being a drug, would it be okay to take small doses of a legal amphetamine and mix it in water; as long as it didn't affect you adversely? Now I'm not being serious on the previous statement, nor would I expect anyone to crush diet pills into their water, it's the point I am trying to make. Justification of doing something because you want to, and you don't think it is wrong because of no serious side affects. But are there side affects? Ever fed your kid a candy bar and watched him/her bounce off the ceiling?
Sugar is a worse drug than caffeine. Look at the chemical formula for Cocaine and Sugar
Sugar: C12H22O11
Cocaine: C17H21NO4
The only thing missing is a nitrogen atom. There are volumes of information about the negative affects of sugar on the body; but we do it because we like it. If you are interested in knowing more about how sugar is bad, the link below contains some information.
Full article on Sugar "The Drug" (http://www.macrobiotics.co.uk/sugar.htm)
Give serious thought to this, you can't denounce one without the other; otherwise you will appear to be a hypocrite.
Understand, I'm not trying to poke at anyone, just trying to make us think.

No offense UNITY, I enjoy humor as much as anyone; but your post follows par with the few posts that I have submitted on this board in the past. It goes apparently un-noticed or people refuse to engage or deal with it. To continue on with tongue and cheek accolades bears witness to the fact that we ignore and make light of what we don't want to deal with; discounting the proposition as a ridiculous premise not worthy of retort. I registered again after an absence and do not post often because of this.
The case in point is not about coffee, no coffee, but what we decide are acceptable practices based on personal preferences and the teachings that we are exposed to in life. Biblical principles should take the lead in all points of contention, and as we all know, there are items that can be argued to no end. But if we honestly followed everything to the letter, as with the given example, we would not consume sugar, items with caffeine, alcohol, chocolate, even fatty foods. We have lost a number of pastors and church folk because of improper dietary habits. The afore mentioned items are quite clear to be bad for the body; If the body is the temple of God and we are not to defile it, then why do we get to pick and choose what is good for us and what is bad for us?
Today, it is nearly impossible to prevent the introduction of some foreign chemical into the body that is unhealthy; I am aware of this. Apparently we choose not to think about it, giving our self license to fulfill the lust of the flesh. When we continue to take things into our bodies that we know are bad for us, is this not in itself a sin?
I ask:
Is one "drug" that affects neurological processes okay and not another? And if so, tell me why? Is it okay to abuse ones body with foods known to cause heart problems, cancer and other diseases?
Have I made my point?

Dear Brother Steingass, This is Cherokee. I like your little man going in all different directions. Kinda like us Pentecostals at times. Some of us can't make up our mind exactly which way we need to believe but one thing I know for sure! Jesus is a personal Friend and if you should or should not do something, if we but consult Him first He will give us direction. Then we won't be like your little figure going in all directions!..It really is cute, I think I've seen my grandkids jerking around like that!!LOL. Love Ya' in Jesus!!! Cherokee

DefenderofTruth,
No offense was taken, actually i didn't see your post, i was looking at someone else's and thought this was just some humorous postings. I can see you are very passionate about this and I understand your convictions. We introduce chemicals to our body all the time. I have to admit, I probably should read more labels than I do. I will cease to be light-hearted in my response on this subject in respect to your feelings on this matter. Please forgive me if you were offended by my statements.

To continue on with tongue and cheek accolades bears witness to the fact that we ignore and make light of what we don't want to deal with; discounting the proposition as a ridiculous premise not worthy of retort. I registered again after an absence and do not post often because of this.
But Defender, I don't know about elsewhere, but you did it to yourself on this thread when you posted all that serious stuff....and then ended it with a remark about drinking your sugared-up coffee this morning.
It's kind of like saying "I love you, but you're too messy". What would stick out in the person who the message is being given to? Would the fact that they are loved stick out or would the message of their messiness being a problem stick out? The latter, of course.
I admit....you did give me something to think about that I don't really want to deal with.

I don't want you to refrain from having fun and making jokes, and I was not offended by your post; I am a little tougher than that. It just seemed like the perfect topic to express how I fell about the way we pick and choose what is right and wrong. The gist of my second response was to center the focus back on what I posted for discussion. I just don't want it to slip away without being taken notice of or addressed.
What I posted is probably extreme, but it is true. I am no health nut and I eat and drink whatever I want; I'm not a glutton though.
Fact is, we unconsciously consume drugs in food and beverages on a regular basis, but condemn the use of drugs such as alcohol in the same breath. When technically we are using drugs! I just wanted to pose the thought for deep consideration, how things can get by us.
Maybe this makes more sense now.

Kitty,
An ounce of sugar (another pun) :D goes further than a pound of salt. Here's a story for you:
I used to manage 350 people with several managers under me. When I made the decision to leave the company and move to SC, my managers came to me and told me that they enjoyed and appreciated the way that I could make them understand the gravity of an issue, but let them walk away not feeling like they had been completely beating up. And that they did not walk away with the feeling that because I ended on a light-hearted note that it took away from the intensity of the issue that we had just discussed.
I understand your point, it is difficult at times to portray ones sentiments/feelings via facial expressions and body language in text; therefore I conclude by your reaction that my wrap was poorly chosen, please forgive me. I removed the section that you are referring to as not to take away from the context of the message I was trying to get across. Thanks for the insight.
HOWEVER.... lol
When I was an Asst Pastor, I employed the same method with great success in my sermons, because unfortunately the attention span of most church goers is about as short as the life span of a 'possum on the Atchafalaya Basin Expressway. :yeah: (A little Louisiana related humor.)

Could it be because the LORD has given us 'free will!?!
Du-u-h! Yes we may even kill ourselves if we choose to!
Most do not do it intentionally. I seriously doubt anyone wants to die! Just because one enjoys certain things. There are many people that argue "life is too short NOT to enjoy it!! Too many in this nation have taken that notion to the limits, to wit, we have millions of alcoholics, many presently dying of cirrohsis of the liver, and any number of related illnesses or diseases, or complications, ditto for drugs. Gluttony has its own set of dire health consequences. Other things have more subtle implications, the sugar IS really bad for us. I felt so much better getting of sugar when my doctor ordered it due to my borderline diabetes., and I lost weight as a bonus. We really CAN live w/o it! Caffeine, we-e-l-l, that something else! I MUST have my 1 morning cup at least! with NO MILK! or sugar.

Is coffee a drug?
Some folks like to contend that it is. And some even consider it a stimulant.
What say anyone??
All I know is that having read an article about the effects of the caffeine (stimulant?) in coffee, that one will reap whatever effects caffeine may provide - after 1.5 /2 cups of coffee, period. Drinking more than that will not increase whatever effect may be acquired.
Thats good to know. I drink coffee for its inviting aroma, and delicious taste - not necessarily to wake up., although I dearly love my morning coffee.
I also like cold frappucino (Starbucks, vanilla), or cappucine (hot) but must defer due to the high sugar content, and its good that I do prefer plain black coffee, preferably fresh ground. :D

I love coffee. I just love it. I used to be a barista, that is, the person that makes your espresso at the espresso stand. It is my favorite job, and if I had been single I would have seriously considered retrofitting a van with an espresso cart and making a living with it. I kind of wanted to go back with it to Minnesota where I am originally from, but I got married, & I haven't been to Minnesota in more years than I was there anyway.
I read somewhere a book that was talking about the social differences between coffee and tea. It was interesting.
Coffee = masculine side, warm, friendly, outgoing, taking charge, American independance and self-reliance kind of thing. like dogs.
Tea = femenine side, polite, proper, think British High Tea. like cats.
I am paraphrasing what they said. There's a lot of exceptions I'm sure.

I have thought about it but to startup an espresso stand is about $5,000-$10,000 total, at least, from what I have found. I have the kids, they aren't in school at all, so logistically I couldn't do it. And there's no way my husband would want to get a loan for this!! :) Can't say I blame him! I haven't had any caffeine in 8 days. Also, very little sugars, and very few refined carbs. And no, it is not the Atkins diet, it is the South Beach diet. *L*
Anyway, I have more energy now than ever. I am more alert, my mind is clearer, I don't get sleepy near as often during the day (maybe 1 time, tops, somedays none - it all depends on how much sleep I get).
I guess all those bad sugars and carbs we constantly stuff ourselves with really do a number on us - a lot more than I ever imagined.
Anyway, in the first few days I had a few minor caffeine withdrawal headaches, but nothing to bad (and I used to drink a good 3-4 colas a day). But that stopped after day 3 or 4.

"Diet" thread... but oh well, we are here and not there...:D LOL
We (everyone at my home) are starting the south beach diet next week. Which should be interesting, since I work at Burger King.:p LOL
Actually we (Burger King) now have a low carb menu that is aproved by both the Atkins and South Beach diets (A whole 2 item menu ;)) which consists of what I normally eat there anyway. :o exept the last 2 weeks. My biggest problem will be that I get really thirsty at work (because I have to talk all day:p ) We are allowed to take a quick drink if we are by the drive-thru, out of sight of the customers, but we can't keep any water bottles or anything up front, so we end up drinking WAY to much pop because the water in the pop fountain really bad!
Anyway, we have been reading from the South Beach diet book. It sounds like a really good diet.

Ok sorry- that was barista talk!
Man what I wouldn't give for really good espresso. Like I said, almost all they have is $tarbucks here, it's over-roasted junk. I saw a different espresso place in this one mall like 30 minutes away, I asked them where they got their beans and he said they were "fresh roasted" from their headquarters- in Michigan! And he was proud of this!
Well I just came from Washington- I worked for one place that had a bean roaster machine there, and there are little roaster companies all over- Just knowing there's Pegasus coffee or Tully's or baristas that really know how to make a latte around was something. Civilization.
Well no doubt I'm probably such a coffee snob (I almost never try to talk like this, but this is a coffee thread!) but good coffee is OH, SO GOOD!!!!!!

Praise the Lord! Honestly, I think we as Apostolics can sometimes go over the edge. We have good intentions and we devote ourselves to the Lord entirely sacrificing ourselves by lifting up good holy standards, but sometimes we can practically go insane by trying to follow mans standards and not God's Spirit.
For example, I might ask why aren't we supposed to drink coffee. The reply might come back, "because of the caffeine which can become easily addicting". In that case we ought never to drink soda again. We must never eat desserts such as chocolate cake again too. Why? Because of the sugar and the results it can have on my overall health. If that's the case no more- fried chicken- because of grease which work to clog arteries, no more cheeseburgers/ hamburgers- which can overall negatively affect my heart, no more typing on this computer because it can eventually lead to carpel tunnel.
The point is where do we draw the line? Standards are good if we keep the underlying principles a priority and not losing sight of Jesus Christ and his Spirit that he gave us.
With all that said, if there is no law against drinking a legal cup of coffee. I'm going to pray over it and drink it. (Alcohol is a different story of course.)

We're supposed to do ALL to the glory of GOD..whatever it is we do.

So, I am also drinking a delicious aromatic cup of coffee as I type this (despite this carpal tunnel syndrome).. GOD will receive any glory from it that is due HIM. I stopped drinking coffee and caffeine because it was an addiction to me just as alcohol was to an alcoholic. I found I had to have it first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
Thats what my best sis-friend said and did.
So she's still doing the "sodas" thing, though! LOL
And NOT sugar-free neither! That'll kill ya more than coffee! I think she's diabetic too, but she refuses to go have it checked out. :grumble:
I always drink my coffee black, no sugar.

The first Parisian cafe opened in 1689 to serve coffee.
In the year 1763 there were over 200 coffee shops in Venice.
Raw coffee beans, soaked in water and spices, are chewed like candy in parts of Africa.
The Japanese have been known to bathe in coffee grounds fermented with pineapple pulp, for reducing wrinkles and improving their skin.
Coffee sacks are usually made of hemp and it takes over 600,000 beans to fill a coffee sack.
Finely grinding coffee beans and boiling them in water is still known as "Turkish Coffee."
Green coffee beans nearly double in size during roasting?
Coffee is a natural beverage with no added sugar or preservatives.
The faster the brewing method, the finer you should grind your coffee beans.
Caffeine is the most widely used stimulant in the world.

Brazil & Colombia grow more than 70% of the worlds supply of Arabica coffee beans.
On a typical day in the U.S. approximately 49% of the population drinks coffee.
37% of `coffee drinkers drink their coffee black.
After planting, Arabica trees mature in 3-4 years, when they produce their first crop.
Arabica trees can produce fruit for 20-30 years.

'..'been stayin up all night (thanx to that pot of coffee) reading worldly "books" again, eh?
Or was it MSN?? I myself saw this lengthy report today on 'coffee' on MSN but did not have time to read it all, just a bit - looked very interesting and well done. Its about how coffee growers are losing money..and having to shut down their businesses, are suffering economically., etc.

Good one! (not that I agree) I like Folgers, whats wrong with it? Okay, so its not as good as say, Starbucks..or some fancy shmansy coffee, flavored something or other..but its good American coffee..sing along with me all ye patriotic citizens of this great nation:
"..the best part of waking up - is Folgers in your cup"!
:jk:
Lemme rephrase that - "the best part of waking up..is knowing that 'this is the day that the LORD hath made - I will rejoice and be glad in it"..
I'll be singing this in about 7 hours, nitey nite! (then smelling that aromatic brew)!! :D AND sipping it while checking into this CAFE (spanish for 'coffee') in case some didn't KNOW that!

HA! Very funny!
I guess grading would account for some loss. You know I have bought many "gourmet" beans over the years and FRESH Folgers beans are not at the bottom of the list. Coffee grade is just one factor. Freshly roasted and freshly ground are just as important.

I'm drinking a nice cup of decaf....after talking with a friend of mine, we came to the mutual agreement that the doc who told me coffee (even decaf) affects asthma must be a coffee hater. :goof:
Bro Atkinson said: "I never did get the point of decaf."
Some of us have to drink decaf to enjoy coffee. Seriously, I can drink as much soda as I want and it doesn't affect me but one cup of regular coffee and I'm bouncing off the walls - my heart races and I get all jittery. I can't figure out why.

Ick! I hate that nasty, regular hot coffee. IF it were all that were available to me to drink I would go for some coffee with my cream & sugar.
Otherwise, gimme some iced mocha, please... :)

The caffienes in different things, like espresson beans, regular coffee beans, chocolate, tea, etc. are all slightly different chemically. It is very possible that a person has different reactions to the slightly different chemicals.

...does that qualify me to post in this thread? I so hate being left out of anything.
My mother hated it, so I learned to drink it from my Granny and PapPaw....loved wakes, funeral dinners and family reunions, because I could managed to sneak of cup -- heavily sugared, of course. (Hey, I had to -- chicory coffee was the norm where I grew up!)
Anyhow -- 24 years ago next month, my first bout of morning sickness hit....IN the morning....on a stomach with nothing but coffee on it. To this day, I can not swallow the stuff. It smells SO good....if I were rich, I'd brew a pot every morning just for the aroma!
Instead, I've always said "I prefer my caffeine carbonated and over ice." Coca-cola was my "drug of choice".
Another baby -- 17 years ago -- greatly altered my consumption of that. If I drank a Coke, he wouldn't sleep for 24 hours after nursing. Since I felt it a little selfish to wean him so I could drink Coke, I gave it up. (There wasn't any Caffeine-free Coke back then -- just Sprite, 7-up and orange sodas.)
When he finally weaned, I learned, much to my consternation, that "I" could no longer tolerate the caffeine!!! Has anyone ever tried to go to sleep with a caffeine buzz?? Is that miserable or WHAT??
Now I can drink caffeine during the day -- but have to cut it off about 6 PM or risk being awake all night. My current addiction is worse than any coffee-junkie....
I know where every Sonic Drive-In is from Dallas to Gulfport!! "I'll have a Route 44, Diet Vanilla Coke -- easy ice!"
Mercy -- if I ever get conviction over that....:wah:

There is a lady at the church in West Texas I attended for the last 4 years who makes candles. I'll have to have her sample some coffee scent and see if there's one I really like. Took her a while, but she finally found a lavendar that I really like.
I'm gonna see about doing a fundraiser with her candles for the Junior Youth Bible Quiz team at my current church. I bet coffee would be a good seller.
