Is there a handbook for ministry which outlines, scriptually, the prerequisites for ordination of folks into ministry roles such as deacons and ministers. I mean people officially recognized as such with the ability to conduct sacraments like bapisms, weddings, christenings, etc. I have become aware of a church in which the pastor "set's aside" certain members who proclaim they have a "call to ministry" on their lives. After a period of observation by other "ministers", those set aside are then licensed by the Pastor and receive written documentation. The period of time in which the set aside ones are being observed, they are permitted to baptize without being duly ordained. Is this proper, or does it depend on the individual church governing rules. Is a marriage ceremony authentic if conducted under such circumstances? Is a baptism recognized, etc. Is there a book somewhere with scriptural guidance, or is everything an act of faith?

Sister I believe you can purchase a ministers manuel that gives prerequisites for performing funerals and weddings. But the church government of the local church or constituancy decides on ordination. Also just for facts I consider all Baptisms done in full immersion in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ valid. The bible does.lv sis.c

Sister,
I agree with Sister C. It is up to that certain Organization/Church on who is "qaulified" to perform weddings, funerals, baptisms, ect.... The first church I served in told me I would not be able to perform these kinds of ceremonies until my 6 month probation period in the church was completed. After the 6 months I moved on to perform these ceremonies. I am not sure of the UPC or other organizations. God Bless.

Sister,

In my county the only thing needed is an ordination by a church or being a "rep" for a church and you can perform them. The County does not require registration here. God Bless.
