Other than that, the rest comes from reading, meditating, re-reading by prayer and revelation of the word.

Try just picking up a Bible, Bible commentary or Bible dictionary and just reading…..
I like to do that some times – just for the pleasure of reading and expanding my mind.
When you hear others preaching listen what they are saying & take notes.
Many times the notes will do you better than your memory.
You will see many good Preachers taking notes during the sermon – it’s not rude – it’s a complement to many…
I write many notes right in my Bible – always to have with me.
You are Young so think of this - -
What would be a better inheritance to give to your children when they grow up…??
1) A photo album filled with pictures showing where you’ve been here on earth /or/
2) A Bible filled with notes and “Love Letters” given from the Lord – showing where you’ve been Spiritually.

SERMONIZING
A boy was watching his father, a pastor, write a sermon."How do you know what to say?" he asked.
"Why, God tells me."
"Oh, then why do you keep crossing things out?"

His NAME is Jesus!
Ever see a preacher begin a sermon: it was OK, but maybe a little bland? Then, somewhere between the introduction and the middle part, he really took off in the Spirit?
Well, the first part was not preaching: it was sermonizing. There are men who are really good at that; even in the secular world.
The second part was the Lord, who is EXCELLENT in what He does!
Secular preparation does not a minister make. It takes a 'calling' from the Lord; and HE does the preparation.
Do you really believe that Peter and Andrew, and the rest of the disciples just up and followed Jesus? Of course not! There was some SPIRITUAL preparation involved!
"...I will send you Elijah...he shall TURN the hearts of the children...the hearts of the fathers..." They had heard the preaching of John the Baptist, and their hearts were 'ripe' for the Lord when He said "...follow me, and I will make you fishers of men..."
You see, Beloved, the message and the 'audience' must coincide. The message must be preached to the ones needing to hear.
So, how are YOUR ears?

Apostolicjoe19,
Outlining scripture is a good method for building insight into the Word. Below is an example:
Psalm 1
The psalmist compares and contrasts the godly and the wicked and notes the end of each.
I. The Godly (1:1-3)
A. The contrast (1:1-2)
1. What they do not do (1:1)
a. Follow the advice of the wicked.
b. Stand around with sinners.
c. join in with scoffers.
2. What they do (1:2): They delight in the law of the Lord.
B. The comparison (1:3): They are like fruitful, well-watered trees.
II. THE GODLESS (1:4-6): The Lord protects the godly, but the wicked are worthless chaff who will one day be condemned and destroyed.
If you learn to create an outline of a verse or several related verses of scripture, you will be able to use the outline as the basic building blocks for creating an edifying teaching outline.
God bless,
Jim

AMEN SIS.
Volumes of tears shed on the pages of the Word while on bended knees will kindle a fire from heaven that will not be extinguished between the prayer room and the pulpit. God will arrest the mind of that preacher until his words will no longer be his own but the Words of God himself speaking his own words through the lips of his servant.

My daddy was a preacher and I've been around ministers all of my life...the most dynamic ones take their messages from a prayer closet to the pulpit. God can annoint the simplest words to make them powerful; likewise, the most eloquent words without the annointing of the Holy Ghost can be completely in vain.

Hey Bro Joe,
Just to let you know sometimes they just "happen". A minister can hear or see something and under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost a message is born.
I have looked at different things and just get a message. I also hear some great things from my wife which will in turn inspire me. (I say this so that men won't discount the things that their precious wives may say. She is a minister's most valuable ally.)
God can use anything. Remember the donkey... I figure if he can use a donkey, then I am qualified. Though, the donkey may have had a clearer word from God than I sometimes get. :D
I hope this helps you a little.

I get mine from God, I fast, and I pray, and I wait, and he speaks to me mostly in my mind, sometimes he will let me see something, and develope thoughts in my mind on what I see as a ant trying to pull 3 times his weight. God love ya,

And sometimes you pray, you read, you write, you think and when you get all your notes together, you get off just before service and ask the Lord's anointing and blessing upon it and when you step up to the desk God takes you a completely different route and your notes go back in the notebook for another time.
Prayer and fasting along with study of God's Word when you aren't getting a message ready are your greatest assets.
Sitting under a man of God in faithfulness and obedience with a willing heart and spirit will lead you into the Word God will use you to give His people.
Waiting on God. Plain and simple.
He will always take care of what is willingly submitted to Him.
And please....don't try to copy another preacher....let God use the gifts, talents, and what is close to your heart.
If you feel it, and are impassioned with the Word you will speak, then the congregation will also feel your burden and passion.
Love Ya' in Jesus!!!......Cherokee
