Hi,

I grew up in the Midwest and currently live in Southern California. Most UPC churches in the midwest are middle of the road. People have video, tv is allowed etc. (I guess some people would call that liberal) Most UPC churches in Southern California are very conservative. No slits in skirts, no video, no sports etc. In the next few years, my husband and myself are planning a move to Austin, Texas and I was wondering what type of churches I could expect and what's the "norm" Liberal, middle of the road, conservative? What type of standards? Any information would be so appreciated. It's so hard to switch churches. I LOVE my current church and hate to leave it

I hear ya on "switchin" -- Have to do it now and then -- job transfers! :ninja: -- but don't like it!

When do you think you'll be moving?

If I'm not mistaken, Brother David Bernard still pastors in Austin.

The churches I'm familiar with in DFW and Houston are probably what you would call "middle of the road".

It may be premature, but WELCOME TO TEXAS!

NOW -- I'm moving to Houston...anyone here go to church in that area??

yes I do, Life Tabernace, Pastor Jim Kilgore, is THE only place to go in the Houston area. We are about to start a great revival, great things are happening, it's just incredible. You won't be disappointed! Go to www.life-online.cc (http://www.life-online.cc)

Thank you for the link. I think the one on the upci.org page is obsolete.

Life Tabernacle is very high on the list of churches I want to visit! The Kilgore family is pretty much legendary in the realm of churches I've been in all my life! And Sister Ima -- she was just THE BEST.

There's Bro. Jacksons just outside of Houston, also. In Baytown I believe. I don't know a whole lot about it, but have met a few people from there and they seem to be on the conservative side.

BRO. PHILLIPS UPC CHURCH is the only one that i can think of right now for that area. or city.

He is on the net, but not sure what his site would be listed under. I am sure he is in the UPC CHURCH LISTINGS. GOD BLESS, SKEET

I spent 19 years in Houston. The only Bro. Jackson I knew was in the Highland area, in the Apostolic organization. They were conservative. Life Tab is an excellent church. Royalwood is another big church if you're looking at size...Actually there are a number of large churches there, Bro. Ken Gurley in Pearland, Rev. Ron Macey at Royalwood, Bro. Jim Kilgore at Life Tabernacle...I'm thinking that's the 3 largest in town but I may not know.

In Baytown, it is Bro. Tommy Jackson. In Vidor it is Bro. Mike Phillips and in Porter, it would be Bro. Jerry Green! In fact Bro. Green is having services for the new building they just completed on Apr. 16 - 18th. Friday night is Bro. Larry Booker. Saturday night is Bro. Ron Garrett and Sunday morning, I think it is Bro. Wayne Huntley but I'm not sure if I have Sunday right.
We are planning on being at Bro. Greens Church on Saturday night. We probably will not have time to get down to his Church on Friday night. :(

In His Name!!!

Looks like we will be staying in Southern California after all. As least for 5 years or so.....Can't say that I'm sad. I LOVE Southern California.

We moved to Conroe, TX when I was 17 and attended Bro. Green's church in Porter. (We were only there for about 7 months.) That's great to hear that they've built a new church. Do they have a website? I'd love to see pictures of the new church. Did they sell the old one? Expand? Or did they build on that property and use the old building for something else?

Had to play with the spelling a little, but got it to work this way.

Thanks!

Not to worry -- even great spellers can mess up when their fingers are flying fast on the keyboard!
