What is your church doing in your community? If I could share a few things with you. Our Pastor is passionate about helping the people no one wants to help..When he took over the pastorial position at our church, he immediatly went to the mayors office and asked him what the most needy, neighborhood was in our city. The mayor replied with an area and he said that no one wants to go down there, it is drug infested, crime ridden, poverty stricken, and our pastor replied "thats the area I want." So without further adue, he set up "adopt a block" ministries..We went every weekend, mowed lawns, cleaned things up, repaired homes, held picnics, had service in the park, gave away toys to kids, had rallies, etc...we set up a bus ministries to bus in the kids 1 night a week and we rented a gym so we could play games, have worship and give these kids some postive guidance in a world that is against them. At Thanksgiving we gave away 1,000 turkeys..went door to door and what a surprise to these people! That a church would come to them..do something wonderful for them...We are now in the process of adopting our next neighborhood and many of these people attend our church every week..We welcome them with open arms...We also started a homeless(we call them overcomers) ministry. Each Sat. night we bus in approx. 80 men and woman who live on the streets..We have music. a wonderful inspirational worship service and then a grand meal..we have a commitee of brothers and sisters who put together "bags of blessings" so each person gets essentials to get them through the week..peanut butter, jelly, bread, toothbrush, toothpaste, razors, deoderant, bible, bus pass,drinks,chips,etc...Many of our congregation come this night and we all get to interact together..2 have gotten homes so far and many have been baptised. Our alter call is 90% of the congregation. :) I love our Pastor for giving us all an area where we can help our fellow brothers and sister...just thought id share.. Anyone have anything they would like to contribute? Bless us all... :)
