2 Pe 2:22 “But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, the dog is returned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.”

We all know the Parable of the Prodigal Son. The story of the father’s son who leaves the father’s house and ends up in the pig pen and eventually comes to himself and returns to the father’s house.

2 Peter 2:22 could be called the Parable of the Prodigal Pig. It is the story of the pig who decided that he wanted to go and live in the father’s house. So he takes a bath and puts on some cologne and ties a pink ribbon around his neck and takes off for the father’s house. He gets there and lives with the father’s children for awhile but one day he looks at the mud hole beyond the father’s gate and "HE COMES TO HIMSELF" and says, "I can’t stand being clean and eating at a table and sleeping on clean sheets. I know what I will do. I will arise and go back to my mud hole and wallow.”

Not to mention, of course, the Parable of the Prodigal Pup also found in 2 Peter 2:22.

SAD to say that there is no shortage of these Prodigal Pigs..and Pups.. *sigh*
Why people want to return to "the world" with its muck and mire..ready to 'swallow' them whole..is beyond me.

Honestly, from someone who sometimes feels like a perpetual mud-dweller. It is really not as cut and dry as that.

The problem is in equating the church with God. Sometimes when the church disappoints us or fails to meet our needs, we mistakenly come to the conclusion that it is God who has failed us, and may walk away from them both.

Honestly, I love Jesus more than anything, but sometimes I pray "Lord please deliver me from your saints."
