Sister AK:
Don't you know, or haven't you heard that [old wives tale?] about pulling out greys, two or more will grow out in its stead!
So leave well enough alone...
I was around 26 when I got my first gray, now its totally salt/pepper, although in my pic here at the left, you can't tell! lol
The miracle of PhotoLab! Hehe! It hides a multitude of ....you know whats!
As for that process, I haven't a clue, I suspect everyone is different, I've never had a yen to do a study into the in/outs of gray hair! lol
Maybe some really bored soul out there HAS! (this is not meant to imply that you ,AK, are!) Come on gals, inquiring minds want to know [well SHE does]; as for me, its a bit too late to do anything about mine...just live with it Sister! Nothing wrong with curiosity., though. I don't mind learning a new thing or two, daily.
There's no harm in one or two grays., for now Sister AK-dont'cha wanna match your babies?!

Hi,
I'm very vain about my hair.....I'm 29 and have about 5 or 6 gray hairs. The graying process starts from the root. Your hair stops making pigment and it either comes in gray or white. A pre-existing hair will not turn gray. Only new hairs will grow in gray.

Just in the last six months, I have seen white hairs at my temples. Every once in while, I saw one or two, and gave them a quick swift yank, but there are too many to yank now. No one will ever convince me that stress doesn't have something to do with it.

I hate to tell you girls, but know matter how much yanking you do, it is eventually going to happen. One of these days, if you keep pulling them out as they come in you will be bald. lol I think we all probably pull the first one out, but it's really kind of like taking a drop of water out of the ocean and thinking that will keep the tide from coming in. lol I am getting pretty gray now, but it happened so gradually that I just got used to it somewhere along the way, and don't really mind it at all. In fact, know what, I kind of like it. It just looks natural on me. I have a friend who's hair was completely white by the time she was in her early thirties, but her hair is beautiful, so shiny. I hate to see an old woman who dies her hair jet black or red. It looks so unnatural, but I think showy white hair is beautiful. Anyway, I say just relax and let the Lord decide how you are going to look. He knows a lot more about what makes a woman beautiful than we do, and I think he must kind of like gray hair because if you think about it there are probably more gray headed women than any other color because it all turns gray eventually.

That gives us -- or at least me -- some hope.
I always thought MOST women with white/grey hair looked distinguished -- not as distinguished as a man with white/grey hair, but still, distinguished. However, I thought I'd at least be older when it began to happen. LOL ;)

Heres something neat that I read yesterday in a health magazine written by a physican. The reason they do hair analysis to test for nutritional deficiencies is that whatever toxin you have inside comes out in your hair.So by doing so they know what to do to elimiate it.My dad is 83.We all have been on a natural diet and very balanced diet.no sugar,no dairy except small amts goat cheese and yogurt.Soy products occasionally. Not overdoing it as it effects your hormone balance if overdone.Fresh fruits and veggies.Whole grain products. We have tried to elimate all processed food and additives.Well at tnis weeks exam Dads MD
was amazed and wants to know what we are doing because it seems he is getting younger instead of older. His hair that was
once white is not coming in black again. Also the sister who cares for him had gone prematurely grey and now her hair is coming in blonde.A few white hairs I understand but be sure its not your diet.lv sis.c

Sister C,
Do you have any books that you're basing your diet on?
Marie
06-02-2003, 01:15 PM
Sister Cooper that is so true! Your diet and stress affect your skin, nails, etc, so why not your hair? We had a Sister in the Church in Calgary who came from the Phillipines. When she came to Canada, her hair was pretty well snow white. Her life was very stressful over there and her diet very different. When I first met her a few years after being here, the BOTTOM of her hair was pure white and the TOP was jet black! It was amazing! She had the most beautiful hair!

Sister Renee,
There are several books by Dr.Don Colbert,Dr.Doug Kaufman,
There is also a new book coming out by Dr.Mark Hyman and Dr.Mark Liponis who are codirectors of Canyon Ranch Health
Resort, a practice affiliated with Bringham and Women's Hospital
in Boston which is a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School.
There is a new book that will be out called Ultraprevention
I go to www.iknowthecause.com which is Doug Kaufmans web site and also Dr.Colbert has a site where he helps with detoxing issues that has articles.I can't remember the address but you can do a geeves search and get it.Also I subscribe to Body and Soul magazine and skip the new age junk for the physicians articles.
They also have a website. But honestly I have taken two years of nutrition in college. And currently am a nurse.Pretty soon I will be all signed up for a course to become a naturapathic physician which will take a few years but well worth it to do what I love to do best....help others live a more abundant life in this present world.I don't believe Jesus wants us to be ill.I know he wants us functioning at optimal level so we can productively work for him.lv sis.c

I hope so Sister.I am striving tword that goal.I feel like I can help people both spiritually and physically. Most people who do this are not christian but New Age or Buddists etc.I want to see Jesus's people well and blessed and having a physical sense of well being.Actually the price for school is not as bad as I thought.
I especially would love to see women having a better understanding of nutrition so that the children are eating correctly
There is too much called ADD that is actually improper nutrition.lv sis.c

I agree. When my stepson came to live with us, we were told his was ADHD(I think thats the write letters.) He was violent and destructive! He had been on Ritilin for about 2 years. That stuff is wicked! If we were even 10 min late to give it to him, he would go snaky! I almost thought he was posessed. But after watching him for a couple of weeks, I realized it was his diet. My son was extremely hyper active and had a VERY short attention span. He had some behaviour problems, but he was not violent. His doctor sent him for allergy tests because of his asthma. He reacted to all but about 6 or 7 of the drops. (they did the scratch test) After changing his diet and ridding my house of as many allergens as I could, along with the ventolin, he calmed right down! The difference was shocking! So after watching Danny, I took him to a specialist and sure enough, he was allergic to many foods and all kinds of environmental things. He also had asthma. When his diet was changed, he was a completely different boy! It was like night and day. He was such a sweet loving boy.:) I have watched other children that are labeled ADD or ADHD and many of them have a poor diet and live mostly on processed food. I am convinced that if their diets were changed, they would be different children.

I am not sure how true it is, but I have heard that even in the prisons, they have found violent men change when their diet is changed.

Marie,
I do agree that there are many reasons for the behavior that they always seem to label ADHD. They tried to pin it on my daughter Jac. I refused to let them do it, she doesn't have ADD, she is my most detail orientated child. She ended up suffering from depression because of the problems with the divorce. Once her seritonin levels were stabilized, she was fine.
I do have a daughter that actually has ADHD. She was diagnosed in kindergarten. As she has gotten older, the she has settled down some, but is still so easily distracted. When she is on meds, her grades are very good, but if I let the meds lapse, the grades go downhill very quickly. She is an intelligent girl, but reminds you of the absent professor. She would lose her head if it were not attached. She is extremely disorganized without the meds. It literally would take her 10 min to get her act together in class, ready to learn. Then she will quickly lose interest in the teacher, and be really concerned with the spider going up the wall. Their minds travel at an alarming speed from one thing to another. The way Ritalin works, is to bring the mind and the body together in the same speed. Somehow, it slows the mind down, the body up some to make them able to function as normal people.
Her diet is good, we all love vegi's, and I am a cook that has always cooked from scratch.
Her father suffers from the same thing. He was diagnosed as an adult, and when medicated, you saw a world of difference. The doctor said that his dependency on weed, was his trying to self medicate and slow his mind down. It is often hereditary.
I do believe that they have used it as a cure all without taking the time to figure out what was really wrong with kids.

Sister Lisa,
nine out of ten the md did weed.No doctor answers like that.
I guess you could say we were all add once then because lots who grew up in the seventies smoked weed.It was the in thing.
What you might do is get Don Colberts book at Books a million
or Family Bookstore entitled....The Bible Cure for Add.
I put Stephanie on Seasilver and I see a miricle in the making.
She is so much more attentive. It was metabolism.Certain things like sugar, food additives and preservatives...and have you ever noticed how many products have High Fructose Corn Syrup added? Look on the labels in your house and come back and tell me how much sugar the children are really getting.Almost every product has it.I have learned to weed through the supermarket and cook from scratch but make sure the ingredients are purest I can get.lv sis.c

Your right about the sugar! One of the things that my son Marc is allergic to is sugar. If you gave him 1 candy, he would be bouncing off the walls! And milk products cause severe asthma attacks and migraines. When I found out about the sugar, I began to look at lablel. There are very few items without sugar and/or milk products. Danny was badly allergic to wheat, (his favorite cereal was Puffed Wheat:( ) and peanuts. His favorite lunch and snack was peanut butter sandwiches. The 5 top food allergens are: fish, nuts, wheat, corn and milk. Many people who are not allergic may have a sensitivety(sp) to these products. Some environmental triggers are: dust, dust mites, pollen, mold, chemicals, etc. We found that both Marc and Danny were allergic to mold that grows in the old heating systems in the schools. Marc would get migraines in kindergarten and grade 1 and that was the trigger. All my kids are allergic to dust and dust mites. LOL dust mites love this climate! I think that is why I am so fussy about a clean house. When the kids were small I had to keep my house dust free! Ha! :( All these things can cause ADD and ADHD like symptoms. I'm sure there are people with the chemical imbalance that causes ADD and ADHD, but not near as many as are diagnosed with is.

Ddc,
The doctor was a devout Christian. He didn't smoke weed. He was with a family counseling service that we had counseling with. He was either a psychiatrist, or a physiologist? Not sure. He was very instrumental in guiding us through the scriptures that pertained to marriage, family, and responsibilities as Parents and husband/wife. We would drive back and forth from MI, to see this Dr. every month. He is now on staff at an Indianapolis hospital, or I would have my kids in counseling with him right now. He was one of those Christians that his love for Christ showed forth, although he didn't have the truth as we know it. He help was instrumental in the restoration of our marriage in 1998.
I have removed sugar from Elaine's diet, I didn't see a difference.
I have watched as coffee, or a Mountain Dew, would put both my husband and daughter to sleep within just a short time. Caffeine with them could be used as a sleeping pill.
I have always made my kids drink sprite, if we were out, and they were drinking a soda. Someone in my family bought the girls that forbidden drink (Mountain Dew) one day. I had two bouncing off the walls, and one very relaxed and sleepy little girl.
I have studied ADD online, and in workshops, I know I have a true case of it living with me.
Ritalin slows her down. She is productive, organized and thinks clearly when medicated.

Hey! I just noticed this thread! :D
I'm probably 90% gray. I had gray at 18 although it was mostly underneath and not noticed. The gray don't bother me but what DOES bother me is that part of the gray, a portion in the back, it turning yellowish. I have heard this is diet related. I have heard I can "treat" this without coloring it. Coloring is out of the question...for me that is.
I just love all these people that tell me gray hair means wisdom. If I had as much wisdom as I do gray, I would be in heaven already!

I hope you don't think I was saying Elaine was one of those misdiagnosed? I'm sorry if I gave that impression.
Lady,
LOL When I call you "Lady" I feel like I am talking to my cat, that is her name! (We really miss her :( She was one of the best cats we had) Anyway, I am one of those "lucky" gray's. My hair is dark blond, (I prefer to call it light brown:D ) I have several white hairs, but they don't show unless I am under certain lighting. Actually, I don't mind the gray. Esther has had gray hair for a few years now and she is only 14(for 45 days. lol She is counting down!)

Now my youngest son age 18 turns his nose up at 'em., oh well.
He especially hates onions, and we have recurring family [onion
] jokes with him! My other son who does like 'em, once wrote a short essay called: 'onions-they're our friends' , that was so-o-o cute! He wrote it just for his brother (they're close) and this was about 8 yrs ago! I'll never forget it, it hung on the frig for a long time, but when we moved, it got lost!

If you put a plate of food in front of me, I would eat the vegi's first, then everything else. I often never finish my piece of meat.
I usually cook frozen or fresh vegi's, but for spinach, my girls love canned. I fixed three cans of it for dinner tonight, and they devoured it.
You have to start them young in loving vegi's. I used to tell my girls to pretend they were big dinosaurs eating the trees (broccoli). I can't fix enough broccoli now, they love the stuff.
My baby doesn't like onions or tomatoes, which I have no clue why?? I haven't met a vegi yet that I didn't love, with the exception of brussel sprouts, I am not that fond of those.

Sprite Remix is fairly new on the market, but I encountered it over six months ago when they were doing research on it. I was a tester. I couldn't wait for it to come out -- my family went through that 20 oz 6 pack so fast! I was all happy when we saw it in the store about a month ago, but, like I tell Rob, I am only buying it when there's a good sale. I could live in Sprite Remix and water. I only do soft drinks sparingly and only diet.It is like drinking a liquid candy bar with each meal.Oh it taste great..thats how they sell so much of it.I would drink sprite remix only if they had diet.
So far I haven't seen any. What I do is buy several brands of 100% fruit juice and or diet sprite and make a fruit juice spritzer.
I especially love cranberry or white welchs grape juice and tonic water or diet sprite.I actually prefer the tonic as the aspertame
being in there bugs me.It causes parkinsonian symptoms and also metobolic imbalances.I also cannot stomach tearing up little pinks packages that say cause cancer in mice in lab experiments.

Yes, Roger and a boy where we used to live fell in love with each other and he went to live with them. And Lady is with a young couple that are cat lovers. They are both spoiled and happy:)

I wonder if anyone has ever heard about the book that is out that explains what happens to cosmetics on the shelves while they sit in jars.I know for a fact that the scalp is one of the areas of the body that has alot of blood vessels.Just get a head injury and see how much more it bleeds than any other area of the body.Imagine that we are putting dyes right onto an area where they are being absorbed right into the skin and right into the blood stream.I just can't fathom doing that on purpose.lv sis.c

For anyone that is interested in aspartme free colas. Diet RC and Diet Rite is flavored with Splenda and Diet Rite comes in Strawberry/Kiwi, White Grape, Tangerine and Cola flavors.
I have to chuckle when I hear about those 1 and 2 strands that people see in their 20's or 30's. I started getting grey when I was 17. Grey hair runs in my family. My sister was born with a couple of strands. I must say that it has bothered me for years now because by the time I was in my 20's I had a great deal of grey hair. In my thirties I was asked did I want to purchase something for my grandchild. I've had people think that I was a persons mother that was my age or close to it. These moments have been very hurtful. I know that it is vain but it bothers me a great deal. For many years after I was born again I didn't color my hair but felt horrible about the way that I looked. In the last few years I have started coloring my hair again and I turned 50 in Nov. I don't feel good about this but I don't particularly feel bad either.

My grey blends in so well with my hair color it looks like an expensive frost job, but I had quite a lot by 35.
It could all go grey tomorrow for all I care.
Then maybe I'd get some respect!:grumble:

Thanks for this info. I don't like diet drinks for a reason. I will use saccharin in my tea and coffee, but I don't like aspartame at all, and it's not good for you either. I think I will try them with Splenda though.

Never thought of it that way - sister, you already got mine! :D
Anyway, here's an interesting incident that happened a few weeks ago:
Young folks are often attendees at fast food restaurants, even the 'all you can eat' buffets.
After church, my husband and I went to one such establishment, the cashier young 'kid' looked at me (salt/peppper hair a-shinin!) and asked if this was on the 'senior citizens' discount!!!!!!!!
And this is while also looking at my hubby, who is much younger than I! We were laughing so hard as we sat down with our trays!
Then discovered she had INDEED given us the discount after all! We were very surprised.
NOW< I could take this as an insult as I'm NOT over 60, or 65...[I'm not even a grandma!] but we appreciated the discount. :yeah: A mixed blessing! LOL
My hair looks grayer nearer the bottom, less gray on top (salt/pepper) and evidently, the 'young in years' associate it with AGE! ..not necessarily wisdom! lol

Yes, I was 37 the first time I got a SCdiscount!! They didn't even ASK, just gave it to me! I was a little thrown off, until I finally decided they figured it's easier to err on the wrong side than to offend.
Now I just laugh.

For real. My first grey came when I was 29 and I yanked that sucker out fast. Now at 31 I have two. And, really, I was hoping I could keep my beautiful head of brunette till I was at least old enough to be a grandma! :wah:
[/QUOTE]
Is that all? I got my first grey hair when I was 21 or 22. I'll be 31 in just a couple months and I can't even count how many I have. :realmad:
Some of my grey is nearly as long as the rest of my hair which is past my waist. :(
I always blamed it on my husband and kids ~ my husband blames it on mineral/vitamin deficiency ~ while someone else told me it's genetics and can't be helped.
My husband was really really grey by the time he was 29. I used to tease him and tell him our kids would call him gramps instead of dad. :yeah: (We were newlyweds and didn't have kids yet).

You thought you were hopping made before. I am now 32 and can actually only find one grey. I have no clue where the other went...
And, NO, I did not pluck it! :)
Ah, well...someone at work turned 50 today and when I told her she is younger than my mother by a couple of months she was surprised and said that my mom looked younger than that. I think that's genetic. My grandmother has always looked younger than her age and most people are surprised when they hear I have a 12 year old. :)
Now I think I'll go run and hide before you come beat me up...

 I won't come beat you up. You can come out of hiding.
But it sure is depressing having grey early.
My dad and grandmother always looked younger. My mom made my dad grow a mustache one time because they mistook him for her son.
I used to look older. When I was 13, the kids in the dorm at camp mistook me for the dormmom - they thought I was 21. :wah: At the time, I took it as a compliment. (I think it was because I always acted older)
But somewhere through the years, my aging has slowed down I think ~ except the grey. I've had people act surprised when I tell them how old I am. People have been guessing me younger.
Probably cause I don't act my age. :goof:
Last year we had a water volleyball tournament between the young women under 30 and the more distinguished ladies (above 30). Some of them thought I was on the wrong side. It's so nice when that happens.

Maybe it's because your hair's falling out ~ that would explain where that other grey hair went. Boy, I sure am glad that hasn't started happening to me yet. :goof:

One of my boss was telling me the other day that he couldn't believe he has been out of school for ten years. I laughed and he looked at me funny. I asked him how old he was and then told him I have been out of school 3 yrs longer than he has been alive! You should have seen his eyes. LOLOL I have a son the same age as him. :o I have discovered, to my dismay, that there is another young fellow, the same age as him, that has been wanting to ask me out!

When I was in middle school I looked more like a 16 or 17 year old whereas all the other kids were scrawny little things. They called me fat over it, but I really wasn't all that fat. I had just matured faster than they. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that till I was much older.
The age people think I am tends to varies, but usually it's between 20 and 25.

I wasn't bigger than the other kids. I think it was because I always wore my hair up and tried different grown-up hairdos all the time. Plus, I thought I was too grown up for a lot of the stuff young teens do. But I outgrew that once I became an adult. :goof:

When I was 12 I looked 18. At 18 I looked 25.
I never minded this until I was 27. I remarking to my Sunday School class full of teens that people always guessed my age wrong. Someone asked, "Well how old are you?" And I made the dread mistake of saying, "Guess!"
I was a little taken aback when someone offered, "Well, I'd say 35, but what are ya, 40?"
Had to blame it on all those kids I had!!! :yeah:

When I was young everyone thought I was older. Now I have a hard time convincing people I have a son 27. LOL My mother was always mistaken for "one of the Smith girls" There are 5 of us and when we walked down the street together, people thought Mom was one of us girls. :yeah: My grandmother kept her youthful look even when she was completely white haired.
When I was with my Mom 3 yrs ago, just before she died, we were in the elevator with her 2 sisters and someone thought we were all sisters! I told them I didn't know if that was supposed to mean I looked "old" or they looked young. LoL Of course, they said we ALL looked young. :yeah: Mom was 65 and her hair was still black, with a little gray. :( Until the radiation and kemo started.

Sister the ladies in my family grey older than the norm.In fact its not unusual for them to have little to no grey up in their sixties.I am forty two and just starting to get a little salt in my pepper. But the way I wear my hair you can hardly notice it.Anyway when it gets grey I am keeping it.It will be a change but I deserve to have something that denotes wisdom one day in this life.lv sis.c
