Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

We are not ignorant of the schemes of satan! What I’ve discovered, is actually the reverse of this verse to be true. Many, if not most Christians I have come across, have no idea about the schemes and attacks that enemy has planned against them.

In fact – this ‘ignorance’ shouldn’t surprise you either …because the number one plan of attack the enemy has against the world today – is to ‘mask his presence’.

Have you ever considered that some of the accusations and voices you hear in your mind, are not actually your own thoughts?

Revelation 12:10, the Bible calls satan, the ‘Accuser of the brethren’. The Bible also suggests, that Satan has the ability to put thoughts directly into your mind.

Matt 16:23, Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, and not from God’s.

John 13:2
And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him.

And later in the book of Acts.

Acts 5:3
Then Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart?

You see, so often – when we read the words of Ephesians 6:12 about not wresting with ‘flesh and blood’ …we ‘externalize’ it. We think about these things in other people, in the world, in the secular government and society.

But you know what we also forget? That we ourselves – are made of the same ‘flesh and blood’ as others are. Have you ever asked yourself ‘whose flesh and blood’ we are fighting against? Just maybe we need to look a bit closer to home, …into our own hearts and lives, and accept that some of the thoughts we have been conditioned to listen to, …some of the judgments and prejudices we have embraced, …haven’t actually originated in truth, or even from our own thought life, …but from the whispers and suggestions of the ‘spiritual rulers of the dark world’!

‘For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.’.

Revelation calls satan the ‘Accuser of the brethren’.

See if you recognize any of these:
· You’re no good!
· You can’t do it!
· You’ve tired and failed before!
· No one will listen to you!
· You can’t take the spiritual lead of your family – what will your wife think?
· You’re a failure!
· You’re ugly!

Now, what about thoughts aimed at getting us to be suspicious or hurt by other people.Thoughts designed to break fellowship and friendships. Emotions designed to make us feel indignant and hurt.
· They’re talking about you behind your back!
· They’re out to get you and make you look bad!
· They’re telling lies about you, and people are believing them too!
· They don’t like you!
· They are really the enemy and you need to get away from them!

What do we do when we hear these thoughts in our heads, that are almost too fast to recognize, even experiencing them as emotions? We respond to them with our own thoughts!

The thoughts of accusation and doubt that come into your head, usually start with the word ‘you’.
· You are a failure!
· No one will listen to you!
· You can’t succeed!
· You’ve failed every time before!
· No body likes you!
· You can’t trust anyone again!

If they were your own thoughts, they would start with an ‘I’.

These thoughts even have the potential ability to alter and influence how we think about others, how we treat them and react to them.

Who do you think fuels marriage and family break-ups, church splits and racial disharmony?

We can build up a whole image about a person, …a whole attitude of whether we like them or not, …based upon the thoughts in our heads, …even without speaking or meeting with that person!

That’s why gossip is condemned by Scripture, – because the one behind it, is the ‘Accuser of the brethren himself’. Be careful, be very - very careful!

Ephesians 6:13 Use every piece of God’s armor to resist the enemy in the time of evil, so that after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the sturdy belt of truth.

Put on salvation as your helmet,... the protector of our minds!

Excellent Post! It is so very true. I heard Bro. Crawford Coon preached a message called Gird Up The Loins Of Your Mind. It was dealing with the same thing. Again, I applaud you on a great job!

Yeah!!
I am so-o tired of those stupid dreams I have, BAD ones..that ME in my 'awake' state would not even concoct!!

And thats with me prayed up, read up...and such. :grumble:
..these same type dreams happen the same with my husband..but who is NOT into spiritual things.

I CAN see that it is satan's attempts, that is easy enough to figure out...BUT nonetheless a bit distressing.

Tufluv you bring up a good point and that's why scripture says, "Bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."

someone tried to tell me once, that thoughts are not real. so i gave that a thought & realized this persons thoughts are what are not real as in not true. thoughts are very much so real & it is important to me to recognise the battle the devil wrecks on us through the mind, through gossip, through unbelief, creating discord...

Alesaggio, the full armor of God is one of my favorite studies & i am always amazed at how the scriptures braid themselves around the full armor of God starting with the shield of faith.

the scripture teaches us what things to think on, if i may add that.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things..

Just maybe we need to look a bit closer to home, …into our own hearts and lives

this is something i have learned also. to remove myself from certain things & get back into prayer & study the Word. finding the totals of the credit & debt & seeking that state of equilibrium in my mind, between myself & the Holy Ghost & that is a wonderful thing.

I am trying to get caught up in some of the readings. Very well put, and oh so timely. Thank you brother for allowing God to use you.

God Bless!

One thing I might add, phil 4:8 Think on these things!

Man all of you guys are right the mind is terrible I have to watch myself! People think cause were Christians were suppose to walk on water and not mess up! But the fact is the mind is a battle in itself and man I know personally I battle daily. But you know whats funny I believe most of these "thoughts" we have are'nt new but now that were saved we just pay a little bit more attention and govern them!

Another masterpiece in study Bro Alesaggio! :)

Just the other night I had a very small snippet of a dream.

My husband had already left for work and this is usually when odd dreams come into my mind.

In this dream I thought I was driving down the road that we live on. Odd thing was, all the houses that I was passing did not look familiar at all. I was driving slowly and I saw a woman and 2 small children running across a yard toward one of the houses.

I could tell she was in distress and I slowed down and watched as she jumped up on the porch of the house and stood in front of the door. I rolled my window down and yelled out to her "what's wrong??"

She screamed back at me in terror, "there is a huge lion loose and he's here!!"

After she said that she opened the door of the house and ran inside. I could hear the lion roaring, and I heard them screaming.

I never once "saw" the lion.

I then woke up and immediately the scripture came to my mind:

1 Peter 5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.

My prayer is that I can be sober, and vigilant and continually spiritually aware of his devices. Amen!!

An old thread that is just as applicable as it was in 2005!

We must stand firm in the faith, resisting every thought that presents arguments, ideas and concepts that are contrary to the truth of God and his revelation through the Word.

We have the power to tear down strongholds and to destroy every argument that sets itself up against the knowledge of God by following Paul's instruction; "Taking captive every thought and making obedient to Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Awesome Article!
Something that comes to mind often, "Put on, is "something WE do", and we
need to make sure we do put on the WHOLE armour OF GOD, and it tells us why
we need to do so.

Eph.6:10-18

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Every piece of armour is vitallly important so it is wise to commit each
piece to memory, as we don't know when we might need it.
