Hi everyone I wanted to start a place where stay at home moms could post and share.Your concerns are so different than working mothers as I have been both. You have so much time to do the things I desire to do myself.I sometimes regret having to work but I know its not for long.I loved being a stay at home mom.I had the nicest yard on the block.I was able to bake bread and do projects like painting..etc.I had a beautiful Herb garden in my back yard.I converted a cement fish pond into a garden by layering different mediums.Boy I had the best tomatoes.I miss that. You ladies are so blessed.lv sis.c

Greetings in the precious name of Jesus. I am a stay at home Mum. I have been for the past 12 and a half years now. Though in that time I did look after other people's children while the parents went to work, but the past two years I have had my own little girl to look after which has been a blessing.
At the moment I am usually home on Mon, Tues and Fridays. The other days I have ladies prayer and I run a playgroup at our church where mostly non-church goers come with their children. The other days I have plenty to do with my husband a shift worker, he is home a lot during the week, but thats cool:) . l After the end of April I will be looking to do some bibles studies with a couple of people who are in need of them, but until then I will be spending my spare time sewing some bridesmaid dresses for a friend who is finally getting married.
I do have a very busy life but at the moment it seems pretty balanced. I wouldn't change it for anything. But if I had to I would look for a job in the nursing profession again, as they are in great need of nurses here. I would also like to get more involved with the deaf community here in my city. I am learning sign language now and aim to go into a course for interpreters in the next year or two. I spend a lot of time with peolp who are deaf, so my signing seems to be coming on really fast. Good, I don't know about, but they seem to understand me!!:):):)
The Lord has blessed me sooooooo much over the years with three beautiful girls, and they keep me busy with their differnt needs and my husband to I try and keep happy too, so it is quite an interesting and challenging life I lead.
I feel for those Mums (Moms) who have no choice to work, I am sure the Lord blesses you as much if not more than those who choose to stay at home as you have two jobs to do!! Jesus blesses you with wisdom and strength to juggle these jobs.
I take my hat off to you and pray for those I know who are doing this in my church and those I know out of church too.
I had better close this post as it is getting too long.
I look forward to reading posts from here.

"........As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

I was a stay at home Mom for 12 years. I loved it for the most part. I now have to work, but I work in the their school, so I see them all day, and then go home with them in the afternoon.

There are such blessings in seeing your children grow before you and not miss out on anything. I honor each man who works hard and enables their wives to do this!

I hate how society looks down on stay at home moms.In fact
women are so pressured to go out and make a stake and get a carreer.I know I felt the pressure.I do have a carreer but I chose one condusive to family life.I work as a nurse in the private sector for a company. But honestly women have so much authority in their role as mothers.Did any of you know that in order for someone to be considered a Jew the mother has to be Jewish.Because it is said that if she is not the child will be raised pagan and not Jewish.Mothers are really powerful weapons in the hands of God.lv sis.c

I was blessed to be able to stay at home for 17 years. Then, in a fleshly condition I was offered a job and so flattered that someone wanted me for something other than wiping noses and behinds, I took it without thinking how it might impact my family.

Within the first two years my daughter rebelled, got into drugs and ended up pregnant at 16. I know all of that could have happened with me at home, but would it?

I worked a total of 4 years and then petitioned God. I cannot be the Christian, wife, mother, church member, that I WANT to, DESIRE to be and give 40 hours a week to some place else. He transferred my husband 350 miles from our "home", but the move allowed us to downsize, liquidate and otherwise get ourselves better situated financially were my job became unnecessary.

And again a child was blessed, because it made me free to tend to my GrandDoll while her mother worked and attended college.

Isn't He WONDERFUL?

I have been a stay at home mom, but because my husband is in prison I am going to have to go back to work.

However, I have been blessed by finding a job that only requres me to work 24 hours on the weekend so that I can still homeschool my children during the week.

You have my prayers. I know this must be difficult, but He is making a way. I will pray for health and strength and encouragement for you and your children.

He will reward you for putting Him and the children He gave you first.

I was very blessed to have a husband that demanded as soon as I became pregnant that I stay home to raise the children. I actually wanted to go to work just so I could have a break :p but I'm so thankful he said no and I didn't. God has always provided although it has been very tough financially at times.

I homeschooled my oldest from Kindergarten thru second grade until I enrolled them in the ACE shool here.
I had time to bake, try new recipes, bake bread, scrapbook, hang out with friends, actually keep up with laundry and housework  , and much much more. I used to have time to prepare meals and actually have company come over for dinner. I miss those days! :(

I have been enrolled in school the last two years but I know this is what God has wanted of me. My children are all enrolled in the Christian school right here on campus which is just down the hall from me and it's only for 5 hours a day. I'm home with them every evening.

I do miss all the "free" (yeah right!) time I had before school but I know this is just short term then I'll be back to homeschooling and being able to get things done around the house and maybe even bake some homemade bread once again or maybe do some scrapbooking (something I haven't had time to do in nearly 2 years)

maybe do some scrapbooking (something I haven't had time to do in nearly 2 years)
My husband didn't demand it or expect it -- morning sickness (four months worth ALL FOUR PREGNANCIES!! :( ) sidelined me and gave us plenty of time to contemplate it. We just agreed we didn't want anyone else that involved in our child's life. By the time the second one came, it was no longer an issue because day care would have eaten up all I could earn!

But I do appreciate the lengths he went to to provide for us so it wasn't a constant issue. And thank the Lord who made it all happen.

and btw -- Hello fellow scrapbooker!!! Altho' I'm like you, I've been to busy to do much at all for the last year. Hopefully after we relocate this summer.

Morning sickness put me out of commission nearly the whole pregnancy for my first two. That would've been enough to cause me to stop working but after my first was born, I seriously wanted to go back to work just so I could have a break. My husband was the one who took the stand and said no one else was going to raise our children.
After that, I was so spoiled he wouldn't be able to beg me to go to work. :goof:
Plus the child care costs had a lot to do with it.

ABI is a wonderful place! Glad to meet you fellow scrapbooker.

I'm a SAHM wannabe....gonnabe as soon as hubby is out of school and working where he can support the family.

I've also considered doing scrapbooking, but realized it can be somewhat expensive and it does take a lot of time I simply don't have....

I do love homeschooling, though. :)

*****We both agreed that the only two people on Earth that we would trust to not HARM our kids was our mothers and (a) mine was 500 miles away, (b) his worked full time and (c) we weren't all that thrilled with the job they'd done raising US!! :grumble:

Like a lot of other hobbies, it can be as expensive or inexpensive as you want/need it to be.

What do you do while your children are schooling? I know several homeschooling mothers who scrap at their desk while they oversee the children working.

I didn't THINK I would have time for it either, then I realized how much it helped me get thru a very stressful work week. I had one of those jobs were the only time I saw folks was when they had a problem. If I could fix it -- I was their new best friend. If I couldn't -- they didn't know how I ever got hired in the first place!!

I would come home and get dinner started...while it was simmering I would sit down and scrapbook for half an hour or so. It was SO relaxing!!! Better than a nap or a Calgon bath. Because it allows you to switch on the creating/designing part of your brain and rest the part you usually use in the course of a work day.

My husband says it's probably the only thing that kept me from "going postal" in my job!!

I am a stay at home mum. My husband and I wouldn't have it any other way. Last year I was sooooo busy I was hardly at home. I had one child at school, one at preschool and I was expecting the third (and boy did I whinge the whole nine months!!), plus I had a lot of commitments at church. Since giving birth to my beautiful little boy early this year, things have slowed down somewhat and I'm enjoying the more relaxed pace of life. I still have things I need to do, but I can feel myself breathing again after last year and I'm enjoying the feeling.

When I first started having children, I prayed and asked God to allow me to be a SAHM. I wanted to homeschool 'em and the whole nine yards.

Well, twelve years later, I can say that I have been both a SAHM and a working mother, and I can tell you this much: I love being here when the kids get home from school. I love having the house work and laundry caught up on and I sense the kids love it, too.

When I have to work, my two oldest have to latchkey it until I get home. They do alright, but they prefer I be here.

I like being home, but I realize that my financial situation is such where we won't survive for long if I do not work. When family situations get a little rough, or circumstances arise in the household that require my attention and time off, I don't work. This does not bother me b/c being a single mother, things always, always come up. I have determined that any employer I have must understand and realize that I need much flexibility and the capability to take time off whenever needed to tend to home and family matters. I am registered with many temporary employment agencies for this reason. Working temp allows me the flexibility I need with young children to take time off when necessary. It is not the most stable, but in this and all things, I am learning to do what I can. What I cannot do, God does. He is Our Source and Our Supply. He is Our Provider.

And He has never, ever, failed us yet!

Hats off and much love to all SAHM!!!! The Hand that Rocks the Cradle rules the world!

Love,
Sis. Wenona

I admire any mother that can work and run her household. I am such a disorganised person that I honestly don't think I could cope with doing both.

I worked with a woman who had three girls. She was a single mum and her girls went to ballet, music and all kinds of sports. Not just on the weekend either, but also through the week. She was a devoted mum and she gave her best to the workplace too. Amazing!!! I wasn't married then but even so, (knowing myself as I do) I admired her immensely.

Nah...you just have to be a C.A.S.E. worker. (Copy and steal everything!) :ninja: LOL

I considered myself to be VERY creative and not in need of idea books or magazines. After a couple of months I realized all my pages looked alike. I just kept changing the colors!!!

Finally decided to buy a magazine....boy, did I have a LOT to learn. I'm so bad, I can't even correctly copy a layout in a magazine...somehow they always veer off into some style of my own....but it works for me.

Keeps my pictures safe and my hands busy and a song in my heart remembering all the special times and blessings.

Well, for his independent studies I am at work. I get up around 5:30am. Leave for work at 6:30am and come home around 5:00pm. There are a few subjects that we do together. Those are done after I get home and we've eaten. Thankfully, my husband usually does the cooking.

I suppose if I scrapbooked a couple of times a week for a 1/2 hour or for a few hours on the weekend I could do it, but at the present time I don't exactly have a place to put my things where they wouldn't be misplaced or messed up. If I stopped mid-project, I'd have to store everything, but I should be getting more space for my stuff as soon as as hubby gets a new computer desk for the computer he is building that will exclusively be his. I got an idea I would have to run with it till I was done. Of course I am not the most crafty, creative person in the world, so there's not much for me to turn on. Besides, after work and doing schooling, I like to turn my brain off sometimes. LOL

I'm really more of an organizing creative type than a crafty person, but it's not like I've really gotten my juices flowing for scrapbooking yet, so it might be different since scrapbooking is organizing creatively -- not just being crafty. Maybe I'll look into fooling with some of my stuff over the weekend now that you've got my interest up...

I must not be doing something right.
I am so blessed to finally become a stay at home mom for the past 2 years now.
I had BIG dreams...I was going to plant flowers, do a garden, have the most meticulous home, hahahahahahaha.
Though I still planted a garden it only consisted of 3 tomatoes plants, and while I still planted flowers, it was ground cover because after all who time to weed it and as far as the meticulous house.....lol lets just say if you come to my house dont surprised if you see a dust bunny. (Though let me say right here and this alone could start a whole new thread...I wholeheartedly believe a woman should keep her house clean! no reason for dirty homes)
I found myself more busy sometimes now then when I was working. And plus my son is now 13 so that also includes...basketball, after school activites, volunteering at the school. On top of being at church 4 times a week (Not including sundays) for activites there
But would I change it ? ABSOLUTELY NOT :spin:
Though I might not have all the *free time* I anticipated, I have the TIME.
To the ladies that have to work....God bless you! I know most of you long for the day when you can do the same thing and until then I pray God gives you the desires of your heart.

God bless
Renee

Oooh, you said that SO well!!! Scrapping IS "organizing creatively"....can I borrow that line to work into my classes?? :)

There are lots of "totes" and things out there specifically designed for scrapbooking. Before I had the space, and before I collected so much stuff!, I had everything I needed in one smallish, wheeled suitcase-sized tote. When we bought our last house AND had a child move out, I have an entire room now dedicated to my scrapping and sewing....I call it my STUDIO! Sounds impressive, huh?? Gave that first tote to my daughter.

Anyhow, if you have any questions on storage solutions, or tool recommendations, etc.....just ask. I've made enough mistakes, trial and error style!, to consider myself qualified to advise!

Besides, I just love turning "newbies" on to my favorite hobby!

Yes, but isn't "dirty" a relative term?

I think there's as much room for diversity in how (clean vs. cluttered, decorated vs. ho-hum, luxurious vs. humble) our homes are as there is in our hairstyles or manner of dress.

No right or wrong way. As long as you're not attracting bugs or creating a fire hazard! LOL

Seriously though....I'm fairly immune to "clutter"....a sock on the floor, newspaper on a chair. But I can't stand it if my cabinets, closets and chests haven't been cleaned out in the last six months!! Now my best friend -- her house always looks like the Better Homes and Garden's photographers are about to arrive at any minute....but she has things from the Reagan Adminstration era in her closet!

Each of us thinks WE are "right".

Really, I think whatever works for you and your family is right.

But don't mind me, I'm a www.FLYlady.net (http://www.FLYlady.net) drop-out! Just couldn't bring myself to wear the shoes all day! :D

Sis, you are right.
Im sorry for not making myself clear. I am like you...my house is clean but there are days I choose to *play*
What I meant by *dirty* was, I know ladies who leave dirty dishes for days, laundry is to the ceiling, cant hardly walk through the house for the mess and then wonders why their husband never wants to be home.
But like I said, that could start a whole new thread :)
For me, Im just me..no frills and lace..just plain and simple :)

And I've been thru spells like that. Depression -- whether its an external "spirit" that taunts us or a bio-chemical condition, I don't know -- hounded me for years. There were times that a shower and brushing my teeth was almost more than I could handly in a day.

I sat my husband down and explained to him that he never needed to point out when the laundry needed doing or the dishes were piling up, because I was all too aware...(one of the symptoms of depression for me was focusing on the negative in my environment)...and beating myself up about it internally. And that the kindest thing he could do was to jump in and pick up the slack (and get the kids to help him) until I was able to resume control. It might be a few weeks or a few days.

That's what I think when I run into one of those houses you described. And there are a lot of them out there. I think its just another attempt by the Devil to weaken the family!

Now, as to "frills and lace" -- I'm all there!!! My "dream house" would be a fully restored Victorian dripping with brocade and laces -- with all the modern conveniences, of course. My friends tease me...they'll point to the most frou-frou displays they come across and go "Looks like PAM to me!" LOL

Yes, Sis..now in a case where physical, mental or even spiritual handicaps are present..I am very sympathic and I also have meant a few that went through that and went over to help them.
Im just speaking mainly of the housewife..who dont care. She would rather sit around and eat bonbons all day (and who wouldnt LOL) Go to the mall all day and does not care if the house is clean, if the dinner is cooked or if the husband and/or kids have clean clothes. Plainly speaking...just pure lazy.
As for the frills and lace...oh yesssssssss how I would love it..but I have decided to keep the plain and simple look until the KIDS(including husbad) grow up...LOL LOL LOL My word they run through this house chasing each other ! BUT....I wouldnt change it...we all laugh together and one day when the kids are out on their own they will tell their kids why they are happy. :)

Pam<----bought a new Creating Keepsakes today!

I started scrapbooking in 1999 after my son was born but I didn't really get into it until 2001. That's when I really got the hang of it. I too ordered the magazines to get ideas or look online (which is free  )

Apo Kitty, it doesn't have to be expensive. I'm a very frugal person and won't spend a lot on anything. I watched Walmart and Michael's for sales on paper. I started out with just one pair of scissors then bought a whole punch ~ I've gradually added more as I found them on sale or inexpensive ($1-2).

Glue is inexpensive at Walmart. Acid-free stickers are only $1 a pk there also. My friend got me into stampers. I bought a couple inexpensive ones thru her Stamping Party. Then found a 2 tubs worth at a garage sale which I dickered the woman down on the price for the whole thing.

I recently bought some chalks (it has a brush) which I use to brush onto homemade cards ~ really adds to the background look.

I store a lot of my stuff in a 3 drawer wheeled bin. Then I put the rest in storage totes under my bed so I know exactly where it is.

I think the scrapbooking thing is cool- my mother-in-law is doing it. I don't think I have patience for it- I have to have a purpose for my hobbies even. My hobby currently is sewing- but I make clothes for my kids! (And sometime I'll make a quilt). I would end up having digital pictures on my hard drive, and create a nice background for them on the computer, and printing them out! It's more "efficient"! Scrapbooking is so much nicer in the end though- go for it!

I like the studio thing. I'd love to have a room like that. I don't sew either. My husband looked at me funny when I told him I wanted a sewing maching so I can really learn how to sew. He didn't think I'd want to do that, but I told him I'd like to make my own clothing. I have somewhat limited experience in that department.

I have seen people swear by flylady. Personally, I wouldn't put up with another woman telling me how to clean MY house. I'd have a thing or two to tell her. LOL

Oh, but, though I miss the little boogers, it's been easier to take care of the house since our dogs took off a couple of weeks ago.... They tracked so much dirt and had their fur all over the kitchen.

And you can ask my son. He says I'm "anal retentive" about keeping the house clean. And my response is, "What's wrong with that?"

I've also taught people to sew -- teaching a friend right now. My mother was a seamstress so I grew up around it....every day people came and went with bags of fabric and patterns.

Here's the problem with people learning to sew. They want their first creation to be Easter Sunday worthy. I use this analogy -- would you have wanted to chauffeured the President the first week you drove? How about serve your first meal at the White House?? Y'gota practice, practice, practice!

My first suggestion is buy a couple of yards of a cute holiday print, or something to match your kitchen and cut it into squares and hem them for napkins. After you've done a few dozen of these!!! (Give them as gifts!) Buy some flannel baby prints, but in 36" squares and hem them into receiving blankets. You'll have a stash of shower gifts.

By then you'll be really comfortable and know your machine. That's when you can graduate to something like a pull on skirt or pajama bottoms.

Do NOT try to install a zipper or collar or cuffs or buttonholes on your first garment...to do so is to invite tears of frustration!!

You gotta work up to those things.

Congrats, Sis. Taylor, on the new addition to the family!

Sounds like you, too, got your hands full! May God Bless you and your family!

Thanks Sis Wenona and Marie. Actually, I can boast of one of the best sleepers in the world. At 8 weeks old he is just about sleeping through the night (actually, he slept from 6.30pm to 5.30am two nights in a row the other night). He is undemanding and, to top it all off, he is very smiley.

How's that for bragging on my son (as you Americans put it?)

If I knew how to attach a picture I would show him to you. :goof:

I wrote a speech in college on how to spend $500.00 and not have a thing to wear. I included the cost of the sewing machine, the supplies and all the clothes that did not turn out like I expected, (the culottes that were too short, the skirt that I had sewn together with half the material wrong-side out, the blouse that I had outgrown before I had finished it, etc..).

I went to a wedding that one person had sewn half the dresses and someone else had sewn the other half and one person had sewn all the dresses she had made with the material wrong-side out. The bride was absolutely in tears.

I'm in Dallas, but will be relocated to Houston before summer's out.

Like I said -- hem napkins or baby blankets until you can really sew a straight line and handle the fabric without stopping and starting too much.

Remember when you learned to drive and you were so tensed up watching the lines on the road and your speedometer and giving just the right amount of pressure on the gas and handling the steering wheel just right. Then a few months later you hopped in the car and pulled into Sonic and didn't realize how you'd got there!!! Like, WOW!! "I'm a driver!"

You have to get that comfortable with a sewing machine before you'll ever produce anything you're happy to wear. So, go sew some napkins.

Oh, and I have a little sewing project/volunteer project that is relatively inexpensive, GREAT practice AND a good deed!!! Let me know if you want more info on it.

Very funny, Melody....I know a LOT of women with similar experiences. It's simply just setting their expectations too high. It can happen to anybody.

And weddings! Oh, don't get me started! My best friend got married in 1978 -- each dress was made by a different seamstress -- each one was a little different. Not glaringly, but I wouldn't have liked it.

My mother made all 14 dresses for my wedding!! (My gown, the miniature brides, 4 bridesmaids, 1 flower girl, 1 candlelighter, 4 servers, 2 tea girls and 2 rice bag girls.)

I won't do a dress for a wedding unless I do ALL the dresses. It's just a rule I have. Had a bad experience a few years ago so I stick to it now.

Where in N.O. do you live?

I'm from Bogalusa.

In fact, I put 15,000 miles on my car since July going back and forth to there!

I'm a very nervous passenger, so I usually volunteer to drive everywhere. I don't trust the person I'm riding with to watch the road and other drivers as well as I do! So I can understand your position. I might've been a non-driver, too. But my PapPaw stuck me on the tractor at about 10 and had me steering it across the field while they dug potatoes behind me. Then when I was 13, my dad would take me to work with him all summer long. He was a salesman for a wholesale foods company. We went to every little Tasty Freeze or mom and pop grocery from Baton Rouge to New Orleans to Gulfport to Jackson -- a different route each day. He'd let me drive while he did the paperwork -- totaling the sales, etc. That way he didn't have to sit for a couple of hours at night and do that.

I got paid in Fritos and Dr. Pepper and Fudgesicles and anything I tho't I wanted to eat! LOL

I would rather sew than knit or crochet. When your sewing you see the results much quicker than knitting or crocheting. I started on simple curtains. After seeing the results, I was hooked! The hardest part was taking the first cut in the fabric! I was certain I would ruin that beautiful fabric! Like Nana said if you start with something simple and begin to see the results of what you have done with your own hands, in such a short time, it is very encouraging.

Sister Burning I think she was talking about making cloth napkins.
What is a really neat idea is to get either blue and white or red and white material and find a small basket with a handle that you can also make a bow for the handle. Then sew up a dozen or so dishcloths or napkins to fill and sell at the church craft sale. That would make great extra funds for missions.lv sis.c

Burning
Hi, Burning.

I have a pattern for a simple doll-sized, raglan sleeved gown pattern that can be made for preemie babies. If you live near a county hospital (or wherever the uninsured have to go) I can almost bet the social worker in the NICU would be happy to see you bring in a bag of these little goodies.

I had requested the pattern many years ago and done nothing with it. Then about 10 years ago, a friend's daughter gave birth in one of these hospitals. When I saw the babies there, I was motivated to start sewing. I would go in with a garbage bag full at a time! (I'm not suggesting anyone take it to the extreme that "I" did!!

Anyhow, the nurses just love it. They get very attached to their little charges -- seriously, some of these little angels aren't much bigger than a BARBIE DOLL!!! They tell me that when the parents have clothes, in which to dress their babies, they visit the hospital more often, come earlier, stay later, hold their babies more.....clothes make them seem more like a baby and less like a science project!!

I've sewn for many years, and made lots of things for church sales and such...NEVER have I ever done anything that was SO fulfilling. I prayed and sang as I worked on them and knew that each little piece was going to impact someone's life. I have one very special testimony I'll share in a later post if someone will remind me.

Anyhow, if you're interested in learning more or getting the pattern, send me a private message with your email address.

I am a stay at home mom and have been for the most part of my 24 year marriage. There were occasions where I would take a job to help make ends meet from time to time, or just to get out of the house to keep my sanity. Of course that was before I gave myself to the Lord. Now I'm perfectly content staying home. I have 4 children, my son is married and I have a grandson. My oldest daughter is in college, my middle daughter is a senior in high school and my baby girl is 13. I now keep my 1 year old grandson and he is a joy. The one thing that I've allowed the enemy to use on me is that I'm not winning any souls because I don't get out. It does really bother me that I don't get a chance to witness because I don't get out alot with the baby and when I do I'm really focused on the things at hand. I really have been burdened lately about this and I'd like some ideas if you all have any on how I can roll all these things into one. I don't want to meet Jesus with my arms empty. I want them to be full of souls.

Sister how about taking that baby and going to the market or mall with a stroller praying for a chance to witness? I did not let my baby stop me from witnessing. In fact we headed out most every saturday with the outreach team to door knock.Hey you have an advantage because people like cute little babies and will stop and talk to you.Theres your chance.I said also a mall because I don't know what the weather is like where you live. Also there are groups in your area such as craft groups etc that you could possibly join to meet women. There are also volunteer groups that do things like take boxes to the needy etc.or maybe check and see if there is a homeless shelter or a soup kitchen in your area that you can give maybe one day a week to.
Ask your pastor if there is an area you can work in the church. It takes a crew to get service going believe me and that is soulwinning. In fact being faithful to services is soulwinning because when visitors are there the more people in church the more at ease they feel to worship.lv sis.c

The devil is a liar! If you are raising your family to know and serve the Lord then you are "winning souls" daily.... And just think of the souls they will win because you raised them in such a way...Stomp his head with that!

BurningforJesus started a playgroup in our church two years ago (I think) and she uses it as an outreach into the community. Quite a few women from the neighbourhood bring their small children to the playgroup and they do organised activities while childrens christian music plays in the background. Burning uses the opportunities she has to witness to these mums.

Also, Handmaiden4him, if you are a grandma you are at an advantage too because a lot of women (at least in Australia anyway and I assume it's similar in the USA) are looking for some kind of mother/grandmother figure in their lives.

And I agree with Kitty, ministering to your own family is also important in terms of witnessing. Bringing them into the Kingdom is important too.

Hi there, those who speak a different accent from these Aussies
(I do too, by the way, (a different accent), you all will be wondering what a playgroup is.

We have a lot of stay at home Mums around the neighbour hood, they don't know anyone, some don't have families here in the city either so they are quite isolated most of the time.

Here in Australia, we have playgroups where those Mums and their children, up to school age can meet once a week, in a certain place, be it church, school or home and have a cuppa, let their children learn how to get on with each other  and the Mums get to know each other and become friends and find out there are more Mums like them than they realized. The friends ships can last a life time. I have friends from the playgroup I went to when my 17yr old daughter went when she was little.

This playgroup is one such like that. Mums don't know any one and come to the playgroup which is run at church. The other day i went to a birthday party of one of the children and just observed the Mums and Dads that went. They are getting to know each other and going to each others homes for cuppas now. Thank you Jesus. The opportunites are endless, for witnessing. There is a peace in that playgroup session like no where else. One Mum asked for prayer for her child. Another wanted to know why this playgroup felt different. I said that it's because Jesus is here too, or words to that effect. That has opened the door for more discussions to start up later.

We have all tyes of Mums coming, a couple of Muslims come too and are quite comfortable with coming.

It is really exciting what is happening. :)

There is an older couple that have started a "Coffee & Scream" shop around the corner from us. It's a coffee shop with a play room for the kids. There is a section of the building enclosed in glass, with a few tables and chairs, where you can sit and have coffee. Then another larger area with all kinds of play gyms, a train, coloring tables, etc and some tables for the parents. The coffee counter is in the smaller section, but there is a window between the main room and the play room for the parents of children playing. It's an awesome idea!

handmaiden4him, I felt the same way for years. My pastor and his wife told me what these other girls have said. You ARE soul winning! In fact you have one of the most important ministries there is! Hi, I am new here and also new in Christ. I was baptised in Jesus Name, Sunday before Christmas. I have 4 children: a 1 yr old daughter (Emilie), 2 yr old son (Durendal), 4 yr old step son (Wesley) and a 5 yr old step daughter (Ashley). I care for my step children as they cannot see their mom.
I don't work anymore. I praise The Lord for all my children. I am so blessed. I live in Texas but I am from France. The Lord send me to Texas far from everyone I know to seek Him! I am going to the nicest church! I am married to an american. I am so happy I found this thread!

Four kids under six!!! How wonderful that you have Jesus in your life! :goof:

I had four under nine -- so I know from whence I speak!

Where are you in TX? A couple from my church in Garland, TX just recently went to France as missionaries. Being from Louisiana I have a fondness for the French and deeply regret not studying the language while in school.

Welcome to GNC and welcome to the Body of Christ!

Maybe you can email them. If they can't reach your mother, I pray that someone will.

You're so very welcome. Sister Schobert's sister (and family) and Brother Schobert's parents, sister (and family) all attend our church.

The previous missionary to France -- Kathy Miller -- is also closely associated with our home church. (She's now in Morocco, Tunisia and Algiers.)

Both the Schoberts and Sis. Miller have a very deep burden for France. I try to remember to pray for them every day.

Next time I know any of them are going to be home, I'll be sure and let you know...maybe you can meet one or all of them.

I already got a reply from them. I understand how difficult it is to preach in my country as the law makes it illegal. God Bless Them!
My pastor's wife'smother likes to go to your church when she is in Dallas. I met this week end. She is from Longview.
By the way, I went and see Messiah in ALexandria!. Waow! Everyone needs to see it! I am speechless ( in the languages I know anyway) and in tears!

ok nanaRenan, I have been wondering but have got to ask! Do you go to the church there in Garland? I have visited there many times and you mentioned Sis Miller and I was actually thinking of contacting her just yesterday but.. if you go there or know her well or the Ross family would you please let me know. :) Wow small world... I grew up about 4 blocks from their church there in garland (well the new location that is) and visited that one and the other church under bro Drain many times too. Many of my dear friends went there or do still..

Love ya

Oh and for the real reason I was on this thread in the first place.. I too am a stay at home mom.. well sorta lol.. I have 4 kids ages 11.9,7 and 5 and my husband works away and he also is assisting at 2 churches at the time and I do music at one of them. I am secretary for one and I do the multimedia for one and trying to get it started at the other. I also used to in my free time design multimedia programs for the churches where i was in florida.

I also must have my pal talk time JK. Love pal but time seems to never be there anymore but it is awesome during the day to sit and listen in on arms around the world when I am working at the computer since I seem to never get to leave this silly machine (oh for modern technology) (so tired of typing this morning i had to backspace 10 times just to write that one word) I take the kids to the park 2 days a week after school and that is a wonderful time to get to witness. We live in a very small town so it is very easy... We have several of our *park play group* who go to or have visited our church. I am in Louisiana and I will tell ya... In the part where I am i think almost everyone here is apostolic... lol if not wait 10 min and you will meet one or 2 more. But seriously if they arent apostolic most of them are catholic and they need reaching out to! So make the best of it. The most beautiful thing ever said is when my 5 yr old who was 3 at the time,,, said mommy... lets go to the park.. I said well why Jaid we were just there.. She said... well there has to be somebody else we can tell bout Jesus :) those are the things that make you smile and know that you are doing good! We cannot minister beyond relationship and what better way to build a relationship than with other mothers with children and concerns just as you have.

In His love,
Sis T

Yes, Sister T....sorry I just read this post today....I've been busy the last week moving back to West Texas.

I went to Brother Drain's church in Garland when I married in 1979. In 2000, my husband was transferred to Midland. But last summer, due to circumstances too complicated to explain here, I moved back to Garland for a year. As it worked out, I was only there about 10 months. We are now preparing to relocate in the Houston area. (More specifically a 'burb on the South side.) But Garland will always be home! Soon as my hubby retires, that's where we'll go back...Lord willing.

I know the Ross family well. Sister Miller and LaGene are -- as far as I know -- returning to Garland this month and I expect to see them there when I go back for a dental appt. next week. If you'd like to send me a private message including your email address I'd be delighted to forward it to them.

Are you in La. now? Where...? I grew up in Bogalusa.

It is indeed a small world, especially in Pentecost!
