I wanted to post that hair link again..
www.longhair.org
There were some really great tips on hair care on that site.
I want to post a picture of my daughters so you can all see how beautiful Stephanies hair is.It is in great condition because she
uses a really large wide tooth comb we got at Sallys Beauty Supply.A friend recommended it.
I have recently learned that you can put a few drops of Tea Tree Oil into a bottle of baby shampoo and it will really cut down on scalp oil and also help to clean out any dandruff on the scalp.
smells a big wierd but then you can follow up with another kind of shampoo after wards.

OKAY, here's a problem I have with my hair that MAYBE someone can have some helpful hints on, GOD knows Ive tried, even researched on the Internet with little success, well, I DID find a home grown recipe for conditioner, that did NOT work, it was gross, for all the trouble I went to, it had honey, baby shampoo and olive oil, (I can't remember all the ingredients) so it was a dismall failure for me, I still have it in a spray bottle.
I have long thick naturally curly salt/pepper hair that feels so dry! course, and nothing has helped it seems. The history on my poor hair is that up until about 4.5 yrs ago, I would regularly die it to hide the gray. I gave up on dying it, let it go as GOD guided, and I fear it has permanent damage due to all the former abuse, THE ENDS of my hair are especially damaged/dry, about at least 4-6 in. of it., they are different shades of color, although its gradually blending in with the salt/pepper.
Anther factor could be my med's for hypertension, I'm pretty sure this contributes to the dryness. I have tried over the counter conditioner supposedly for abused and gray hair, not much better. Now I am trying a vitamins for hair supplement, time will tell I guess, I'm halfway through the first bottle.
I do so want to help my hair be the best it can be., although it does shed so-o-o much, I worry about that, and it has thinned at the top near forehead area -that scares me!
You KNOW hair is dry that even when its wet, its dry!
Any comments, or suggestions would be appreciated, as well as PRAYERS!

Have you tried a vinegar rinse? It can be kind of strong smelling for a few days, depending upon the amount of vinegar that you use; but it does create very soft hair.
Hope that you are able to find something to help.

Thanks AKACTS238, but plain ole vinegar? Yuck!but I'll try it just on the ends maybe.
I know this posting of mine, is not exactly biblically thought provoking, but since its entitled hair, well, I figured why not? Theres a lot of smart sisters out there, such as you, that can help promote long, beautiful hair, I'm just frustrated with mine, and this humid climate I live in does not help! When I was younger and lived further up north, Dallas, my hair was more relaxed, its dry heat there.
I'm trying hard to remember something my mom used to use on me when I was a mere child, (they were good at home remedies back then!) and I know it smelled strong, so that we had to find some good smelling conditioner to put over it, I'll have to ask her. Guess I've always had problem hair. Thats why my mom always had me keep it short, but now, no way. I just gotta live with it.
Thanx so much for your contribution, may GOD BLESS YOU even more!!!

Tufluv,
Thats right! Just plain vinegar! My mom used to use it on us when we were kids because it would cause us to have shiny hair... It really does work, and I still use it today. Though, not as often because I can't find an "oderless" brand of vinegar and the smell is rather strong when you use a few cups per rinse. I suppose that if you used just a capful or so, it would not be so bad.

Tufluv,
Depending on our DNA.Mine is German/French/Indian/Italian
Boy do I have hair and is it course.I use something I find in the ethnic section called Organic Olive Oil Sheen. It can be purchased at Walmart and Eckerds etc. Also a change in diet helped me tremendously.I dropped all the junk and artificial additives and added light olive oil to my diet and bingo...nice hair and skin.Don't forget a multivit and drink plenty of water..you will then have nice hair. Also if you are a person who is constipated alot make sure you use a colon cleanser. This really affects your hair and skin.lv sis.c

THANKS, SIS Cooper, I have often thought about trying those as you call ethic products, I figured if it would work for the type hair that a lot of african-american people have, then it might for me. Theres a member (inactive) of our church who is hispanic and her children are mixed with africanamerican fathers so she used a product for kids from that department and that is the most beautiful hair I've seen, EVERYONE stops to admire both her daughters hair. I think people would pay any amount for hair like that. You can't stop staring at it, wanting to touch it, and although some people think that type hair won't grow long, it has on them, it is partly like their mom's hair, which is like mine. They are so-so pretty, we miss them! She's gone on back to trini churches, or none at all, sad.
BUT, I fear any more chemicals on my hair, as a teen I would use the curlfree products wanting so badly to have straight hair! Talk about vanity! That stuff really burned my hair my mom stillhas pictures of how my hair looked then.
I will though try the olive oil you mentioned, and adding more olive oil to my diet, I already use it more than I used to which was none, mainly for pasta salads. I am definitely changing my diet already, it does take time to gradually eliminate JUNK as we know it, and some that which we don't consider junk. Water is my favorite beverage. My skin is no problem, never has been.
And as for constipation, never heard of it! Seriously, I often joke that I am the most REGULAR person in this world! Thank GOD for that! Thanks all for your loving help.

Tufluv,
I am glad to hear that you have changed your diet...Bravo!!
and hats off to you.I have noticed since I changed my diet how nice my nails are looking.my nailbeds are much pinker as well.Which means I am having much better circulation to my hands and feet.People don't realize how important this is.
As for me..I love water also.Every once in a while I go on a juice fast to clean the toxins out of my system.I have also heard that saunas are wonderful for this. Also just good old fashioned perspiration.I will be pushing the lawnmower soon.Amen!!!!
Also I want to tell you all not to over do soy.I have long known that too much soy affects your hormones. There are three kinds of dairy free milk that I know of.Soy,Rice and Almond milk.It is good to rotate them every few weeks.God bless you all!!!

I want to post this again in case I forgot. But if you really want to take all the chemicals off your scalp and hair try adding about five drops tea tree oil to a container of baby shampoo.Use this about once a week. Also Paul Mitchell has a Tea Tree Shampoo that is fantastic for oily hair.I take care of a patient that has to almost was their hair daily and using this has moved it to about three times a week.Thank God!!!lv sis.c

I have a hair problem I have always wore short hair and am fairly new apostolic The problem with my hair in letting it grow long which I have tried with no luck is that I am on several different medications such as prednisone They have damanaged my hair and it is very thin So when it gets a certain length I can''t do anything with it at all It just strings so to speak So I let it grow to a point at least on my neck some but I have no idea what I could do to get it long and be able to handle it
[
I also have arthrits quite bad and fibromylagia and short hair is easier for me to look after as reaching up to fix my hair gives pain
[
Any suggestion ladies on my problem I would like to have long hair but I think it is a lost cause due to the medical problems in volved and the damage caused by the meds and my health.

BTW: Update on my course feeling hair from earlier posts (if anyone might be interested?):
It is really nice now, and I think, due to those vitamins I've been taking..after finishing the whole bottle, I'm amazed! and I am on another bottle, about 1/2 way thru it...I'm pretty sure thats why its softer, a bit thicker where it had thinned out a bit..it has 100%Beta Carotene...plus other vitamins and minerals, (that my doctor had recommended) such as magnesium, copper, and zinc plus iron, B-12, etc., so Halleluyah! Also, though, I've been trying various products of shampoo, conditioner, I think this last one helped also...now its kinda hard to tell if it was just the vitamins!
Hmmm..oh well!
Its still a bit frizzy though, but not as much., now I just need to move to a humid-free climate! The cool weather helps a lot.:D
THANK GOD! He always supplies our needs if we just ask his help, I believe he helped me to find this one particular bottle of vitamins, I had searched several times, to no avail. One day-there it was!
This may help with any other hair problems as well!

Maybe one of you will know?? My oldest daughter has about 10 inches on the bottom of her hair that the hair feels like straw. I gave her a conditioning treatment on Sat night, and the rest of her hair absorbed the treatment, but the ends are still so rough. Her hair is not curly but has a lot of body waves to it, and is really thick. Does anyone know what is making her hair feel like straw?

Gee, thats how my hair felt! Like if its wet, it still feels dry...and mainly on the ends! it is much less so now. I had tried just treating the ends with various stuff, like hot oil, but it invariably gets into the rest of the hair no matter what, the hair that does not need it!
Maybe someone else has more answers, or ask your family doctor too. :)

Sister Forever,
Go and buy what is called Cholesterol and use that for a treatment on her hair.It is what salons use.My cousin learned to use this in beauty college.Another thing...do not blow dry her hair totally.Leave the ends wet.I have thick course curly hair and cannot blow dry it totally or it completely dries out.I have found using Sleek Look by Matrix which can be purchased at Salons. It is in an orange container works the best for me.Be sure to get her all the steps. It goes on sale from time to time.My mom was a hair dresser so I was very blessed growing up to have my hair done anytime I pleased. When she passed away I missed that.lv sis.c

I had to cut my daughter's hair because of that reason, Forever. She would cry and cry because the tangles would never come out of the bottom of her hair. The more I brushed, the more tangled it would become. It killed me, but I had to do it so she wouldn't do it herself! It's grown about six inches now since I cut it in Sept, and it's so far, so good. I used everything the salons told me to use, and nothing ever helped.
If cutting her hair isn't an option, try Biolage shampoo and conditioner. This helped for a short time on my girl's hair, but maybe it will have better results on your's.

SEARCHING:
How do you comb or brush her hair, top to bottom?
When I was in my teens, I would read a lot, and especially books on tips, all kinds, especially liking Hints from Heloise, to which I am subscribed by email; anyway, I read a tip that to untangle hair best, start from the botton up, ALWAYS, so I've done so for 30+years. It does make a difference, and is less painful!
I noticed something else in that as my hair is doing better now, I have not blow dried it in a long, long time, maybe that contributed as well. Only time is when I use curlers (rollers) on my hair to give it that "straight, sleek" look, I love it, but its so-o time consuming, and definitely not the natural look. And I have so much hair, it takes LOTS of rollers, and time to dry properly, I have a bonnet type dryer for that. I can't even remember the last time I used that. But I do love that look, I've always dreamed of!
Get vitamins! as I mentioned, it can help. ;)

I have already cut about 4 inches off a little while back, I am not cutting more, it would take about 10-12 inches to cut off the really dry part. If her hair was shorter, she would have curly hair. My ex had really curly hair, all the girls inherited some of his curl to various degrees. I really need to find something to work for her hair, I have a feeling she is going to face this with her hair forever.

Tufluv, I brushed her hair with special brushes, because the plastic ones would tangle her hair more too. I also brushed it from bottom to top. I would brush it wet, and I would brush it dry. Nothing I did ever seemed to matter. I cut it because I didn't want her hating her hair so much that she would just chop it all off in frustration when she got older. I hear no complaints out of her now, and she is able to care for it herself.

I wanted to share this with you all about long hair.
My daughter Stephanie has very long thick hair.I wondered if she would be able to manage it when she got in her early teens.
What I did was encourage her.Teens love to do their hair.I bought several velvet covered hot rollers kits and those travel hot sticks. One of the sisters came and took her to sallys and got her one of those big tooth combs with the handle.I wondered how she would use it.But honestly she combs through this thick hair with this big comb and it comes out great as it distributes the oil from scalp to ends.God gave us oil in the scalp area but we all wash it out instead of combing it through first. It also has alot to do with your diet.A diet filled with additives and high in unrefined sugar and starches will cause your hair and nails to be brittle and dull. When I changed our diet the difference in our skin, nails and hair is remarkable.Different medications and hormone fluctuations will also have an effect on your hair.I remember when I was expecting my children how nice my hair and nails were.It had to do with hormones.
But back to young ladies and hair.I allowed my daughter to do her own hair even if sometimes I kind of chuckled. And I did not make any wierd remarks. She now does not only hers but at camp does other girls and some of the ladies in the church actually come for Steph to do their hair.I also buy her magazines with different styles for long hair to do.It is not a trial for her.In fact when someone says what beautiful hair she has I can see the beam extend for miles.lv sis.c

Good Morning Ladies,
In reading through the posts on this thread, I was very surprised to find several of you who see cutting your hair(or your daughter's hair) as an option. I understand that there ar some who are new to the faith and just need to grow and learn, but I see that some of you who if I understand right have been raised in an Apostolic church are still cutting your or your daughter's hair. How can you justify this in light of I Corinthians 11?
Also, I have found that while some hair care products work or one and some work for another, prayer always helps. I personally like infusium 23 leave in conditioner. It conditions and detangles you hair. I have naturaly curly hair. My daughter whose hair is also naturally curly, but more coarse and dryer than mine uses olive oil for hot oil treatments. Hers is dry on the ends like some of you have mentioned and the hot oil seems to help it absorb the moisture. I believe we should do all we can to keep our hair nice, and then pray and let the Lord take care of the rest. Cutting is never an option according to the Word of God.

Sis Martha,
You will find that several women on this board do not believe the same as you do concerning 1Cor 11. It also isn't up for debate here on the women's thead I don't think. There is a thread on the general discussion area that deals with hair. It is the Ruth Reider thread about Power before the throne.
I was raised in this Apostolic faith, and I know almost as many women who don't trim their hair as I do know those that do believe in trimming it. The most important thing is to respect one another's belief or conviction.

I hope you were being serious in what you said above because I Corinthians 11 is just as much as much a part of the Apostles doctrind as Acts 2:38 is. Holiness or hell, hmm.....

The most important thing is to obey the truth and please God. However, I will refrain from posting on the women's thread. I thought it was a place where women could discuss issues that were important to them. I guess I was wrong.

Please don't take it wrong, its just that we all have gone over this ad nauseum, practically, in other threads, you may oughta check out our archives. Also don't think I am saying that we should NOT discuss this either, for I do agree with you on this subject, having not cut my hair for over 5 years now! ;)
BUT, as Forever stated, like so much else, that we already have gone beyond agreeing to disagree (incl. pants issue) and so at the risk for more 'cat?' fights, or hurting our sister's feelings, we pretty much leave it to personal conviction, although, the WORD of GOD IS clear to ME! Sisters,
I said I would not discuss this further on this thread, and I won't. I have been reading the thread on Ruth Reider's book and plan to comment there. I just want to say here, in answer to some of your posts, that anything I say on this board or anywhere else, is done in love. It is because I care for souls that I speak up. That is my only motive. I also want to say that I don't think we can ever just leave things to personal convictions just to keep from hurting someone's feelings, or more likely making them angry. A preacher does not stop preaching just because his message is rejected by some. He loves souls enough to keep telling them the truth in hopes that somehow he will eventually get through to them. There is also a good posibility that there are those here who have not read the archives and have not been a part of prior discussions the same as me. In any case, I will refrain from discussing it on the womans board, although it would seem to me the very place to discuss it. My prayer is that the Lord will lead and guide each of us into more truth daily and give us the grace and courage to walk in it and to reach out in love to help someone else to grow in wisdom and knowledge.

Sis.Martha,
In regards to uncut hair I view it as a very private matter between me and the Lord.In a marriage there are some things not permissable to discuss openly. The special relationship issues are one of them. That is why I have pretty much steered clear of the discussion of cut or uncut hair.Because then we get those who feel it doesn't matter arguing with those who feels it matters very much and a verbal war breaks out.If you read one of my last posts on the Ruth Reider thread I ask for someone to come on and actually discuss the book in depth. No one wanted to.They completely ignored the invitation and continued to argue over cut or uncut hair.I guess its more fun to argue than discuss possibilities in love.sis.c

I was chastised for discussing this subject here on this thread titled "The hait thing? :0) I would very much like to ask you in response to some things you said in the above post, but have said that I would not discuss it on this thread. Would it be possible for you to copy and paste it to a new thread wherever you think it would be apropriate to discuss it. I didn't mean to sound like I was chastising you. I just meant that in case you didn't know, there are several women that don't believe as strongly as you do concerning hair. I do believe in long hair on women.
The best place to discuss the hair issue is on the Ruth Reider thread.

Sis forever,
I was aware that there were many on this board who do not believe as strongly as I do concerning not cutting your hair. That is why I felt compelled by the Holy Ghost to talk about it. There may be those here who are new to the faith or to the board who would benefit from hearing the truth on this. Frankly, I was under the impression that you are one of those who has a different understanding than I do on this, since I read where you cut your daughter's hair. Maybe your understanding has changed since then. If so please forgive me for the misunderstanding. As far as the subject being worn out. The truth is always fresh to those who are hungry. It may sometimes be bitter in the mouth, but it is sweet as the honeycomb when we swallow it.

Sister Martha
How about a thread showing why scripturally you believe as you do.I for one would not argue.I have never seen a hair thread talking about this on the board that does not end up in name calling and one person treating another as if they are ignorant.
Maybe if you could just post your beliefs in the form of a bible study and we could just respond to the post and not the person posting it would work?
What about it ladies do you think we could pull it off and reply to just the post and not the person?

Well, that is an option, sure. And what you said, Sis Cooper, is what I HAD first hinted at, that usually only ill feelings arise from this type discussions, as sisters feelings are hurt, etc., so we all might do well to avoid topics that have been KNOWN already to lead to this, most of us here know each other already, and our views, but true, newer members might benefit from a NEW thread, with Sis Martha's lead.
I don't tire of hearing the biblical backing to long hair, I like my hair, now, its gotten better, and if it pleases GOD, thats all I need to know :D AMEN? PRAISE JESUS!

Hi everyone I am new. I wanted to respond to Phillis, My aunt has a fibromyalgia support group and alot of her members have greatly benefitted from Coral Calcium. It helps with the pain. Now on the hair topic Ethnic hair conditioners are Wonderful! My daughter's hair is extremely dry. One recommendation try it on an off day not when your headed out the door. Cholesterol is an excellent conditioner for damaged or dry hair. Our beauty school here uses it as a treatment.

Hi Ladies (and Bishop lol)
I have found that it helps to wear your hair up, with the ends tucked close to the head. This way the ends get the benefit of the natural oils on you scalp. Also, as someone mentioned earlier, never blowdry the ends.
Does anyone have any suggestions for dandruff? And split ends?
Also does anyone know of any books or websights for hairstyles.

Hi,
I'm new to this board and would like to add several comments...
1. I really would enjoy a civil discussion about uncut hair. I have read many many books on the subject (including researching the greek and hebrew) and can't come to a solid conclusion.
2. Now for the people that are having hair problems.....I too have VERY coarse curly damaged hair. However, I get comments all the time on how healthy my hair looks. The right styling products can hide a multitude of sins. I spend alot of money on my hair because we as Pentecostal women don't spend money on makeup, etc. In my expirence, over the counter products are not very helpful. You need salon brands. I would start with a deep conditioner like Nexxus Keraphix (not for every day use) On an everday basis, I would use somthing like Matrix Biolage. Finally, the most important step (looks wise) is to use some sort of glaze. I use Paul Mitchell Gloss drops. It can make my coarse hair look silky smooth and it seals the split ends. Hope this information is of some use.

Ddc, I'm pulling my site down to regroup. But when it goes up again, a feature entitled, Reviewing Ruth Reider, will have three parts and deal with her three-serial books beginning with "Power Before The Throne." The reason that no one responded is that most of us are bored with the subject. We already know where most of the regular posters stand on the issue, as you do. That's why everyone says, "Check out the Archives!"
Ya know what I mean? :bore:

Cool Bee Faithchild! :)
Marie, I used to have a dandruff problem a couple of years ago. My daughter has soraisis? sp? Anyway, it was recommended to us to get Selsun Blue. It works. The girls and I use it once a week, the rest of the time we use regular shampoo. Keep it on your scalp, because it is harsh and can be drying to the rest of your hair.
ddc101

First make sure the dandruff is not fungal.T-Gel can do wonders.
If you need to remove it from your scalp there is a product called
Ionil. It is in a brown bottle in the shampoo section. If anyone has
psoriosis this is great for removing the excess cells.
Consider if you have dandruff alot that it is probably caused
from your diet.Add olive oil to your diet and decrease the amount of cereals and grains. You may be harboring a fungus.Garlic taken orally daily such as Kyolic which is odorless will help. Also take a
cotton ball with Tea Tree Extract and apply it to the scalp before shampooing.
You may also try buying baby shampoo and adding two or three
tablespoons of tea tree oil and shake up.Use once a week. This is
also an antifungal.lv sis.c

Can some one give me a title of a book that has that sort of hairstyles for long hair that we can do too?
I will have to tell you something funny that happened with Emma and her hair a year or two ago but not rite now, have to go do a few things first and come back and sit down and continue reading these neat posts I am reading....be back soon......

I was lent a hair book the other day. It is brilliant. It was produced in America so you guys should all be able to get easier than me!!:):)
The title is: "Great Braids!" The New Way to Exciting Hairstyles. By Tomas Hardy. The ISBN nomber is 0-8069-8617-4
Sterling Publishing Co., Inc. New York.
I have been able to follow the instructions and there are some really neat styles in there and go into some really cool hairdos for the young people too.
DDc maybe your daughter and mine might like to email each other. Wouldn't that be neat??!!!:):):) Paula is 12, 13 in Feb.
I am looking forward to coming back later to night and read all the posts. I am finally learning how to use all the handy clickons which make life easier on here. The one I discovered this week were the unread posts - now I don't have to go through everything my self and also the one that takes you too the messages. I am still not sure which button I pressed but I did it!!:)
Praise the Lord. it is a lovely day out there. Pity I have to do the house work this morning.
Have a great sleep when you get there. Maybe some times you could say what time it is at your place so I can have an idea what hour of the day or night it is. I know you all live in different parts of USA and Canada so there are different time zones. Thanks for that. Have a wonderful Saterday. May the Lord bless you'all heaps. AHHHHH! Hi there, Sisters. Thought I would bring this up so we can have some up dates on some of the things you have tried for your hair after reading this thread. Also there are new members who might not have seen this really neat hair care thread and are having troubles with their hair.
I have a question for those who might knowand be able to help me out.
My 17 yr olds hair has started falling out in the handfuls over the past 5-6 weeks. She is on a reasonably healthy diets, doesn't eat the junk food as much and drinks lots of water. But what was once thick hair is as thin as mine. Any one have any suggestions as to what to try next? We are going to start back on our mostly raw food diet of fresh fruit and salads, though going into winter will prov a challenge doing this!!:) Is there one particular vitamin or mineral that is very good for producing healthy hair?
I would really appreciate some more input here. Thanks.

Sister,
I agree with Sis. Cooper that stress is probably the culprit here. I had that problem for years, hair thinning. There was little I could do to stop the stressors that were going on on the outside, but I started a regimen of not putting chemicals of any kind in my hair for years. I was able to pull this off by wearing hair extensions and weaves. I would not recommend that for any length of time in that I just learned from a hair dresser that wearing weaves for long periods of time adds another type of stress to your hair.
Who knew?
I also agree with Sis. Melody that it is a good idea to go to a physician, a dermatologist perhaps (?), to check her out.
If it is determined that this condition is not genetic and a simple adjustment in lifestyle is necessary, then..I humbly suggest the following.
I have been told that eating a protein rich diet will help repair damaged hair. I do not know how true this is, but adding things like fish, tuna, poultry, cottage cheese, egg (whites), yogurt, and fresh legumes (beans) to your diet will help.
Also, as a teenager, I used to deep condition my hair with eggs! I would whip it and pour into my hair and let it dry. Then I would wash it out and condition it with other conditioner as normal. I also used the eggs as a facial. It did wonders for my hair! My hair was most thickest as a teen when I followed this regimen.
Are there any stressful things going on in your daughter's life right now? More stressful than usual? Pray for her, that God will help her to develop a stronger relationship with Him so she can learn to cast all her cares on Him.
I pray that this helps!
Love,
Sis. Wenona

Yes she is under stress. Going to school at the moment and trying to make new friends at her age is very difficult.
I do pray for her, I have an appointment with the doctor in a day or two, but she is not going to recommend vitamin and mineral suppliments, ah!!??:)
I will try that egg thing. Sister Wenona, how often a week did you do that?
The high protein intake sounds good. Not great on the dairy thing but there are other things that are high on protein.
Thanks for that help sisters. I knew I would find some good help here.

I want to post a picture of my daughters so you can all see how beautiful Stephanies hair is.It is in great condition because she

I have recently learned that you can put a few drops of Tea Tree Oil into a bottle of baby shampoo and it will really cut down on scalp oil and also help to clean out any dandruff on the scalp.
smells a big wierd but then you can follow up with another kind of shampoo after wards.
This is a really good site. Some of those ladies have really long hair. I have never been able to grow my hair past the middle of my back. Even thought I haven't cut it in many years.

[
I also have arthrits quite bad and fibromylagia and short hair is easier for me to look after as reaching up to fix my hair gives pain

This is my research if it is worth anything. I used Pantene for years because it is supposed to be good for your hair. After I found a reply here about Pantene making your hair feel like straw, I quit. The straw head left. :) Then I decided I would go try some salon shampoos. Tried a few different store brands and bought some KPAK salon shampoo and cond. BIG waste of money. I went back to Renewal 5 from Wally World. 3 Bucks for a big bottle. It has made my hair the softest of them all and easier to comb out. I brush my hair before I take a shower also because your hair is stronger when it is dry. After washing, I use a spray detangler from Sally's called ION. It works good. Use Biosilk also but not every day. I always braid my hair before I go to bed so it is protected.

I use Suave Daily Clarifying shampoo and conditioner and it works just fine for my "normal-to-oily" scalp and "fine-limp-lifeless" hair.
I use Freeze-It hairspray....it's very fine and doesn't leave flakes. My daughter recently switched to another brand cause she liked the smell -- suddenly FLAKES EVERYWHERE!
I don't brush(or comb) before washing -- let the shampoo and conditioner do that work for you. Don't brush (or comb) while wet -- you'll only pull out and break off more.
Air drying is healthiest...I shampoo at night, towel dry and then loosely braid overnight. By morning it's only a little damp and brushes out beautifully with a minimum of hair loss. If I'm in a hurry, I will blow dry, but still I don't brush until it's mostly dry.
The only way for your hair to grow is to keep it in your head....too much brushing keeps it thinned down too much.

My hair is naturally curly and dry, too. I started using Infusium Leave-In
Treatment for damaged hair in it about 10 years ago. I follow that with a good mousse. The difference is night and day. I also try not to use the blow dryer whenever possible, and when I do I use the warm and low setting. I get compliments on my hair all the time. I have nothing but frizz if I don't do that. I was called "light socket" when I was in high school. Oh yes, I almost forgot. The Renewal 5x conditioner is the BEST!!! After just a few weeks of using it most of my split ends were gone. I hope it stays around a long time.

I have scanned this forum for an answer to my question. I either did not see it or it was not there. I guess this question would be focused more towards women who used to cut their hair before becoming Pentecostal. How did you stop yourself from taking sissors to it once it got a certain length, especially in the front (bangs)? I am not Pentecostal but have decided not to cut my hair anymore but I have to admit it is giving me fits. My bangs are at the length were I usually get them cut. I am trying not to though. I wear my bangs in tha poof (80's hair) I am a child from that era. I graduated hight school in 89. I am just getting tired of having to curl it every day. Any suggestions about clips, barrettes, etc.? I also feel self consicous about pulling it all straigth back and showing my forehead. I do not think it looks good for me personally. I have oily skin and oily hair. I quit wearing make up because to me it got troublesome to do and besides I always sweat it off. THe only thing that I could wear if I did was Merle Norman. If any one knows about that make up, you know that it takes forever to take off at night. It is really thick base. (think Tammy Faye Baker) you will get my drift. Any suggestions will be helpful. Emily, my only worthwhile suggestion would be to experiment with hairstyles until you find something that works with the longer length. Go to google.com or yahoo.com and do a search on "hairstyles for long hair" and you will find a lot of helpful sites with ideas and instructional photos, etc.
And as far as "keeping yourself from cutting it"..... I suppose you could throw away your scissors until your bangs get shoulder length? :icon_laug

poohbear, I know what you mean about hair giving you fits. It's really not in this transition stage for very long. Before you know it, it will be long and you will love it!! Before I quit cutting mine I would curl it every day. I got tired of doing it. Long hair is so much easier to take care of. You can pull it back or let it hang straight. The new straight, sleek styles are very attractive. You don't have to show much of your forehead. Come on out of the 80's, girl. I'll bet you'll love it and it's much easier to take care of. If we can help you with anything else, please let us know. It's very nice to have a newcomer here.

Well Emily.Firstly, I invite you to become one of our sisters in Pentecost. There is nothing as awesome in life as this Holy Ghost business. Take it from an eleven year church hopping veteran. And my dear, you have over half the battle won already. I tried for years to grow my bangs out. Couldn't get past the scissors either. One morning I bolted up straight out of bed at 6AM, not normal for this late riser. My brain screamed, "I wanna be Pentecostal". From that day forth, I did not cut my bangs even though I had not gone to church yet. I wanted what they had and I wanted it bad enough to take control over what the world had taught me. I have oily skin as well. I am sure you know how it feels to have your makeup fall half off your face by noon like me. What a blessing to get rid of that junk. My face feels FREEEEEEE. :) I use Clinac Oil Control Gel which has small capsules in it to absorb the oil. It is available at your pharmacy by order but no prescription is needed. It's about 13.00 a tube by Ferndale Labs. Glad you found us.

Oh Emily, I forgot. I used those things that pull your hair back from your face, the head band with the teeth. Once your bangs get longer, you can curl them into tendrils around your face. Go check out my picture under the photo thread. My face is very long and doesn't look good with hair away from it either but you can pull out hair around your face to soften the look. Now you can teach me your poof. Ha Ha Ha.

HATS!!!
:icon_laug Well, she said ANY suggestion!! :icon_laug
Seriously, Emily, welcome and know that many of us know EXACTLY where you are with the hair giving you fits! Whether you're Pentecostal or not, the Word of God is pretty clear that He wishes us to keep the scissors out of our hair in order to show our acceptance of His will in our lives.
That said, it is still a struggle.
Just think of it this way -- the HARDER it is to do what you believe God wants you to do, the more it is truly a SACRIFICE and that is when God honors it!
I've grown out my hair (including bangs) at least three times in my life. If I can make it past shoulder length, I've usually got it made. But it is hard before then. Just start to notice women around you who's hair is a similar length and different things they've done to style theirs.
One thing I really noticed the last time I grew mine out....every time I really got used to a length and proficient at styling it, I'd have a growth spurt and have to learn something new all over again! But don't be discouraged by that...just accept any growth as a blessing from God. Sisters who's hair won't grow much would love to have such a problem!!

Pooh bear, one of the hardes things to get used to after having bangs is
or a poof is the lack of heighth. If this is a problem you might try pulling the over grown bangs back and letting them sort of poof but securing with a small barrette and then cover the barrette with a stylish scarf or petty headband. I can assure you that it won't be long till you can do more with your hair. Also start weaning yourself off from heigth on the front because with very long hair and gravity it is just not easy to acheive. A hairdo I used to do when my bangs were chin lengh was to roll the bangs on hotstix pull the rest of my hair back in a low chignon then unroll the bangs and separate the curls letting them cascade (with directional help of strategically placed hair pins) over the top of my head to the knot of the chignon.

I am certainly not the one to give hairstyle lessons..lol.I simply part my hair on the side and pull both sides back with a hair band and roll the pony tail up into a bun with roller pins. Then I apply extra biosilk and make it shiney.I do from time to time do it up curly but I am part native american and have wild thick hair.lv sis.c

Hello, it's me. I want to thank all of you for all your suggestions. I bought some head bands to try to use and some small barrettes to try. I must say that this was not me a couple of years ago. I NEVER went out without my make up or hair done. I could not tell you now when the last time was I even had it on. I just got tired of wearing it. It is too much of a hassle with a 9 month old around. I am not saying that my son is my excuse. I quit before he was even born. I just could not see me wearing it again. The only thing I use now is pressed powder ( invisible) to control the oil on my face. That is enough for me. As for Lellingsworth's suggestion for becoming Pentecostal, it has not been far from my mind. I am caught in the midst of conflict. Let me explain, I ,myself would have no problem converting. I have never really attended church alot in my life except for when I took my paternal grandmother to church. She was Pentecostal. She converted late in life. My dad's family is Cumberland Presbyterian and my mom was raised Church of Christ. They chose not to force religion on my sister and I. They felt like it should be our decision to make. I just happen to know that they consider Pentecostals to be very narrow in their way of thinking. I do not share their view. As there are men and women who are Catholic that become priests and nuns to show how committed they are to their religion, I see Pentecostals as people who take their convictions seriously and it is shown by how they dress, act. etc. I believe of more people acted that way the world would have a lot less problems to deal with. I have the upmost respect for Pentecostals and I do wish I was one. My dad's youngest brother is one. His wife is soo much fun to be around. They live in Ky so I do not see them often but I love it when I do. My husband was drug from church to church by his mom growing up so he is leery of churches now. He says he will go when our son is old enough to understand church but I guess I will have to see on that one. I have 4-5 Pentecostal churches in the town where I live. I just have a hard time getting a Sunday off to go. I work at Wally World (Wal-Mart) as a cashier and they love to work you on the weekends. I am going to try to go soon. I will have to get a dress first. I do not own one. I would not feel right wearing pants. Oh, well look at my just rambling on. I just I will sign off for now. I hope to hear from you all soon. Emily

Yeah, not having dresses to wear sounds familiar, lol
I did not even own one single dress, when my sister died 7 yrs ago, and feeling the need to wear a dress for that funeral, at least, my mom gave me the money to buy something appropriate. I was so lost spiritually at that point.
Not knowing that within the coming year, I'd be into the apostolic ways..and used that very dress as something appropriate to wear to church - something I'd not done in years! I had been baptist the last time I'd gone to church, couldn't even remember when that was.
BUt praise GOD, becoming 'born again' the REAL way this time - was healing for my soul. I had no idea about anything Pentecostal, hadn't the foggiest idea I'd ever be near such a church...much less become one..but praise GOD, that is ONE thing in my life, in a life full of regrets, that I have NEVER, ever regretted!
Welcome to this forum, Poohbear..we are blessed to have you here, I know that you...can have that wish granted..GOD loves you, and if you love HIM, its already a match made in heaven! :yeah:
Read the book of Acts this week, then show up this Sunday to a Pentecostal church near you..it is Pentecost Sunday, what better day to start!
Or even tomorrow night, would be nice...if as you say, it may not be feasible for you to get off on Sundays, maybe you can make Wed.eve services.
Pray, show yourself to be faithful to GOD, and HE will make a way for you to get Sundays off! I've seen this happen so many times for me and others..getting Sundays off., and even Wed's as I have both off right now!
There is no better goal in this temporal life, than to make time for the LORD, develop an intimate relationship with HIM...and get baptized into HIS name as is shown in Acts2:38..then be filled with the HolyGhost!
An abundant life like you've never thought possible, is at hand for you! My life is a perfect example, I know of what I speak, I will be praying for you, dear sister!
BTW: Pretty soon you'll have dresses, skirts flowing out of your closets, drawers, etc. It happened to me. GOD makes a way., and then you'll not remember how you ever lived without 'em! :D
Thrift stores can be a good place to start, one need not go broke to get started on new wardrobe. GOD bless you!

Pooh bear, I too have enjoyed your ramblings. A little funny, I have a son also he is 5 and has never seen me wear makeup. Hi Poohbear! I actually had to throw every pair of scissors in the house away! It's amazing how good you can get at tearing paper in a straight line! I had very short hair like a man about 7 years ago. Now it is to my waist and I love it. You can do so much more with it long. There are actually some long hair websites that give you tips on growing long hair and they are not Pentecostal either!

I started back to church a few months ago after five years. (My husband and I were both raised in church.) I have always kept a few skirts in my closet because I visited every now and then. (Do you know the feeling of sitting in the back of a spirit filled church service, watching people shouting and dancing under the power of God and thinking "I remember when I was apart of that", but just too proud to make a move?) I would try and try to go but because my husband didnt really want to go with me,I would stop. My daughter loved church. She was a bit unruly during service, but she would wake up on Sunday mornings at 6 am and say "Is it time to go to church?"
Finally right before the birth of my second child, my husband made the decision that we were ALL going back to church!!! I think the thing that made me realize he was serious was the whole time I was in the hospital, that television in our room did not get turned on EVEN ONCE. The tv was the way we always spent time together. When we got home, the television went out the door. It was such a relief . I could sit down and talk to my husband without having to wait until Sean Hannity or Bill O'Reilly quit talking. (I am in no way saying anything against those men. They seem to be in the select few that allow good sense and moral judgement to be their deciding factor in politics. AND NO I am NOT starting a political debate... lol!)
Oh, I have gotten off the topic havent I... anyway, We started going back to church and I had to search and search for something to wear every service. I think I wore a black skirt 3 services in a row.... and then when revival started.... I would start getting ready for church at 12 pm so I could hunt for clothes to wear.
My mother-in-law saw how upset I was about clothes and so when she went to yardsales she would look for things for me to wear. I cant say I'm just bursting at the seams with clothes but she has helped me out ALOT.
Every one repeat after me...
YARDSALES... THRIFT STORES... GOOD WILL.... FRIENDS OR FAMILY MEMBERS WHO LOSE WEIGHT (OR GAIN IT ) .....
or my personal favorite.. go shopping with Mom and look at every sale rack. Show her a $9.00 skirt and she'll think its such a great deal you just have to have it. LOL.
So Ive rambled alot. Please excuse me. I talk to a 4 year old and a 6 week old all day. Its a stress reliever.
April
oh about the hair, mine is about 3 inches below my shoulder blades. I cant wear it down because I dont think it looks good, but I wear it in a fan bun, a 'sock bun' or some call it my granny bun. Sometimes I even get fancy with a couple of curls.. Depending on the time I have to get ready. I have thought of getting a live in hairstylist. I dont think we have that kind of money.

There is a new conditioner out by Neutrogena for extensively damaged dry hair. I haven't tried it. It is in a tube though not a bottle.

My hair is naturally curly and dry, too. I started using Infusium Leave-In
Treatment for damaged hair in it about 10 years ago.
A combination of Infusium 23 Leave-In conditioner after every shampoo and Aussie Three-Minute Miracle Conditioner twice or three times a week does wonders with problem hair.
I've recommended it to several friends -- in church and not -- who've thanked me for it later because it helped them so much.
My daughter's using it now and TRYING to not blowdry and hot roller every day.

(Do you know the feeling of sitting in the back of a spirit filled church service, watching people shouting and dancing under the power of God and thinking "I remember when I was apart of that", but just too proud to make a move?)
Sadly, I DO know that feeling and don't ever want to feel it again!
I would try and try to go but because my husband didnt really want to go with me,I would stop. My daughter loved church. She was a bit unruly during service, but she would wake up on Sunday mornings at 6 am and say "Is it time to go to church?"
Sounds just like my granddoll -- only she wakes up EVERYDAY asking "Is it Church Day?"
Finally right before the birth of my second child, my husband made the decision that we were ALL going back to church!!!
Praise the Lord!
I think I wore a black skirt 3 services in a row....
It's okay -- I have two identical black dresses and wear them all the time, just throwing a different shirt or jacket over them each time. No one but me knows if its the same one or not!
Years ago my husband and I (both, also raised in church) were both backslidden when he decided we were going back to church. I decided I'd go and not be a stumbling block, but I knew I wasn't ready to hit the altar any time soon.
See, I was about 6.5 months pregnant and HUGE!
I had ONE -- exactly ONE maternity dress. I didn't want to buy or make more, because I was in my third trimester. So I literally wore the same dress to church every service, prayer meeting and social event from mid-January til late March! LOL
.
And THEN, I burned it!
poohbear
05-30-2004, 03:00 AM
I do not blame you for burning that dress. I know you were tired of looking at it, let alone wearing it. I did not even have a maternity dress when I was pregnant last year. I was on couch rest the whole time. I could not go anywhere or do anything. I have high blood pressure so when I got pregnant it had to be watched carefully. Praise the Lord though, I did not develop preclampsia or toxemia. I know the Lord was watching over me because I was alone for the last four months of my pregnancy. My husband got a DUI last June and spent the remainder of my pregnancy in jail. He was allowed a 48 hr pass to be present when our son was born. I am soo thankful for that. I know it was the best thing that could have happened but the end result has been great. He has stopped drinking. Next week will be one year. He goes to AA meetings as part of his rehab. I know if it had not been for that DUI, he would still be drinking and personally I do not know where we would be right now.I know that he wants our son to have a better childhood than he did. He knew his real father but was adopted by his step father when he was around 8. He had a hard childhood. I know he was abused but back then nothing much was done like it is today. His step father has apologized for it and now you could never tell that it was even like that. He has met his real father but does not think much of him. I know I am getting way off the thread right now but I just feel led to tell the story. I know he blames of mother sort of for not protecting him while he was growing up. I think she either was silent or took her husband's side. I can look at him now and see the hurt child that is still in him. I know some would say to let it go and get over it because you can not go back and change time. I just wish I could do or say something sometimes to help him. Their relationship is not the best. We do not live near his family, ( we are in West Tn, his family is in Middle Tn) Our son does not see his other grandma much, in fact she has only seen him twice since his birth. She was here when I had him and she was here Christmas. I wish I could smooth the road out between them. She is very religious also, which is okay but there are times when she tries to cram it down his/our throat.I personally do not like that. I like to talk about God and learn about him but I do not want it shoved down my throat, that really turns me off. I know I am rambling now and if this post was to disappear I would understand. I just wanted talk for awhile. I have been at work all night til midnight so now is my de-stress time. I love coming here and reading and talking. It has helped with my search for God. I am going to try some day soon to go to a church around me even if my husband is not ready just yet. I know he will go eventually. He will go when our son is old enough to understand it. I will talk to you all later. Oh, by the way, Happy Birthday to the Pentecostal Church!!!!!!

Don't be TOO hard on her, Poohbear. You won't understand until your children are grown.
When you are living for God and see your children either drifting aimlessly outside the realm of grace or running headlong towards destruction ... well, there's nothing that can describe the weight of that particular burden.
We always lived within a few miles of my in-laws, and 500 miles from my parents. My mother-in-law said and did some things that at the time seemed downright mean and nasty, all under the auspices of getting us to go back to church. My mother went to far as to tape a prayer cloth across the face of her backslidden daughter on a family portrait in her living room!!! (I was highly offended at the time.)
In hindsight -- much improved by getting back in church AND having adult children who have backslidden -- I realize what they said and did was done in pain and desparation and fear of their child being lost.
It is only because I believe fear and desparation are not "of God" but are tricks of the devil that I am able to resist the pain and still go to church and worship God. I realize that the more I pull, the more they resist....I don't want anything "I" do to make them pull further away from God. So -- I pray for the lost children of everyone I know and ask them to pray for mine....(See my signature!!)
But trust me, if I could turn them over my knee, shake them til their teeth rattled or snatch 'em bald-headed to get them to change their ways and commit their lives to God, I'd do it in a heartbeat. :realmad:

I am wierd, I already know this so you all can think this anyway. But this is how I dry my hair. It really does work good without damaging it.
On your way to work, with wet hair, get in your car and turn the heater on, aimed towards your hair, for 5-10 minutes full blast. It's the best diffuser you can get.... When you get to work, brush your hair, hairclip, voila............

SundaySchool, I have 2 beautician friends that said Pantene is the worst thing to use on your hair. It contains some sort of "plastic" that adheres to your hair. I hate to tell you this, but it's time to quit shopping at Wal-Mart for hair products. Go to a beauty supply store and tell them your problem. It will cost you more, but they will be able to help you. Good luck!!

Sunday School, Don't wash your hair every day you deplete the natural oils from your hair. Also, There is a conditioner at the beauty supply store that is called cholesterol it is in the ethnic hair section. Also have you ever tried hot oil treatment? I use a hot oil treatment on my daughter's hair once a week. Also anti-frizz cream or gel? Or how about a leave in treatment such as infusium?

I can sympathize with all of you who had to throw the sissors out of the house. I gave in and trimmed my "pseudo-bangs" (what I called the little whispy's that broke off around my face) into real bangs about 2 months ago, because I was so sick of not having bangs.
Well, wouldn't you guess that after 4 years of not having any bangs, the most irritating thing to me, is having hair on my forehead? They drive me nuts! And now I have to go to all the trouble of growing them out again.

well i wouldn't use any shampoo's or conditioners from the store, they usually contain alcohol..and all alcohol does is dry your hair.. use something like biolage or matrix and use the conditioner after you have washed and towel dried or even blow dried if u do that and dont rinse it out.. thats what a apostolic hair stylest told me to do.. and she said if the ends look dry... then there isnt' enought conditioner on them.. i too had short dried fried hair before i got in church, and have the same prob.. hope it helps..

Sundayschool, I read your post and even though I noticed you posted it awhile back thought I would respond just to let you know someone understands exactly what you are going through with your hair and I am sure there has been many others here that understood, too :)
I have natural curly hair. I never cut it after I got in Oneness Pentecost 30 years ago except for one mat that had to be cut out once and it was only the mat that was cut out. I was so upset that before I would let the mat be cut out, I had 3 beauticians trying to get the mat out lol.
On top of having natural curly hair, I have many health problems, most I was born with and it has been very very very hard for me trying to keep long hair although as I am getting older don't think I have to worry as much about it getting longer because it does not appear to be growing anymore.
Hope by now you have been able to find some tips for helping you with your hair. If so, feel free to pass them on :) But because of how difficult it is for me with my health taking care of my hair, I have to use shampoo with conditioner, not separate as it is all I can do to get through one process lol.
I did read about some of you mentioning biosilk and since that does not have to be rinsed out, I might try it. I really am not being lazy........well not too much anyway lol.

but, we have to motivate ourselves and take really good care of our hair since some of us don't cut it we got to use conditioners and leave in conditioners and soft silky smooth oils to keep it looking shiny and pretty...it can be a challenge however, one thing I don't want to do is walk through the mall and I myself look like something the cat dragged in...and all the worldly women walking by and having their hair set that should not be so, we apostolic women should take care of ourselves and remember that our hair is our glory so, we should take good care of it and do "our best" to keep it healthy. I understand we are not perfect and there is nothing wrong with having times where its a blah..blah..bad hair day...lol...we are human and we definitely aren't perfect...Lord knows I have those days!..lol..

Everyone---------------
Ditch the Pantene!!!! Renewal 5 Shamp and Condi., spray with Thermasilk Detangler, comb out with a comb for perms, put on some Biosilk and you are good to go. If you want to, finish with Spray Gloss on your hairbrush, NOT DIRECTLY ON YOUR HAIR. You will have bootiful hair.

*************
I have come to the personal conclusion that I will not use hot sticks on my hair unless absolutely necessary. If my hair is my glory, why do I want to burn it off with hot sticks or perms? I found some curlers that work the same and they are not uncomfortable to sleep in. They are called Sassy Curlers, available on the web. You also get a password to their hairdo section. Of course with my hair, I am required to use almost 3 sets of Sassy's (or any curler) so a braid wrapped around, a pouf, and a curling iron will do for me most of the time. And if you braid it to 6 inches from the bottom, you can still get a lot of nice curl with an iron.
A book, I don't know about that. There are some books at PPH. However, the photos are in black and white so you cannot see them well at all. There are MANY sisters at my church with BEAUTIFUL do's. I hear that they did have a clinic a few years ago. It would be great if they would do it again.
Conditioners: I don't know about now, since these products have become marketable for humans. However, Mane and Tail Conditioner worked well when I used to buy it from the feed store or they also have there product called Hoofmaker. I use that on my nails but have used it on my hair. Still now, before I go to a salon, I would rather go to the feed store.

Hey I think you should get some oil for your hair....start out like saturating your hair in jajoba or olive oil and let it sit for an hour and do that like once a week and then when you are going to heat style it and put it up you can just put a little of oil on your hans and rub them together and then rub them through your hair before you heat style it....it won't look all oily it will look shiny and the heat from the styling will help the oils to go deeper into each strand.....and if you can't heat style it that often do what I do and recycle your curls by sleeping on your style and taking it down then putting it back up the next day.....works like a charm!

I hope this doesn't cause hurt feelings, but i did some extensive searching on that longhair.org site and i hate to say it but i think it was mostly a long hair fetish site.:wah:
How gross that the world takes something that God finds beautiful and shows our submission and the world can turn it into a sexually perversion.
If you are going to search this site i recommed going only to the link that deals with styling and hair care the rest can lead you into some very weird places.
Funny that most of the photos I saw all the women had their clothes on or they were entirely covered by thier hair. Most all of them were modest but their purpose was still to congure up sexual excitement.:grumble: :realmad:
Even in our desire to follow God we have to still be careful of weirdos.:ninja:
Here's to hoping we all find anwsers to all our hair woes in the coming year.

immodest dressed anybody...in just hearing that description made my stomach turn...you see I don't like to put anything in my brain like that website much less hear about it...it sounds disgusting..I'm sorry but, that is exactly how that web site sounds..why would any apostolic women ever want to access a website with that type of description no, i would never go there...
Anyways, ddc...that is a good idea...I normally place my hair in a typical quick and easy to do bun...lol...really...I call the bun on the go... with my schedule sometimes don't have time for the hair..however, my girls do use hot sticks and do not curl their hair every day they place their hair in very conservative buns that look really neat without curling it..but, of course when they want to have curls they will wear hot sticks and their hair is in great condition..now if a women would wear hot sticks every day of course it would damage the hair eventually you have to do all things in moderation but, so would a curling iron...what matters is that we all do "our best" to take care of our hair keep it healthy and feel good about ourselves. Our self esteem is very important and just because we are apostolic never means we should look a mess...lol...lol...lol...as a matter of fact we should look our best! But, ask youself is that not the one of the hardest chores?...lol..lol...somedays I just want to have the bad hair day honey, you understand...lol..lol..:icon_laug I never said I was going to look my best everyday when you married me :icon_laug be happy with what you got :icon_laug cause you sure ain't going anywhere :icon_laug

My daughter said that really worked for them.I started putting olive oil on their hair and wrapping it with saran for an hour or so.I even bought large cans of crisco. You have to wash it out with dawn though. And it strips all the old junk off the hair shaft like spray, gels etc.I have heard that this really takes the brassiness out of blonde or gray hair.Anyway it worked wonderful.Kinda messy but cheapl.lv sis.c

tufluv, you had mentioned earlier on in this posting that you had stopped coloring your hair.... I am just curious, and you dont have to answer, but what was the conviction on that? I have been covering the gray for about a year now, and have been under a bit of conviction about it (I am not a new apstolic either) so, I was just wondering what your take is on this. I am trying to "gracefully" go gray, as no one at our present church "knows" that I was ever gray in the first place. I do have some extremely gray places (I am a redhead) and some "dirty" looking gray which I detest....
also, have you ever tried Infusium?(walmart) It has several levels of hair products, from shampoo to conditioner, gel and all.... and when I was perming my hair I used it regularly, I have started using it again, since the hair color really dries out hair... Also, I have been loosing handfulls of hair in the past year - hormones? My once extremely thick corse hair is thinning, and scarring me to death! :icon_craz

I'm not Tuffie, but I'll answer....:D ... first off, aside from the spiritual questions, it's a colossal nuisance. I lightened my hair when I was out of church -- trying to recapture that blonde of my youth!! What a botheration always touching up those roots.
Secondly, I think it's buying into Hollywood's notion of what is or isn't beautiful to deny the majesty of the "hoary" head....Proverbs 16:31 says it is a "crown of glory".
Thirdly, my GLORY is God-given and therefore 'divine' because it comes from Him -- thick, thin, curly, straight, rich in color or gray as an old mule! My handsome, but bald husband would tell you appreciate whatever you've got -- cause you've still got it! :yeah:
That's all.
Now we'll wait and see what Tuf says.

I don't color my hair. One of the reasons being if I let it happen naturally then I will be used to it and it will come on slowly. If I color it and it goes gray in the meantime then I am stuck going from black hair to grey hair in a matter of weeks and I doubt I would be able to stand that.Who ever said women needed to color their hair anyway? I have two dramatic streaks.... right at the temple on each side.
To tell the truth, it really is a bother to color it. I have weaned myself down to just touching up the top roots a tad... and I am trying to live with that dramatic streak as you call it..... It is now about 2 inches long.... I think going gray over time is fine, but to wake up and realize you have gone gray,,,, it got scarryyyyy...... (I think I went 50% or more gray in less than 2 months...)
And ya know, I "ran across" that proverb about the gray being a crown of glory, and that is what really got me thinking.... But, I am like I said, trying to be a bit graceful about it. Ya know, sister cooper, you are right about that shock thing...and what would a redhead use to help "mousey" areas? henna?

however they are spaced out but, they seem to be more coarse so when I do my hair I kind of have to spray them down or tuck them in one or the other. I don't mind going gray because I know that is part of the aging process however, I don't feel so comfortable when I'm talking to people and they are staring at my few gray hairs and I see their eyes forcused on a couple of gray hairs on my head. Graying to me is just part of the aging process but, I bet its really hard when it is centered at the roots however, of course I would not dye my hair that would probably only make it worse in the long run and cause me to have "thinning hair" because of all those chemicals in the dye. We need to be women of God that are proud of who we are even with our grays..lol....:ninja:

Be forwarned there are some proponets of trimming your hair, but I did find one article that said that all cutting and trimming did for your hair was make it short. Wow just what we've been saying forever.
BTW I have terrible psorasis does anyone have a sure fire method of really treating it? I use a perscription shampoo now but it is expensive and not very effective. I use selsan blue on my knees and feet to treat them sometimes and it helps those areas but doesn't seem to help my head much. I'm sooo wierd!
I seem to be thinning alot and I think its due to my psorasis and my health. DOes anyone know if high blood pressure or medications used to treat that will cause hair loss?
And I would like all you ladies to pray for me too. I'm considering weight loss surgery and one of the side affects to rapid weight loss is hair loss. It does grow back in, but what a drag. (Get your body fit and lose you hair.)

But some people have gotten help from "malaeluca oil" -- a tea-tree oil. It doesn't smell good, but if it works, that's a small price to pay.
I seem to be thinning alot and I think its due to my psorasis and my health. DOes anyone know if high blood pressure or medications used to treat that will cause hair loss? I'm not sure about that, but aging reduces it dramatically. Most women between 35 and 50 will experience considerable loss. I'm 42 and probably have 50% of the hair I had 15 years ago.
And I would like all you ladies to pray for me too. I'm considering weight loss surgery and one of the side affects to rapid weight loss is hair loss. It does grow back in, but what a drag. (Get your body fit and lose you hair.)
This was a BIG RED FLAG for me a few years ago when I was considering weight loss surgery. I've talked to several women who've had it done -- some are 10 years post op and still have extremely thin hair. Like the aforementioned aging -- I think that factors in. The women who had the surgery in their 20s seem to get a more "normal" head of hair back. But the older you are, the less you regain.
Try Weight Watchers and prayer instead. :)

I had WLS (RNY) almost five years ago. My hair almost touches the back of my knees today. Between four months and six months after surgery, I had hair loss. But I noticed that short hairs were popping up as fast as my hair was growing. No one noticed but me. I upped my protein intake and hair loss soon subsided. This is a natural side effect of WLS because the body is still going through shock.

Sorry I am just now today seeing this post from several days back, forgive me.
Uuhhmm..about not coloring my hair any more?
Several factors, one being that I got so-o sick of doing that..and it doesn't last all that long..$$ down the drain, ya know..
PLUS..the spiritual (?) connection is that it was not natural...I felt like I was just fighting against GOD..HE made me a certain way, with certain timings for various events in my life...whether I was following HIM or not all those years, I had wasted much of my good health..and to try to make myself something that I was not meant to be at that time...I decided it was time to just gracefully accept this inevitable graying..most of my family grays early.
Coloring chemicals also had dried out my hair terribly...it looked ugly..several layers of different colors..as the gray faded out..
BTW, I have tried the Infusium products..especially the leave-in conditioner..
It used to work years back...but now..NOTHING helps this dry ends..my mom keeps telling me to cut them off (she'd love that)...and normally, I might have...but I have the conviction to not cut my hair, EVER..period., its my glory, gray and all. I use shampoo/conditioner for gray hair., and its shiny!
I have lost tons of hair...its thinning out unfortuneatly...and it could be different reasons., although its so-o frizzy that it still looks like lots of hair.
They say "stress" is a major factor for hair loss, and I have to admit I've been under much stress..all my life, actually....lots of it self-induced..I've played Supermom for so long, even now....AND then there's hormones...my lack of them due to hysterectomy 7yrs ago., doc had said not to take hormone replacements any more.
Then there's all those med's for high blood pressure..I'm sure they may have something to do with the drying out of my hair.

I have found a good cure for "tangles" After dealing with my tangles, and daughters tangles. I got fed up, and tried ALOT of things. What works best with us is this:
Before you go to bed, brush your hair really good. then braid it. In the morning all you do is unbraid, brush, and style! It works many wonders. My hair is very long, and it is the thing that works with me.

Add olive oil to your diet also eggs if you haven't eaten enough protein.
People want to apply these to the scalp which is not bad but if you put
them in the diet you will also see results.lv sis.c

Just a tip...I don't do this all the time, but every once in a while I will put about a cup and a half of vinegar in a tall glass and mix in a couple Tbsp. of baking soda. Shampoo your and while the shampoo is still in mix that in and massage it into your hair. It makes it really squeaky clean, soft, and shiny! I have heard tell of people mixing up an egg and putting that in their hair...personally I couldn't:p

The vinegar and soda strip the soap residue from your hair. That is why it is so squeaky clean.

Okay, lets see if this will work and then I will tell you how to do it.
Okay, Hope you can see this. You put your hair in a ponytail like you are going to braid it. Instead of braiding it into one braid, take each section and braid those so you have 3 braids at the back of your head. When you have the 3 braids at that back of your head, braid those 3 braids together and you will have a wide flat braid. Do the cinnabun swirl with it loosely and you will have a cool looking bun.

Hi sis. Pam: I do not pray for my own hair, because a long time ago it stopped at midback, and refuses to grow longer, no matter what I do, even though my husband and I would have liked it to be much longer.
I think this is a sign from the Lord that I ought to worship Him in other ways. Therefore, I follow His wishes and no longer pray for longer hair.
Nevertheless, I thought it would bring me closer to the Lord if I could pray for any other lady who wants their hair to grow longer and stronger, and be closer to Him that way. Let me know, and I will pray for you.

My hair also just goes to mid-back....when I first started growing our my hair I thought it would surely go the floor becuase I grew so fast...but it just stopped.

God bless

Sis. Phylils... Just a little encouragement... the bible talks about UNCUT hair... not long hair so to speak. There are many women I know in apostolic churches that have been in for a LONG time and only have hair barely past the shoulders... or mid back. Mine seems to have stopped about the bottom of my "sweet by and by" so far. So just remember, uncut hair in the eyes of God is the godly thing... not LONG hair, at least not long according to society. I believe if you do it God's way, it's beautiful and holy no matter what the length! God bless!!

Very well said. I was also thinking that long hair also has an influence on how we present ourselves to the world. The world does not really pay much attention to uncut hair that is mid-back or waist-length, because such hair length is quite common everywhere. But when we get to the extremely long uncut hair, (say to the knees or ankles), then the world does react. Men in particular will say, "oh wow, look at that!". And, (unless they are Apostolic men), this does not mean "oh wow, how pleasing this uncut hair must be to the Lord", it is the "oh wow!" also said when they see a woman in a sexy revealing dress. So it is important to realize that sometimes unusually long hair draws the attention of the world in a way we might not necessarily want... Some will disagree and think I exaggerate, but I think it is something to be concerned about.
God bless you all, sis. Maria

So do you propose those with extremly long hair wear it up?I'm not sure if you were asking if they SHOULD wear it up, sister. I think most women with hair that long do, that I have seen, just because of the ease of it. Of course I am currently at a church that teaches that ALL women should wear thier hair up at ALL times other than being at home. My home church does not teach that however. But I will say this. At our big confrerence every year in California, there have been pleanty of time that I have seen (youth girls mostly) wear their hair all curled and down, and it's beautiful. However, thier is definately a spirit about them. The same spirit the sister previous was talking about. Of... Look at how long my hair is... Look how I've done it. Almost lustful I suppose you would say. However, that's a spiritual flaw, not a flaw just because her hair is down. I've seen pleanty of women that wear it down without that spirit. I'm just saying that no matter the length, when it's worn down by certain individuals, the spirit may not come from onlookers... but the wearer herself! So I suppose if one were immature spiritually that way.... yes you should wear it up.
As far as just having it to the length that some may comment. I can't really say they should wear it up just because it's extremly long. Only because that was never taught to me, other than where I am now. And I don't agree with what I've been taught about it, but of course I line up, without a problem. I sometimes feel... to what length do we go so others don't gawk? To some, a women with no make up is so attractive.... to others annkles... do we cover our ankles now? I'm only saying I think no matter what we do, worldly men will find something to find attractive about us, and ignorantly express it. LOL But, no, of course we do not need to do things to help it along. I don't know. I guess if one really felt convicted becuse of attention you get because of your hair.. yes... put it up.

The younger ladies I believe that wear it down and do it all up are in searching for the thing they are trying to attract most....a husband who is in church. So I don't fault them.I do think that putting an effort into looking their best should be encouraged.
I have a daughter who has extremely long hair. When we are in public its mostly the women who flock to us.They want to touch it.Some feel they could never take care of such long hair. But its easy since you get it a half inch or so at a time. But regardless it usually opens doors for questions and we
always get around to the reason we are doing it which is of course to honor the Lord Jesus Christ.lv sis.c

Well there definately is nothing wrong with wanting to look nice!! But it should be to represent God first, not to look good for a boy! Now honestly.... I don't know many younger girls that are mature enough spiritually to think that way at a young age. I'm not sure that I would have if I were in the church at a young age. The thing that makes me the maddest is when I see a girl who wont' shout because her outifit is too nice, or her hair is all done up! I've seen it PLEANTY OF times!! It just angers my spirit!! Makes me want to run over there and pull out all the pins, shake their hair... and say, Now miss thang... God can move on you, it's ok...LOL. And don't get me wrong... I've seen this with girls with thier hair up or down.
And I agree with what your saying. All I'm saying is... no matter what the reason.. if the wrong spirit comes with it, it's wrong. End of story. But again, I say... if that's the case in some people, it's a problem with the spirit, not really the hair do. Your hair is to glorify God, not men (or boys! hehe)

God bless you, sisters C. and Mitchelle, for your very thoughtful and helpful answers. I was not saying that extremely long hair should always be worn up. It is true that it sometimes provides opportunities to witness and testify because of the attention one gets when it so down. One should just be careful... It is also true that it will attract boys. It is then important for the young lady to be able to distinguish between the boys who like the hair and only the hair, and the boys who are attracted to the whole person, and as sis. Mitchelle points out, that is not always easy for a young girl. Thank you again, your sis., Maria.

When they're going to an A-Y-C-E buffet, YES!!!
:jk: <---but only a little.
Seriously, tho'. If I wore mine down on a daily basis, it wouldn't be as long as it is. Mine is fine and straight and I have a lot of breakage just from flipping it here and there. Plus, it's a distraction and a frustration when it's down -- always in my way. I've worn mine up 95% of the time (when it wasn't cut short! :( ) since I was in Junior High.

Just a tho't....there is a precious lady in my church who wears hers down most of the time. I've only seen it up a couple of times since I've been going there -- it is amazing how different she looks with it up. She's pretty anyhow, but just strikingly beautiful with it up.
Last time I complimented her on it I threw in "You should wear it like that all the time."
She said that her husband likes it down, so she only puts it up when he's away on business. That sort of shocked me. I respect her for being submissive in that way, and I promptly thanked my husband for not having a strong preference one way or the other. My "chrome dome" hubby said, "Nope, he's just so happy SOMEONE has hair", it doesn't matter how I wear it. And he added that maybe if her husband's hair wasn't as thick as it is, he might not be so concerned with it, either! :yeah:
I was just curious if anyone else's husband has a strong say in how they wear their hair?

My hubby doesn't care much how I wear it. He compliments me when it looks nice. But I think he is very thankful since I bought a hair piece of curls. My plain bun in the back was my complaint and curling my ends made me nuts. It got damaged and unhealthy, not to mention that is lost its curl soon after it was put in.
I complained alot and prayed alot about my hair. It really got to me about how I looked. I didn't feel feminine and I always felt ugly when I was out with him. But now I make my bun (very quickly) and on goes my curls and "I feel pretty, Oh so pretty." :icon_laug :D

Haha, I think that's one can of worms, I won't partake of! ;-) My husband is so kind. I have to admit, I tend to be lazy with doing my hair. :-( However, my husband has never said a word about it. I have just recently started trying to be better at making myself look nicer, even if only for him at home. But right after that I found out I was pregnant with my second child. My first is 17 months. And I was VERY sick for the first trimester. But, now that the sickness has passes, I suppose I should get back to my good deed for my husband! LOL

03-02-2005, 03:22 PM
Dorie's guilty too! I got the idea of the curls once when a friend and I ventured into a wig shop that specialized in cancer patients.
Well, I was out of town at the time, so when I got back to my hotel room, I called my pastor. The pastor wasn't keen of the idea because of "the can of worms it could create", but when I explained to him why, he said to go back and get it. He did ask that I not wear it to church because it might offend.
I can get my hair looking great in about ummm five minutes. I've received lots of compliments and even those that have seen me from church never knew where my curls came from. (These good folks saw me outside of church, so no, I did not disobey my pastor and wear them to church anyway). My daughter keeps telling me that you can't tell that they are not really mine.
So why did I make this decision? Well, my hair comes to about mid thigh, but the last foot or so is very thin. Curls just would not make. You would have to curl the last foot and half of my hair to get a curl. The ends of my hair might make two. Now alot of women perm their hair and after a time it breaks and is a lot thicker at the bottom. I've never desired having a perm. My curls work so much better.
I've worn my curls for almost five years and no one knows that they aren't really my curls. Except you guys. BTW, my hair is dark brown with a little greying on the sides.

I was just brought up in a church where it is taught against to have any fake hair at all, except in the event you lose it from cancer. Nor do we perm our hair. We've always been taught to make due with what God has given us. And I've never seen anyone that's had a problem finding beautiful godly hairstyles with the type of hair they have. And there are many with hair much longer with the same problem of being thin and those with still short thin hair, etc. Not passing a judgement... just explaining my particular situation. I wouldn't feel comfortable with it.

Did your church give you scripture for that. Do you curl your hair? Do you use hairspray? Do you use hairpins, bands, or barettes? Those are all unnatural (as in not God given) ways to put your hair up.

Intresting, my mom reads the ante-nicean fathers writings. (If you don't know what they are they are writings from the church fathers before the council of Nicea when they cemented the doctrine of the Trinity) Not only do these writings back the oneness theology but they also taught against the teaching of women wearing hair pieces. They said if the ladies had hands laid on them and were blessed, who would the blessing go to? the lady it was intended for, or the person whose hair she was wearing?
:lame: i guess no century is excluded from making lame arguements!:D
I trust my God a little better than that. I think He would know where to send the blessing to!:icon_laug :icon_laug
And since I bought synthetic hair I felt fine about it. I know no one gave up their hair for me to look nice. I did ask my pastor's wife about it and she said that it was beautiful and thinks it's great.
I will also tell you that I have no bones about showing off that it is not real hair. I will take it off in front of people to adjust it if it is called for. And I take the laughs good naturedly.
If my pastor would ask me not to wear it I could probably go back to the old way. Now would I grumble about my hair? you bet! Just like I did before, so I guess there would be nothing different about it!:D
But I do really like it and I feel so much better with it.

Sorry, didn't answer your question.... Yes, we use very modest items to put our hair up. But fake hair is not for the use of putting it up... it's to add to your hair as adornment as we believe. Sorta like make up does to your face... or dying your hair a different color. And again, we use VERY modest pins and such in our hair, usually unseen. But again, I am never offended by another's standard unless it's revealing in a lustful way, which yours would not be. :-)

LOL) Is the scripture that talks about not adorning your hair. Which would go back to more the reason behind it. One with cancer and no hair, is not doing it for adornment. But in my PERSONAL conviction, just for the sake of time and curls and feelings of attractiveness, it's adornment. Sorta like fake nails used to make me feel better about myself because I have very thin nails that don't grow well or look very feminine :-(. (I HATE that! LOL) And that was a real issue with me for some reason in the world!
But allow me to say this... If I didn't already have the teaching and conviction of it, I sure would do it!!!! As I said... I'm LAZY with my hair.. LOL. And again, please don't take this as judgement or me thinking.. OH MY GOODNESS... SHE WEARS THAT??? I know in an e-mail, posting, etc... it can be hard to judge how one is coming across. I only got this far into it because you asked...that's all. But I still got LUV for ya!! ;-)

Good for you!! I was speaking for myself. I could and have done my hair in the curls, but it took an extremely long time and I have to be at work by 7:00.
My intent was not to offend. Guess I should have just kept it to myself.
Did your church give you scripture for that. Do you curl your hair? Do you use hairspray? Do you use hairpins, bands, or barettes? Those are all unnatural (as in not God given) ways to put your hair up.Fake hair, fake nails, fake tan...so- let's do it ALL...fake eyelashes, fake eyeliner, fake color on our cheeks. Where do we draw the line? Do we justify something because it's what WE want???? Something to think about...

There is no such scripture speaking against adornment of the hair. The Bible DOES say women shouldn't be known by their outward adornment, but in no way says a woman cannot put anything in her hair to adorn it. However, if your point is that it shouldn't take away from God, I agree. Nothing we wear or do should take away from God.

Oh man! There I go being human again!!! Pffft! Sorry, you're right... it speaks of the outward adroning ~ 1 Peter 3:3 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=67&chapter=3&verse=3&version=9&context=verse)
Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
Well I guess you could say that our hair is on the outside...sooooo, guess that would be outward adorning also. And the plaiting of the hair referred to the putting ribbon and such in thier hair to decorate (or adorn) it. So I guess it kinda does say it.
And my point had nothing to do with not taking away from God, although we shouldn't do that either. My point was not adding any fake substance to ourselves for the purpose of vanity or decoration to simply make up for time or our personal feeling of ourselves of attractiveness. But thanks for that correction!!! The pregnant brain isn't much good, I tell ya!!:icon_craz

This is my opinion so take it with a grain of salt.I don't care of someone has a hair piece or capped teeth or does tanning or does their nails. If it looks natural than its modest and good hygiene. We can use face cleansers and lotions etc without painting our faces. We can use products without going too far.Its called having a balance. For instance.I like clear lip gloss.I usually get the one with vitamen E.I don't have to wear red.I just go over to where its sold and buy clear. No problem.I can go to the nail salon and get a nice manicure and pedicure without walking out with long red talons.I have the Holy Ghost and I have a sense of balance.I can go to the gym and work out and wear modest apparral and do some good things for myself and not whack out because I have a sense of balance.
The key is to be temperate in all things. We don't have to look like old mamas(even though we are)but can be feminine and feel good about our reflections.
Also I think we can diet and not go overboard.I seem to hear alot of that in pentecostal circles.Just like we can eat out and not be three hundred pounds.
We need to get a sense of balance and self discipline and sell out to Jesus.

So now that I've opened the can of worms, anyone else admit to wearing a hair piece or have comments about them?
I recently bought one -- just happened to find one that is a nearly perfect match for my hair.
My teen daughter whined, "No Mom! Don't wear a weave!" LOL
But its sure quick and easy. Dresses up my little Olive Oyl twist quite prettily.

You forgot to highlight the last part of the verse you quoted, so I'll repeat it here:
or of putting on of apparel;
Using your pregnant logic (:)) here, since apparrel is worn on the outside......well, it's outward adornment, is it not?
Put the previous two verses with the third one and you will see that Paul wasn't speaking against outward adornment, but that women should be known by the hidden man of their hearts, and of a meek and quiet spirit. IOW, it's not our outsides that should speak for us, but out insides. I certainly don't believe that Paul was telling women they can't wear things in their hair, can't wear gold, and not to wear clothing, do you?
You can't pick and choose what you want that verse to say. Many people do it to prove what they've been taught. Don't fall into that trap. If you have a personal conviction, you better obey it. But don't use scripture for your justification.....you don't need it for personal convictions, sister.

Look. To be pleasing to God is everyone's goal. I like to please the Lord. I wear very modest apparel and modest hairstyle. I don't stand out in a flashy, worldly way by no stretch of the imagination. If there is something wrong with my little curls, then my pastor would have told me so and above that, the Holy Ghost would have told me so. If there is something wrong with my little curls, then take away the wearing of nylons, a little perfume, deodorant, lotions to make my skin soft, belts (unless to hold your pants up), watches, anything but plain old shoes, collars aren't necessary at all, etc., blah, blah, blah... these could all be considered adornment.
You can make your way so straight that no one can live it because it may not be of God. God is not a hard taskmaster. I don't mind being plain. I don't mind people staring at me cause I don't look like everyone else. I just want to please Him - not man.

Think I'll go get me a nip and tuck, some implants, frost my hair and get me some fake nails... long as it's all modest and stuff. Why, how much better I'll feel about myslef rather than being content with the beauty God blessed me with. After all, who has time to learn to make themselves look nice anymore without all that. I don't see anything wrong with hair pieces. It takes me a long time to curl my hair, not to mention damaging. Seems like it could save alot of time and damage to my hair. I personally wouldn't consider it adornment, especially if the hair piece is in a style that you normally would do in your hair.
I tried some hair pieces once and couldn't get them to work. Very frustrating. It was a 3in claw clip with curly hair. When I got my hair into a bun the clip wouldn't fit. The bun was too big for the clip. My hair is only to the middle of my back (so far) so it is not like it is super long. How do those that wear hair pieces get them to work with your long hair?

My piece is in a claw clip too. I make my bun low on the head. almost nape of the neck. I put the claw just above it and sort of on it too.
I guess the bottom of the claw clip is on the top part of the bun and the top part of the claw is in my slicked back hair. I like to wear it kinda high like the style is where I live. Then I fluff it out to hide any claw. I can use chopsticks or not or whatever. Usually I don't use anything else.
To sister be ye seperate, Sis, I don't know if anyone seeking the truth about God would be looking for Him on a hair thing thread, but if they did, most of us who have been here a while would notice they are new and point out where to find out truth about who He is.
You said in an earlier post you were not offended and I hope you still aren't but you are beginning to sound as if you are.:(
We do hold to holiness on this Cafe. Just ask John Atkinson if you don't believe that. Sis Cooper too. They are our moderators and boy they jump in and nail it down for us if it needs to be done. :D
I have been in many differnt churches in a few differnt states because of moving around. I would think that in a military family you will either understand that or will experience it in your lifetime. People hold to many different teachings about side issues. Try to respect it and them while always loving your own.
I had a TV until recently I felt conviction about it and told my husband I was not strong enough to battle controlling it myself. He helped me to get rid of it. Its still in our house but not operational. I have the internet in my house and I have learned to help protect my husband from thing he is not strong enough to battle himself.
We are all here to help each other. We are to study for ourselves to rightly divide the word. But we will all be in heaven together. If we can't get along down here what will Jesus do with us in heaven? :goof:
Remember an open forum lets alot of ideas out. It can be difficult to wade through soemtimes. But you will manage. But if it feels like we are taking what you meant as a joke out of context then please use soem more emotioncons and forgive us. :spin: it happens alot in cyberspace.

If y'all don't mind, I thought I'd move away from the discussion of hairpieces and give an example of a case where not showing one's hair would have been a good idea. I have a friend who was teaching near Saudi-Arabia on the Persian Gulf. She would wear her hair below the waist and down while teaching her students. She noticed that it made her male students visibly uncomfortable. Nevertheless, she refused to wear a headscarf because: "I am a Christian". She was afraid that if she would, she might be mistaken for a Moslem, but that was unlikely, since she had been hired to teach there by a Christian organization. My friend thought it was ridiculous that someone would be made uncomfortable by her hair. She was not being reasonable. It so happens that in Moslem culture, hair is considered more erotic than it is in the US. One has to respect those differences.
That does not mean that Moslem culture has solved the hair question. Far from it. Some of the devout Moslem women I have known wear a headscarf all the time, some only to go to the mosque to pray. In South India, every woman wears her hair down her back in one big braid, often down to the waist, even the Moslem women. So you often see a Moslem woman recognizable by a very modest black headscarf, but the braid is in full view on her back, below the scarf! Other Moslem women wear headscarfs, but you can see there is a thick coil of hair underneath. Only their husbands get to see it, I guess...
So, in other cultures (and religions) the hair question is important too, and I am sure they are having discussions about it, very similar to the ones we are having here! Trying to put things in a somewhat wider perspective...

Another thought on hair...
I heard of an apostolic woman with long, uncut hair who was on a business trip to N.O. She went to her hotel room thinking she would stay in for the evening. She showered and washed her hair -- then decided to go out and pick up some food to eat in her room.
She didn't bother putting her towelled dry hair up, but went with it down. While walking on the streets of the French Quarter she sensed someone was watching her and following her. She turned to see a woman who appeared to be one of the fortune tellers from the Square -- the woman was frozen just staring at the sister.
Feeling uncomfortable she continued on, but the woman stopped her and said, "Do you have any idea the power you have on your head?"
Completely taken aback the sister said something about the scripture saying we have the power of angels...
The woman interrupted and said, "No, I don't think you realize, you have GREAT power on your head", then she turned and walked away.
Pychic, sorceress, whatever the woman was, it was apparent by the charms and amulets she wore what master she served, but even the devil recognizes the power of God's gift of glory.

Sis. Pam, thank you for mentioning the relationship between the devil and the power of beauty, something I have been thinking about. The devil, by nature imperfect, cannot achieve anything perfect, therefore there is no such thing as perfect ugliness or perfect evil... Praise the Lord, only God is capable of perfection: perfect Good and perfect Beauty, and the Good and Beauty that is with us comes from Him alone. It is interesting that even people with the most ungodly beliefs, such as presumably the woman you refer to, are attracted to beauty, not ugliness, not realizing where beauty comes from. As you know, I am interested in long denim skirts, and I have known about witches who also liked long denim skirts. Again, those people were not realizing where beauty and modesty comes from. Unfortunately, ungodly people tend to worship the power of beauty for the sake of the power of beauty, worship the created instead of the Creator, which is idolatry. Something we all have to watch for, sometimes, because it is all too human to admire the glory of beautiful hair, without remembering whose gift it is.
God bless you,
Sis. Maria

I've had long hair my whole life. I've trimmed a few dead ends of at times, but it's never been "cut". I've never understood the verse that talks about a women's hair "giving her power"???
Can someone explain that to me? I would love to understand what it means.
I have to admit that at times, I hate my hair. It's thin, and the ends break off. But, I've never really known how to take care of it. Thanks to this thread, I'm going to try to do better. I think I could be a better steward of the hair God has given me.
I've noticed that the ladies where I attend church now really take care of their hair. Most of them fix it really nice for church. It's made me want to look better too. Mainly there is an ellegance about them when they take care of their appearance.
My husband does not attend church, but he really doesn't care one way or another about my hair. At times, he's complained about cleaning the drains out and finding hair everywhere, but that's about it.
I usually wear it twisted up with a scrunchy. Not real attractive, I'm sure, but with two kids and one on the way, it's all I have time for most days.

Glad to be back to the women's discussions. It was getting time for me to get out of discussions about popes and Catholics!!!
Here is a hair care question. My hair is very thin on top. At this rate, I will be bald before my husband is! The latest my doctor prescribed for me is Rogaine, the famous thing that helps you regrow hair. Has anyone had experiences with this?
She also prescribed some pills called Spironolactone, which is supposed to be good for lots of things including your hair and your skin. It is also supposed to be good as a diuretic and against hypertension. But I don't find much on the internet about this being good for hair growth. Does anyone else know about Spironolactone being good for one's hair?
