I have met and I am about to meet some online friends! I think its awesome to do this. I have met so many wonderful people. Some believe this is dangerous, to meet strangers. I believe in being careful but I believe we can be paranoid as well.

What you think?

In the "world", where many of us came from, and that some may still "visit" ...lol...on occasion, there are radical perceptions of fame and fortune.
Certain people 'of the world' that are considered 'celebrities' to much of the public, often invoke an almost "worshipful" response from their fans..such 'excitement'!!
People almost fall over themselves in trying to merely 'touch' one such object of their idolization!
We, those of us whom have been enlightened and set free by the Creator of all things...have long given up former notions, attitudes, and responses to such celebrity-ism of worldly people much like our former selves, that have somehow been elevated to heights of public acclaim and adoration.
We ['saints'] in turn, now give such 'attention' and affections to our one and only GOD! Anyone else similarly associated with the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, invokes in me, at least, a feeling of 'excitement' for a chance to meet yet one more member of this most excellent family of GOD! We here, at the GNC, are somewhat 'celebrities' to each other! (I think)..
So-o, it IS good to be able to meet another 'saint' in person, after having become 'acquainted' online! Such 'excitement' , anticipation...and GLORY! The 'world' hasn't a clue to what this is like...they're missing out, in more ways than one. I am going to meet Joan in person very soon ..she does have pressing family matters to tend to first., this weekend. I've already met one member from here, not long ago, Bro.Ben (SeguidordeJesus) and it was so-o nice to finally 'see' and 'hear' the REAL person!

If those online friends are apostolic I see no problem as long as they are not the opposite sex and you are in a crowd. But honestly ladies people get on line and say things that are not honest.I would not do this unless it was church people who could give me a legitamate pastor.lv sis.c

I think it is cool. I have had friendships online with several people, and even a romantic relationship online. I have met in person though, one male and one female. All were Apostolic.

I plan to meet some more this summer, actually I am going on vacation with a few! ;) I can't wait! What a blast it is gonna be.

I would love to meet people all across this nation. Someday I plan to retire in a driving unit and visit all the friends I have met.

I met my husband online and he has yet to chop me up....

Oh, and one of the folks at our wedding was an online friend...

Two at the party my mom gave us were online friends....

Then there was another sister we met who went to First Pentecostal Church of New Orleans...

We've also met a couple of our online friends who go to the The Pentecostals of Alexandria...

We were going to meet up with a couple of other folks from online, but it fell through in both cases...

I think it's cool.... Just listen if the Lord gives you a warning -- that simple.

If it's so dangerous to meet strangers then none of us would ever meet anyone new....

MEETING ONLINE FRIENDS IS AWESOME!

Especially apostolics! Although, I must admit, I have met other online friends that are far from apostolic. All women of course. None of them have kidnapped me or anything. ;) But I also knew them for several years before meeting in person. Talked on the phone and such too besides chatting online.

One down, three to go! I just wish I had more time in the day than what I had on Saturday. Parting is such sweet sorrow, but we will see each other again! I really had a blast, and I didn't get cut up into pieces either, although I was threatened...with a shotgun! She just threatened to bring it, she didn't actually show it to me.....LOL!!

I am looking forward to the next one in about 16 days.

NOT everyone has the same luck..... If you trust the person enough and knows about the church they belong to and you are meeting them where other brethrens are, go for it. Otherwise, I would advise anyone to be very careful because there are lots of creeps that are lurking on-line. There are many predators that are acting as wolf in sheeps clothing.

I think that it is good to be careful, but, it is good to have friends that love God like you. I wish I had someone that I could hang out with and have coffee with in the am, I did when I lived in AL and IL. I am struggling here in WI. That's why I came back to the goodnewscafe. I get my spirits lifted. I don't feel alone down here. I understand that we are never alone, God is always with us. He is my best friend, I will always believe that. But, sometimes to have a friend down here to hug, (Godly, not worldly hug) is nice. Especially when you need prayer. Does that sound crazy? I miss my AL church family.

Leigh, I can so relate to your feelings of loneliness and need for relationship. I too live in a new part of the country - away from my church family in PA. They were the absolute best. I long to have relationship beyond "church fellowship". When I lived in PA we had home care/friendship groups. Everyone was assimilated into one of these groups as soon as possible.

I know that there is a church in WI pastored by Bro. Tamel. His church runs home care/friendship groups. You wouldn't happen to be going to that church (I know . . . Wisconsin is a big state)? If not, does your new church have home groups?

Currently, there are no home groups going on in the area where I now live unfortunately. We are hoping our current pastor will see the need to start them. Anyway, God bless as you keep trusting Jesus to meet your needs.

Searching my friend... I can't wait either!

I am one of the two friends she is going to meet.. ain't that cool??

Leigh, the GNC has been really helpful to me to ward off loneliness. Welcome back to the GNC.

Joan, I agree, home groups are wonderful way to meet friends on a more personal basis in a church that is larger. We had those in MI, I enjoyed the fellowship.

Sis Forever, where in MI? I have a sister that lives in MI. She goes to a church pastored by Bro. Sistrunk. Do you know who that is? Were you anywhere's near that? My sister lives in Monroe, but the church is somewhere north of that. I can't remember the name of the town. This pastor also pastors in Ann Arbor (I think that's the town).

Joan
07-14-2003, 09:52 AM
LadyRev, Where do you live in TN? Do you go to a UPC church? I live in TN too.

foreverblessed
07-15-2003, 04:44 AM
Joan,
The Sistrunks are in Ann Arbor and Clinton. I was thinking Ypsilanti but that is near there too. Ann Arbor is just West of Detroit area. I know Sis. Carla Sistrunk, she is Bro. Irving Baxters Oldest daughter, I think her husbands name is Scott. I was raised in East Indy area, and Baxter's are only an 45min away. I know Carla because their church used to be in our section, and I grew up attending camp, youth rally's and other youth functions with her and her sisters.

I was in Grand Blanc MI, which is a suburb South of Flint. I went to church though in Swartz Creek, which is a suburb West of Flint. Grand Blanc was about 45 min North of Detroit, on I75.

Joan:

I'm just outside of Memphis. Where about are you? I attend the Millington UPC.

Leigh:

I'm a Wisconsin native. My hometown is Shawano, about a 100 miles east of you. I miss Wisconsin! I am sure you will make friends there soon. :)

LadyRev, I was just at your church on Monday night. I live in Collierville and go to the church there. :-)

Joan,

~L~ Small world! I'm the drum player! ;) Next time, you will have to introduce yourself.

Joan
07-16-2003, 10:19 AM
Oh my word, you are the drummer? You are soooo good!!! Do you happen to teach drum? It is so neat to see you up there playing the drums.

Apostolic Kitty
07-16-2003, 10:25 AM
I bet she would stink at the drums in the natural. My guess is that there's some anointed drumming from her. :)

LadyRev
07-16-2003, 01:59 PM
LOLROTF! Leave it to Kitty to keep me humble! :D

Actually, the annointing definitely does make the difference. I have taught a few people to play but they all had some "natural" talent to start with. Since I never took lessons, I really don't feel like I do a very good job of teaching drums. But thank you for the compliment. ;) Now I want to know who YOU are!

Apostolic Kitty
07-16-2003, 02:07 PM
Anointing breaks yokes. Talent just sounds good.... It's better to be anointed than talented!

Apostolic Kitty

You know...you're not the first person who has made the remark that I keep them humble. LOL

I suppose that's a good thing??

One thing for sure....It'll be kinda hard to get (or keep) a swelled head with me around. lol

LadyRev
07-16-2003, 02:51 PM
LOL! I don't need the swelled head anyway. So yes, it is a good thing. Kitty the humbler! :D

So Lady Rev,
How about posting a picture of you playing the drums....I would love to see that. There is a sister from Apostolic Outreach UPC in
New Orleans who plays the drums for their choir. Also my friend Sister Velma Johnson pastors wife from Baldwin UPC plays the drums. She is awesome. In fact her life just goes drumming along for Jesus whether she is beating on a drum or following the beat of the different drummer Jesus Christ.lv sis.c

LadyRev,

I go to the Hunt's church. I've been to several district meetings. I'm tall, long hair, no make-up, no jewelry, and I was wearing a skirt the other night. hahahaha Just joking.

Actually, there is some big youth thing in our town where some churches are coming to pass out 10,000 tracts in one day coming up this Sat. Will you be there? There will be music and I know the musicians and I can ask if you can play a little (to stun all the men who think they've cornered the market on the instrument).
**wink**

So let me know. :-)

Well, I met another online friend tonight, and she is more wonderful in person, not that I would have thought different. I will see her again on Sunday, all day basically, and I'm so glad to have finally met her.

Two to go!! One of them in 3 weeks, and the other one in 4 weeks...I'm having a wonderful summer!!

Sis. Cooper:

Actually, I don't have a picture of myself on the drums. ~L~ Someone else at church does I am sure cause I've seen the cameraman running around. But I don't have one.

Joan:

I am not sure if I will be coming Sat. or not. I will find out more at youth service friday night. *S* As for the guys, most of them already know I play. ~L~

My how things have changed since my last post! LOL!

Actually, I came back to this thread again because someone reminded me that I FORGOT to mention meeting her. So, time to recap! :)

The first people I have met from the GNC (besides Faithchild who I met pre-GNC days), are Searching and Apostolic Lady. But it is the next person that I forgot to mention! I met UPC Lady not too long after meeting the others. And then I was able to slip away from work on short notice and had the privilege of meeting Foreverblessed and ThirdGeneration.

I love meeting online friends. Particularly apostolics! I plan on seeing these ladies again too! Some of them sooner than others. :yeah:

I agree with you Leigh and understand what it is not to have your familiar Christian friends to fellowship with, after living in a different country where there weren't Apostolic churches close by.
I think it is a good thing to have such means of meeting apostolics online and finding new friends. That's why I've joined this cafe to meet new brethren across the globe who believe in the same doctrine as myself.
