I love to study and teach the deeper things in the word.Christian living is good to teach and greater when applied but some things in the word of God are just so beautiful though we don't see them everyday. They are the special things, the deeper things.I think there is a real hunger in the children of God for the deeper things. It sometimes cause them to stray from the flock or pick up false doctrines due to a deep hunger. If all the
teacher teaches is Acts 2:38 and basic things then the longing is not
satisfied especially by those who feel a call to teach.Sometimes I long
for a round table discussion where things can be said without being judged or ideas can be thrown around. Not everyone is open to that. They feel you
should just put on your pentecostal good shoes and attend church and
prayer meeting and thats enough. Some feel whatever the pastor is teaching on Sunday morning is all you need along with you Daily Bread
bible reading chart.I cannot imagine that the Lord or Apostles did
only this.If so then Paul would not have had someone falling asleep and
out of windows.Jesus would not have had crowds following him all over the country side if all he taught were basics.lv sis.c

we are on the same page. sometimes i think the good teachers get overlooked like prophets without honor. i think it can be difficult to do unless that respect is understood from those at the round table, but then all things would be good. there is a hunger for sure. i like the discussion on faith right now.

it is true though that sunday morning you have 700 people, but then wednessday night when the best teaching is there only about 300 or less will come. but those 300 are indeed hungry & will eat all they can. The Teaching with application is where it is at, at least it has always been for me. Paradoxes work well for me also.

I love to get to gether with another saint and talk about the things of God. This is when the deeper things can come out. These times are few and far between for me because of the situation I am in. but oh, when I get those times I learn so much. I am able to ask questions that I have been pondering and trying to work out for weeks. sometime I get these answers through the preaching of the word on Sundays.
I love the Home Friendship groups we have here, expecially the one I go to:), cos we get into everyday things which help us to grow spiritually and to have a spiritual check up on ourselves too. Okay they aren't as deep as you are talking about but anything that makes you grow can be wonderful.
I know what you mean about a deep hunger for deeper things of God. Todays preaching was sooo good. Though I was signing for the Deaf, I was able to get a lot out of it.
I need to get with people who will talk about the Lord more, not sure how I can do that.:)

Yeah sometimes we are surface dwellers we don't like to get to the bottom of the Word. Most people dont want to really hear a message that gets to the bottom of the Word it makes them sleepy.

Sure it's always good to long to get into the deeper things of Christ. Apostle Paul even preached it -- (Heb. 6:1) “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God.”

But the questions remains are you getting deeper in the teachings of Christ or into err?

With everybody differing in beliefs about the gospel and doctrine of Christ (I’m speaking of among the Jesus Only, Apostolics, Pentecostals, etc…) about the rules and regulation of the Church, whose to say a roundtable discussion where things can be said without being judged or ideas can be thrown around that you by chance get truth? Or more likely, a well explained untruth?

1 Cor. 14:33 (kjv) “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”

Differences in the Gospel, Doctrine, and teachings of Christ I believe is simply err. The devil got in somewhere.

So though it’s good to go deeper in Christ, question is, are you?

I always wondered when I see the different beliefs on this forum which sort of mirrors all the differences in the Jesus Only, Apostolics, and Pentecostals religions, If a preacher can’t declare it like Paul in Galatians 1:8-9 and didn’t get it like Paul in Galatians 1:11-12 are you indeed gaining anything? Getting anywhere?

Would Jesus, if he came down here, be in agreement with your Church? And then the next Apostolic church? And then the next? All supposed to be the body of Christ but not all in agreement, not all walking by the same rule neither are they all following the same narrow path?

Don’t mean to digress, but just saying it’s good to go deeper in Christ but first we must be rooted and ground in the Faith and on the right Foundation.

1 Cor. 3:11 (kjv)“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

True we need to be rooted and grounded and have a firm & correct foundation in Truth. But I think in order to have that, we need to dig deeper into the Word. Simply taking someone to Acts 2:38 alone is not enough to build a foundation of truth. You have to take them to the other scriptures that back up and support what Peter taught.

I was always "told" that Jesus' name baptism, infilling of the Holy Ghost with evidence of tongues, and the Oneness of God were the foundations of Truth and I believed it until my teens. Then I began to question and wonder if all I'd been taught WAS really truth. How did I know the other denominations were not correct and we were wrong?

It took digging DEEPER in the Word of God and studying the scriptures. Now my foundation is sure. I know what I've been taught is Truth. I think we do a disservice to our congregations and young people when we don't have indepth studies to explain and show them where our beliefs come from.

Sis C,
I know what you mean about studying and teaching the deeper things of God. There are treasures hidden in the Word that we need to search for & some are right there on the surface glistenning the moment we open the Bible.

My first pentecostal pastor was Elder E.W.Reeves from Opelousas.
I cannot tell you how much deliverance I received from his teaching.
He is an awesome bible teacher.lv sis.c

I love how you worded that, it is so true that we can't just say "here is Acts 2:38, it's all you need" I love starting someone off with the oneness of God, showing them how diligently it was taught in the OT, and then showing them how He revealed Himself in human flesh in the NT through Jesus! Showing them the name, and then showing them how our salvation isn't just a new testement thing, but it how it was forshadowed waaaaay back in Genesis!!! My pastor just started having an adult sunday school class and that's exactly where he's starting, I'm lovin sittin there and hearing him unravel the word like a ball of yarn... sometimes I just get so excited when we get deep into the word it really is fun!

Wow! I was telling my brother that just a few hours ago, he whizzed by on his way back out of town..at least he is finally now, opening up a little, to receiving ANY talk of things spiritual, hallelujah!
YES we don't need priests or whatever anymore we have complete and free access to HIS WORD anytime anyplace and we can learn at our own pace, and/or as HIS spirit leads, but we MUST do our own research ourselves, to get the full impact that HE wants each individual to experience. ;)
